Democrats’ “Night of a 1000 Liars”
Front Page Magazine ^ | September 6, 2012 | Daniel Greenfield

Two months ago Obama made a bet with the devil. “I bet that I can make a convention night where all the high profile speakers, including the chair of my own party, are absolutely shameless liars.” Bad news. The devil lost the bet.

The keynote speaker was Bill Clinton, who is known for two things. One of them is becoming the first president to be impeached in the court of public opinion after blatantly lying to the public on camera.

Before him there was Elizabeth Warren, known for two things, “You didn’t build that” and lying about being a Cherokee. Then there was Sandra Fluke, famous for two things, being called a slut by Rush Limbaugh and lying about birth control.

All three high profile speakers who got the most publicity for Night 2 of the convention were known and confirmed liars who got into trouble for being lying liars. It’s hard to think of three worse people to convince a nation of the credibility of the Democratic Party. Worse still their lying skills vary wildly. Bill Clinton is a top notch liar, but Elizabeth Warren is a bad liar. Sandra Fluke is closer to the Warren side of the lying spectrum.

Then there was Debbie Wasserman-Schultz whose profile photo has just been added to the Woodhouse English Dictionary under the phrase, “Bad Liar” making further definitions unnecessary.

That’s not counting Richard Trumka, who was charged with more serious things than just lying.

>>>Trumka’s closet skeletons extend to corruption, specifically, a pair of money-laundering schemes, among a half-dozen totaling $885,000 that helped re-elect Teamsters General President Ron Carey in 1996 over his close rival, James P. Hoffa. That election eventually was invalidated, paving the way for Hoffa’s current presidency. The Teamsters had been under federal oversight since 1989, the result of an out-of-court settlement of the Justice Department’s civil RICO suit against the scandal-ridden union. In his report disqualifying Carey from office, the union’s special election officer, Kenneth Conboy, concluded that Trumka had laundered $150,000 from the union through the AFL-CIO to a political advocacy group, Citizen Action, which in turn routed $100,000 of the money to the Carey campaign. Conboy also concluded Trumka had participated in another illegal arrangement in which he either contributed or solicited $50,000 in order to bankroll the Carey campaign.<<<

But Emmanuel Cleaver, another speaker in Night 2, makes Trumka look like the petty crook that he is. Forget 885,000 and think 48 billion.

>>>Cleaver has listed a new earmark — one of several — and he promises to “fight for every one.” But this is a whopping $48 billion package that must go down as the grandaddy of all earmarks. Proposed by a gentleman named Lamar Mickens, president of the not-for-profit Quality Day Campus, the $48 billion earmark would funnel money into the inner cities to give money to the poor and thereby produce a much larger consumer class to buy the goods and services produced in this country.<<<

Quality Day Campus was a day care center run by Mickens out of his own home. Wait maybe I should have called this, “Night of a 1000 Crooks” instead.

......................."The first truth about leftist missionaries, about believing progressives, is that they are liars. But they are not liars in the ordinary way, which is to say by choice. They are liars by necessity—often without even realizing that they are. Because they also lie to themselves. It is the political lie that gives their cause its life.

Why, for example, if you were one of them, would you tell the truth? If you were serious about your role in humanity's vanguard, if you had the knowledge (which others did not), that you were certain would lead them to a better world, why would you tell them a truth that they could not "understand" and that would hold them back?

If others could understand your truth, you would not think of yourself as a "vanguard." You would no longer inhabit the morally charmed world of an elite, whose members alone can see the light and whose mission is to lead the unenlightened towards it. If everybody could see the promised horizon and knew the path to reach it, the future would already have happened and there would be no need for the vanguard of the saints.

That is both the ethical core and psychological heart of what it means to be a part of the left. That is where the gratification comes from. To see yourself as a social redeemer. To feel anointed. In other words: To be progressive is itself the most satisfying narcissism.

That is why it is of little concern to them that their socialist schemes have run aground, burying millions of human beings in their wake. That is why they don't care that their panaceas have caused more human suffering than all the injustices they have ever challenged. That is why they never learn from their "mistakes." That is why the continuance of Them is more important than any truth.

If you were active in the so-called "peace" movement or in the radical wing of the civil rights causes, why would you tell the truth? Why would you tell people that no, you weren't really a "peace activist," except in the sense that you were against America's war. Why would you draw attention to the fact that while you called yourselves "peace activists," you didn't oppose the Communists' war, and were gratified when America's enemies won?

What you were really against was not war at all, but American "imperialism" and American capitalism. What you truly hated was America's democracy, which you knew to be a "sham" because it was controlled by money in the end. That's why you wanted to "Bring the Troops Home," as your slogan said. Because if America's troops came home, America would lose and the Communists would win. And the progressive future would be one step closer.

But you never had the honesty—then or now—to admit that. You told the lie then to maintain your influence and increase your power to do good (as only the Chosen can). And you keep on telling the lie for the same reason.

Why would you admit that, despite your tactical support for civil rights, you weren't really committed to civil rights as Americans understand rights? What you really wanted was to overthrow the very Constitution that guaranteed those rights, based as it is on private property and the individual—both of which you despise.

It is because America is a democracy and the people endorse it, that the left's anti-American, but "progressive" agendas can only be achieved by deceiving the people. This is the cross the left has to bear: The better world is only achievable by lying to the very people they propose to redeem.

Despite the homage contemporary leftists pay to post-modernist conceits, despite their belated and half-hearted display of critical sentiment towards Communist regimes, they are very much the ideological heirs of Stalinist progressives, who supported the greatest mass murders in human history, but who remember themselves as civil libertarian opponents of McCarthy and victims of a political witch-hunt. (Only the dialectically gifted can even begin to follow the logic involved.)"................................ Source

Well stated. I've said the same thing so many times, but in more general terms - you have succinctly defined the problem with progressive elites in two paragraphs. You should write for a conservative publication or blog. I think there is a slogan or bumper sticker in there somewhere - just a matter of condensing.

Thanks Navy Vet but those are the words of David Horowitz (who says it so well because he was one of them early on).

http://archive.frontpagemag.com/readArticle.aspx?ARTID=24376

More from his piece:

“....No matter how great the crimes progressives commit, no matter how terrible the future they labor to create, no matter how devastating the catastrophes they leave behind, the world outside the faith seems ever ready to forgive them their “mistakes” and to grant them the grace of “good intentions.”

It would be difficult to recall, for example, the number of times I have been introduced on conservative platforms as “a former civil rights worker and peace activist in the 1960s.” I have been described this way despite having written a detailed autobiography that exposes these self-glorifying images of the left as so many political lies. Like many New Left leaders whom the young Mrs. Clinton once followed (and who are her comrades today), I regarded myself in the 1960s as a socialist and a revolutionary. No matter what slogans we chanted, or ideals we proclaimed our agendas always extended beyond (and well beyond) the immediate issues of “civil rights” and “peace.”

New Left progressives—including Hillary Clinton and her comrade, Acting Deputy Attorney General Bill Lann Lee—were involved in supporting, or protecting or making excuses for violent anti-American radicals abroad like the Vietcong and anti-American criminals at home like the Black Panthers. We did this then—just as progressives still do now—in the name of “social justice” and a dialectical world-view that made this deception appear ethical and the fantasy seem possible.”......

You know I can’t think of those libs as “bad” liars.

I think they are very good liars, in fact. Our best little Debbie....come on, she’s such a good liar she should win awards.

Cause a liar does not blink, choke, blush, jolt aback, when their lies are presented to them. DWS, God bless, stands tall and wide-eyed and there’s a good liar.

Some people even feel shame for being caught in a lie. But this is a culture where the best liar wins.

They make those group type board games out of these sorts of concepts.

So if the new conqueror is not the soldier or terrorist, but the one who lies the best....hey, the conservatives need to realize that they may have started out playing monopoly but it’s a new game now.

The winner is the best liar.

It’s genius.
