Democrats Unleashed Some 'Dubious Or Misleading Claims,' Fact Checkers Say
NPR ^ | September 5, 2012 | Mark Memmott

Just as they did during the Republican National Convention, independent fact checkers spent the first day of the Democratic National Convention listening for claims that don't add up — and found them.

FactCheck.org says it heard "a number of dubious or misleading claims" from the Democrats who spoke on stage Tuesday in Charlotte, N.C. Among the problems it found:

— "The keynote speaker and others claimed the Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, would raise taxes on the 'middle class.' He has promised he won't. Democrats base their claim on a study that doesn't necessarily lead to that conclusion."

— "The keynote speaker, San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, also said there have been 4.5 million 'new jobs' under Obama. The fact is the economy has regained only 4 million of the 4.3 million jobs lost since Obama took office."

— "A Democratic governor said Romney 'left his state 47th out of 50 in job growth.' Actually, Massachusetts went from 50th in job creation during Romney's first year to 28th in his final year."

— "Multiple speakers repeated a claim that the Ryan/Romney Medicare plan would cost seniors $6,400 a year. That's a figure that applied to Ryan's 2011 budget plan, but his current proposal (the one Romney embraces) is far more generous."

— "Rep. James Clyburn engaged in partisan myth-making when he said 'Democrats created Social Security' while Republicans 'cursed the darkness.' History records strong bipartisan support in both House and Senate for the measure President Roosevelt signed in 1935.

The Washington Post's The Fact Checker cites some of the same problems as FactCheck highlighted. And it points to this statement from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada: "We learned that he [Mitt Romney] pays ...."

The Fact Checker writes that:

....."

Oh, so now we like fact checkers??

Wasn't sure, because last week they were all liars and partisan hacks.

Wake up people - they ALL lie, D & R's alike with equal ferocity and equal malice. Character, revealed over time, is how to take the measeure of a man (or woman).

Thus our Boy King, the Kenyan Usurper, is a blatant communist that hates his country. And his challenger, Mittens, is a gun-grabbing, baby-killing, nanny stater.

Stock up on food and ammo is all I can say...

It’s hilarious that Clyburn would even want credit for an illegal, bankrupt Ponzi scheme.

Obviously NPR has good internal polling and is trying to cozy up to Romney so that he does not completely defund them.

Seriously! Never thought I'd read something like this on NPR. BO's numbers must be horrible. Maybe they better move his acceptance speech to a smaller venue.

Oh..right, they already did!

USA Today also ran this story. Surprising to see.

Really now... that’s a handy piece of information. Not that it means anything to those predisposed to lying and glomming onto lies.

'we' ? Well... 'we' do like facts, and we know facts from fiction. Fact checkers are merely a (questionable) source to be sorted through while finding the facts.

Wasn't sure, because last week they were all liars and partisan hacks.

Depends on the subject, from what I can tell. When it comes to politics, one can see a certain 'bias'.

What is important is to see that THE TIDE IS STARTING TO TURN, as the 'biased' fact-checkers start USING words like 'dubious' and 'misleading' in reference to a DEMOCRAT.

Notice they haven't got to the 'ABSOLUTE LIE' stage yet, but they won't keep paddling against this strong a current for very long.

Dubious? Michelle Obama’s speech was one big long lie. Both of them came from privileged and wealth, both of them got the best possible private school and Ivy league education. They have not suffered a single day in their lives.

On a thread overnight, I observed that while the two of them *struggled* [boo-hoo] to pay back their JD student loans...I believe it has been documented that they both were disbarred. Heh.
