Secret Service Investigating Purported Ransom of Mitt Romneys Tax Returns
Someone claims to have stolen years of Mitt Romneys tax returns from a Tennessee office of the financial firm PricewaterhouseCoopers, and the Secret Service is investigating what appears to be a ransom scheme.
The local Democratic and Republican parties in Williamson County, Tenn., where the PricewaterhouseCoopers office is located, both received packages, each containing a thumb drive and a letter outlining a competitive-bidding ransom scheme that appears designed to pit Republicans and Democrats against each other over the release of Romneys taxes.
The letters stated an intention to publish Romneys tax returns on Sept. 28, unless $1 million is deposited in a Bitcoin (Internet currency) account, according to Williamson County Democratic Party Chairman Peter Burr, who said both he and his Williamson County GOP counterpart received similar packages.
The Secret Service took the package from him after the local GOP contacted authorities, Burr said. The Secret Service confirmed to ABC News that it is investigating the ransom scheme.
The apparent hackers presented two options, Burr said. If somebody wanted to prevent the publication of these tax records, they needed to put a million dollars into this Bitcoin account
that was to prevent them from going ahead and publishing it on September 28th. Then they went on to say that if you want to ensure that this is published before September 28th, you have the option of contributing a million dollars to this other Bitcoin account
and if you win the race
the other side will not be able to prevent the publication.

Wow!The Dems are desperate.
SOP of the Chicago Alinsky communists.
Again.
Obama’s preferred tactic to “winning” is forced release of “scandalous” paperwork on the opposition.
Taxers are given more credibility by the DNC Media than “birthers”.
So the Dems can say that Romney was willing to pay a million to keep the info quiet?
This reeks of Obama and desperation.
BTW, Price Waterhouse calls bupkis on this.
hahhahaha...this is getting funny..they dont even know if its true. man.....
That is the problem with computers. Even children have access.

Long overdue for the Secret Service to get involved in protecting the candidates.
Yesterday the newly elected Quebec premiere may have been subject to an assassination attack ~ which I'm sure woke these guys up even if Karl Rove didn't.
Now we have Romney being blackmailed.
It's rough at the top.
There was no reason for the judge to open that file, other than politics. They had already been sealed by another judge, in the interest of the child.
Of course, Obama took the high road, saying "I don't think it's an appropriate topic for debate." But, if you truly believe he didn't know what was going on and coordinating with the attack dogs, I have a bridge in Chicago to sell you.
Are the democrats still screaming for Romney to release his tax returns?
There’s no one to blame for falling into this trap except for Romney and his backers in the primary. It is absolutely unacceptable for a candidate to try to keep secrets which could damage his candidacy if leaked. Everyone should have demanded his returns be published before he was given the nomination. I damn sure have no interest in losing the presidency just so Mitt can selfishly try to keep his tax returns secret at the risk of our party, the White House and the country. Keeping Mitt’s tax returns isn’t that important to me and shouldn’t be that important to him or anyone else. If the information in them would damage his candidacy, then he has an obligation to let us know. And if they wouldn’t, then he has nothing to lose by releasing them.
Bottom line is I don’t trust Mitt. Only an extremely naive, ignorant individual who was unaware of his record in politics and in Massachusetts could trust him. So I don’t believe Romney’s line that the Democrats will simply “twist” what’s in his tax returns to make it sound bad. And I’m very angry that he’s setting our party up for failure in the election by waiting for these to leak out at potentially the worst possible time.
I couldn’t care less how the information gets out. If Jack Ryan was taking his wife to group sex clubs and running for office on the hopes that it didn’t leak out, he shouldn’t be considered an acceptable nominee by our party. He should have told us that in the primary and let us decide if it mattered or not. Lord knows if we had information like that on Obama or any other Democrat, we would use it, and rightfully so. If you don’t think Jack Ryan’s private habits should be known to the voters then you must have also opposed when Drudge released the Monica Lewinsky information.
I dont think Romeny has anything to hide. its about inventing storys.
Thanks Sub-Driver. Joe the Plumber ping.
Amazing, isn't it?
I think even if Romney had released his tax returns, the dems would have found something else that he “must disclose “. These guys, even if it is a prank, should spend some time in jail, though they could be Nigerians for all we know.
Is Lex Luthor behind this?
Let ‘em publish the damned thing. Whatever is on it is on it.
So, what’s Julian Assange up to these days?
So, what’s Julian Assange up to these days?
LOL
How do you “ransom” a tax return ???
Title 18 USC has something in there about that ~ there are, as it turns out, NO NEW ways to steal. Crooks have thought of all of them several times, which is why we invariably have laws against whatever it is they are doing.
Romney can't let these guys get off lightly ~ the crime is against the rest of us as well.
Same as that Rove thing. It's not really up to Akin to forgive him and forget about it. There's a real crime and it must be punished!
oh crp..akin again...
This is what you get when you run RINOs or Democrat toadies for public office under the Republican label these days.
Bogus story.
well I dont think Romney was willing to pay
Just another empty chair threat.
Nope, they mysteriously went silent over them a few weeks ago.
They say subterranean termites are responsible for the greatest amount of property damage in the US. I’d think democrats rank somewhere above termites.
You really think so? LOL
Apparently, my point sailed right over your head.
That information was sealed by the court. Even Ryan's ex-wife wanted to keep it sealed. Another judge broke the seal, for no reason other than to embarrass Ryan and help Obama.
Clinton's dalliance with Lewinsky was not under court seal. But as far as I'm concerned, he crossed the line only when he threatened other women to keep quiet, and especially when he committed perjury and lied about it under oath.
This particular threat against Romney is probably a hoax. But if it isn't, I doubt Obama is directly involved -- he would have to be an idiot to not maintain plausible deniability. But, it was almost certainly someone in his reelection campaign, and I hope Obama remembers what happened to Nixon when he tried to cover up a two-bit burglary that he didn't authorize or even know about.
I am waiting for the dude/dudet that steals the college transcripts, the real immigration papers and passports, previous security clearances and the volumes of FBI/CIA documents relating to the Communist in Chief and his family members.
Trying to prove Mitt Romney is a real rich guy is a ho hum to me.
It was the Chicago Tribune and WLS television.
I rest my case. :-)
A new ad supposedly came out this week.
http://thehill.com/video/campaign/247349-obama-campaign-continues-to-harp-on-mitt-romneys-tax-returns-in-new-ad
Harry Reid actually admitted in public that he knows who hs seen Romney's tax returns.
Release PFC Bradley Manning and he’ll have it in a week. Just make sure to tell him that Mr. Obama, as a Muslim, wants all gays beheaded.
thought this was denied earlier?
I doubt there is anything bad in the returns but they can imply things if they claim to have seen them ..they dont need truth on their side. ..
You missed my point, which was that the issue of how the information comes out is irrelevant. The onus still remains entirely on the candidate who risks his party's victory in the election on his ability to keep something he did secret that would severely impact his ability to win at the ballot box.

YEP
What if he didn't actually do it? What if his wife's lawyer claimed that he did it? And he wasn't aware of it?
Point being, Ryan can't be held responsible for what his wife's lawyer entered into the divorce record.
Therein lies your problem in this particular regard.
Were you aware that Romney's assets have been in a "blind trust" since 2002 -- when he was elected governor of Massachusetts?
Meaning that all of his financial arrangements and tax returns are in the hands of a fiduciary and are legal to the Nth degree. He gets a quarterly report on the status of his assets and a quarterly estimated tax return. And that has been the case for ten years now. There cannot be anything to hide -- unless his fiduciary is stealing from him.
Who cares about silly tax returns?
Nobody gives a flying yahoo if the current President is even a legal American, then nobody will start anything even if Romney does have dirty laundry, besides if the remove Romney somehow then Sarah Palin will probably be talked about stepping up.
Cut bait or fish, Romney or Sarah Palin? I hope the commie-dems have a good long thought about that, which of course they lack the skills to perform.
“Yeah, sir, you might want to send a maintenance man over to that office across the way. The lights are off, and they must be looking for a fuse box, ‘cause them flashlights, they keep me awake. “

If they trace the owner of the account where the money is to be deposited, do you think they will find it belongs to Zippy?
Are you kidding?
I think Romney knows there is nothing in the tax returns.
And I think he knew they would be stolen and released.
I think he counted on it to put the scandal on the Democrats for the theft.
I’ve been saying for 5 YEARS that if Obama were a Republican, his birth certificate and college transcripts would have been stolen and released.
I don’t fear or care about Romney’s tax returns.
I just want to know: WHERE ARE *OUR* HACKERS AND BURGLARS???
