Obama regrets you-didn't-build-that 'syntax' (He didn't mean what we think he meant)

President Obama walked back his infamous "you didn't build that" line in an interview that aired Wednesday with NBC 12 in Richmond, Va.

"Obviously, I have regrets for my syntax," Obama replied. "But not for the point, because everyone who was there watching knows exactly what I was saying."

Republicans built their entire Tampa convention, and in some ways, their entire case against the president around the line — spoken off hand at a campaign event in Roanoke.

Obama also said without hesitation that Americans were better off than four years ago.

"We are absolutely better off than we were when I was sworn in and we were losing 800,000 jobs in a month," Obama said.

Last weekend, two Obama surrogates hesitated to say that the country was better off after four years of Obama. The campaign later walked those remarks back.

I had a liberal try to convince me of this BS... I showed him the entire statement on You Tube and he lost the argument.

Obama of Roanoke, we saw you coming!
If the voters decide to continue this direction, serious decisions will be made for the Producers in this nation. Those that can create wealth, can do it anywhere because success is a habit. This essential habit is clearly void in the ‘Progressive’ ideology.

RE: If Julia is still in college at age 26, she has a problem.

What if she were pursuing a PH.D or a Medical Degree with a specialty? Or like, Sandra Fluke, a Law Degree?

Sorry, but he can't get away with an after the fact out-of-context claim.

Oh, I don't buy it for a second. I was just using a rhetorical device that says even if we accept the opposition's BS as truth, the underlying point is still valid.

That's not saying the the BS is true, it's just saying it doesn't matter with respect to the specific point, which is that the statement, in-context or not, provides an accurate window in the belief and practices of Obama and resonates with the general public accordingly.

None taken. I just like to make the point occasionally that it's easy to point fingers. English can be difficult to understand.

NOTE: I am NOT claiming any moral equivalence between Democrats and those who try their best to understand what the Bible is saying.

That's what he's talking about when he says his syntax was wrong (he used "that" instead of "those"...should have used plural for "roads and bridges")

Problem is, his whole context (not just the pronouns used) is denigrating businesses and glorifying Gov't. That's not a syntax problem.

“”Obviously, I have regrets for my syntax,””

Middle out speak? I'm pretty sure I have never made that statement. I have misspoken. I have lied. I have said dumb things, “my syntax” ??????? The poor and middle class use the word “syntax” all the time, don't they? Obama really knows how to relate to the middle class.

Sometimes is hard not to get caught up in that, when all the leader of your country does is point fingers of blame at everyone but himself....

I'm really looking forward to the November election so we can all finally find out what our fate will be after all the polls are closed.

In a perfect world, all candidates would just express what they really believe. There would be no photo-ops of the candidate making their one-every-4-year pilgrimage to church. Nor would there be the staged hunting trip to show they like guns. They would simply step up and tell the audience what is in their heart.

When was the last time a Democrat actually told the truth on the campaign trail? Was it Mondale that said he would raise taxes? I would have a lot more respect for any candidate, regardless of the party, if they simply told the truth. Don’t tell me what you think I want to hear, tell me what is in your heart.

The “spread the wealth” and “you didn’t build that” is what is in Obama’s heart. And no amount of spin will change that, especially with 4 years of evidence to back it up.

everyone who was there watching knows exactly what I was saying."

Which is the statist premise of libtards that the government is more important than the individual for his own success, and the libtard collectivist premise that society and others are more important than the individual.

I wasn't there, but I still know exactly what he was saying. Like Elizabeth Warren, Barack Obama is a person who neither understands nor appreciates the value of building a business, providing jobs and producing goods and services that consumers would want to purchase. He does not understand the effort and work that go into building a business - at some level, people like Obama and Warren believe that businesses are things which sprout from the earth like mushrooms to give left-wing politicians something to mindlessly rail against and tax.

This is understandable, since people like Obama and Warren have never done any productive work.

Only racists would say that Obama said what he said, after he said he said it but didn’t mean to say it.

Obviously, they think the only way women can make it is with the help of the government.

Women decided that they don't need men, now they want the government to take care of them?

You made your beds, now sleep in them. With your cats!

He can blather all he wants, but it simply will not work. It’s on the Internet, he said it, anyone who has doubts can listen to it, and they can all hear what he said.

Every native speaker of English recognizes the syntax. Everyone knows what he meant. It’s not just the arrangement of the words, it’s tone, infliction, timing, etc.

His “who are you going to believe, me or your own lying ears” is pathetically laughable.
