CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Democratic National Committee chairwoman and congresswoman from Florida, was at ease this morning among a group of Democrats from deep-blue California.

"Let me just tell you how much I appreciate the oasis of Democratic politics that California is," she said at a delegation breakfast on the final day of the Democratic National Convention. "I know that you all feel like you live in heaven."

My kids went to their first day of (public) school this morning. The middle schooler has classes in portable classrooms that will NEVER be replaced by permanent buildings, apparently because building a permanent building with union labor is prohibitively expensive.

Maybe Debbie is a satirical genius, a whimsical old owl? Or maybe the fact that California is bankrupt is lost on her as she accidentally blames the "the oasis of Democratic politics" on the fiscal problems that is bankrupting the state.

Put Debbie, Nancy and Barbra in an inflatable row boat with one oar, a bottle of water, a knife and a candy bar in the middle of the Pacific with hidden cameras rolling. I'd pay to watch a real episode of Survivor for that.

I don’t blame you for feeling that way. Just remember that California is around 55-60% liberal at best....the rest aren’t. When I moved there in 1976, it was just the opposite.
