Tonight, for the first time, an undocumented immigrant will speak at a national political convention. Benita Veliz, 27, was brought to Texas from Mexico by her parents when she was 8 years old. She was threatened with deportation in 2009 after rolling through a stop sign and getting stopped by police.

I was at a McDonalds today and listened as one of the managers explained the ice cream machine to a new employee. In Spanish. And I thought of all the unemployed Americans.
Meanwhile, one of my sons has a job, and one of the managers keeps altering sons hours so that he is paid less. The managers do all clocking in and out. They also require all tips to be put in the community cup to be doled out later. There was one day when my son was handed a $50 tip that he was told to put in the group cup. His paycheck reflected that he earned $7 in tips. He had also been handed a $20 tip on the same day. Yes, he needs to find another job. But the scamming managers need to be fired. My point here is that he can’t complain because this job is better than no job. But it is sooooooo disappointing to him to expect his paycheck to be a certain amount and then to find that he is missing hours due to dishonest managers.
