Planned Parenthood Prez: Without Birth Control 'Few Women Had Opportunity to Finish School' By Terence P. Jeffrey September 6, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards told the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday that before birth control was legalized in the United States women did not have the opportunity to finish school and did not live long past the age of 50.

"Nearly 100 years ago when Planned Parenthood was founded, birth control was illegal," Richards told the convention. "And as a result, few women had the opportunity to finish school, and we really weren't even expected to live much past the age of 50.

"But times have changed," she said. "Today, we're mothers and we are teachers and scientists and accountants and members of the armed forces. And because of President Barack Obama, more women than ever are serving in the U.S. cabinet and on the United States Supreme Court. We've come so far. We`ve come so far."

However, a study on historical trends in high school graduation rates for American born between 1900 and 1980 done for the National Bureau of Economic Research shows that throughout that period females had a higher graduation rate than males.

Statistics published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention dating back to 1900 indicate that in all periods since then women in the United States have had a longer life expectancy than men.

Where was birth control illegal?
Condoms and other sorts of BC have been around for 5,000 years, what is she talking about?

This is a straw man. Nobody is trying ban birth control. The ‘pubs really need to hammer home the difference between trying to ban something and just objecting to making someone else provide it free of charge. College coeds can pay for their own consequence free recreational sex.

“Nearly 100 years ago when Planned Parenthood was founded, birth control was illegal,” Richards told the convention.

I guess Ma Richards’ lesbian daughter left out one of the reasons Margaret Sanger founded Planned Parenthood: to wipe out the Black race and other “undesirables”. It is unbelievable that this radically race-baiting political party should sing the praises of an organization that closely mirrored the KKK in its objectives.

Heard an interview on Catholic Answers this week (podcast) with a woman who ran an abortion clinic, I urge ALL to listen to it, I learned SO much. For example they distribute second hand cheap condoms knowing that they will probably break, that they prescribe low dose birth control. They tell the girls to take them at the same time every day knowing full well that teenagers won’t remember to do that. They play on the fear factor of the girl, they don’t use the word “mother” or “baby”, it just goes on and on. I wish I could provide a link to this interview. People really need to hear this. The Podcast is called “Behind the Headlines” first hour, September 4, 2012, with Carol Everett (spelling). Do yourselves a favor and listen, you’ll learn alot.

With knowledge comes power.

This is a classic example of the old adage about liars and statistics. The life expectancy at birth for both sexes in 1900 was about 50 years, due to the high levels of infant and child mortality. Most people, men and women, did not graduate high school at that time.

As the article points out, however, historically American women have bettered men in both statistics.

This is a pretty good illustration of how the left gets away with outright lies based on kernels of truth. Think we'll see one of those MSM "fact check" stories about this???

Guess Planned Parenthood never heard of Margaret Meade, Marie Curie (French, but won the ONLY person to win two Nobel prizes), or these ladies: http://www.ams.org/publications/authors/books/postpub/hmath-34-PioneeringWomen.pdf
Plus, they ignore the fact that very few men “had [an] opportunity to finish school.” College was pretty much limited to the elite until after WWII.

These people (Democraps) act like the ONLY thing women think about 24/7 is sex and pregnancy risk. It’s sickening to listen to them harp on this subject ad nauseum! For a group of “progressives” all concerned about equal rights, you’d think they’d understand that most women worry their pretty little heads over OTHER things — like jobs, national security, crime, etc.... or do they really think deep down women aren’t capable of that type of thinking, only “gee, how many times can I have sex without getting caught”. I’ll say this, they have the right mascot: Jackasses!

Look up Grizwald vs Connecticut, and the Comstock Act, and Eisenstadt v. Baird.

BC was often legal for married couples only. Condoms were sometimes sold to unmarried people “for disease prevention only”. Comstock restricted the dissemination of information about contraception.

I never understand certain things. One of those things is why it is a matter of women’s health that all these college girls are on the pill.

And I don’t understand why liberals expect the government to subsidize abortion and birth control. Liberals can’t seem to grasp the concept that having a right to do something doesn’t automatically mean that the government pays for your life choices.

There were laws against medical birth control at that time, but most birth control at that time was non medical.

The first line of birth control was called "parents," who set expectations of behavior and monitored their children. Then there was "society," which reinforced the values of the parents and did not try to subvert the children behind the parent's backs. School children were commonly segregated by sex in schools to prevent the occasions where pregnancies could occur. Also, "work" helped out, as children would be at work, rather than socializing.

Finally, if those didn't work, there was the last line of defense, "shotgun" and "marriage," which if the young refused the previous methods, then there was a way for them to live up to their responsibilities.

If you consider women to be nothing more than walking vaginas (and we have plenty of proof that libs thinks that with programs such as “Vaginas Vote” and code-pink’s recent costume party) with no ability to stop copulating, then this makes perfect sense.

Birth control allows men to use women just for their sex organs with no fear any unwanted responsibilities such as a relationship with the woman beyond sex or a child. And most young women have bought into this because they are being told that they are now “free” to do what ever they want. These women (hey, Fluke, I’m looking at you ) really think that they’re better off living a world where they aren’t considered anything more than a vagina by most men they associate with because the truth is covered up with catchy slogans and meaningless promises of “equality” and “you CAN have it all”

Progressives only pretend to care about a woman beyond her vagina, but the mask always ends up slipping and you can see the truth behind the birth-control/abortion on demand crowd.

In many states BC was only available to married couples. Also in many states it was illegal to give people information about contraception. And abortion was illegal or severely restricted in most states. RvW was only one of several court cases changing that.

Seems odd from today’s perspective where we have The Pill and 14 yo’s getting “free” condoms at school. I know some older people who told me stories about being able to buy “rubbers” at certain gas stations or barber shops if you knew who to ask and what to ask for. I don’t know if there were prosecutions, but it was illegal to sell rubbers to unmarried people. There were diaphragms and pessaries, but that was “married only” or black market for singles.

Bill Baird was one pioneer who changed that.

It is an axiom on the left that women will and should (and there’s something wrong with those who don’t) have sex outside of marriage.

Just somehow, women can’t control themselves and just have to have sex. Like going into heat or something.

This idea must be derived from the secular atheistic evolutionary worldview.

If we’re just an “advanced” animal, then we are biologically enslaved to act like animals.

She should’ve said, “Without birth control, women, all of whom are slut-whores, perpetually in the throes of heat, would be popping out babies because they’re too friggin’ stupid to say ‘no’ or keep their knees together.” I expect that, in other speeches this person gives, women are portrayed as strong, capable, awesome people who should be running the world. >>Also in many states it was illegal to give people information about contraception.<<

Holy crap! I guess moms telling their daughters about the rhythm method and lemon cervical caps put them all in jail!

Not really.

It’s easy in the “information age” to forget that MOST information was passed down from generation to generation. You just didn’t go somewhere to talk about sex, just like you didn’t go somewhere to learn how to cook. Moms told daughters and Dads told sons. Including how to prevent pregnancy.

The problem is that the libs can’t find the difference between “Birth Control” and “Artificial Birth Control”. Any dude that did time in the military (most American men) got the talks and knew about how babies were made.

Hellsbells in the year 388, Augustine of Hippo wrote of periodic abstinence to prevent pregnancy. Let’s not fall for the Margaret Sanger story of history.

Yeah, if having a right means forcing the taxpayers to provide a subvention for the exercise of that right or forcing one’s employer to pay for it, I’m waiting for my government-subsidized printer, ink, paper supply, layout-software and a government- or employer-provided rifle and ammunition so I can exercise my right to freedom of the press and right to keep and bear arms, which (according to the left’s “reasoning”) I am now being denied. And on the principle that Sandra Fluke applies in expecting exorbitant expenditures to be subsidized, it better be a really nice sniper rifle with a good, easy to adjust scope.
