DOn’t think the hostages made it, do you?
Good on the Russians. We need to see much more of this direct action at sea, as well as interdictions at the Somali seaports.
R2D2 gets the job done.
Somalia needs to be made a boat free zone for the next 40 years.
—looks more like target practise than “combat” to me-—
Wazzat a Gatling Gun?..........
I counted 3-4 hits out of 100-200+ rounds. Seems that’s all it took to scratch those dinghys.
Looks like it. The Russian answer to Phalanx?
LOL at the way they keep firing after the last secondary explosion.
I wonder if the Somalian pirates will attack Russian flagged vessels again? That was brutal.
Vympel A 30mm CIWS
I WANT ONE.......or TWO...............
It’s already a Food Free Zone.............
,,,,,, Russians love their vodka ,,, accuracy ,,,, who needs it ,,,, gimme another swig comrade.
Yeah, believe it is a 30mm CIWS similar to the Phalanx, but not using an integral tracking radar.
Yeah, the accuracy wasn’t very good, but I loved the way they wouldn’t stop. If it had been us, we would’ve fired a few rounds across the bow, then paused to talk, then repeat, and repeat again. Then fire a few into the boat, then pause a long time while we continued talking, ad nauseum. But for the Russians, it was TAKE THAT!... AND THAT!... AND THAT!... TAKE THAT!... AND THAT!... AND THAT!... TAKE THAT!... AND THAT!... AND THAT!... until there was just a pile of burning splinters on the surface. Loved it.
Some of those rounds were going through the target, I’m sure. A flimsy fishing boat might not even detonate a cannon shell.
I like seeing the civilized nations dealing with this menace but the reality is that such encounters with warships are rare. The pirates have strategies and equipment that allow them to attack multiple targets as they like. The naval resources required to protect all ships from this threat cannot be utilized without causing harm to meeting other security obligations.
