Thought Police Patrol Convention’s Radio Row
National Review ^ | September 6, 2012 | John Fund

Posted on 09/06/2012 4:47:33 PM PDT by grundle

Conservative talk-show hosts who came to Charlotte to interview political figures are furious. For the first time in anyone’s memory, Radio Row — the designated set of booths available to visiting talk-show hosts — has seen restrictions placed on its use by Team Obama. DNC staffers at Radio Row will book leading Democrats for slots on conservative stations but then cancel the appearances an hour or so before broadcast “because you’re not our audience.”

Roger Hedgecock, a former mayor of San Diego now hosting a nationally syndicated talk show, decided to pack up and leave Charlotte early because “we were blocked from getting any guests that mattered. It was a complete freeze.” Larry O’Connor of Breitbart Radio told me, “It was the most bizarre act of censorship. These shows paid large fees and spent thousands on equipment setup and they couldn’t do their programs because of interference.”

“According to sources at Talk Radio News Service, placing a stringer outside the designated TV area to ask high-level Democrats to stop by radio row has also been banned by the DNC,” Ben Shapiro wrote at Breitbart’s Big Journalism:

"When I approached liberal activist John Podesta about appearing on KRLA’s “Heidi Harris Show” along with me and my co-hosts Heidi Harris (conservative) and Brian Whitman (liberal), his handler quickly intervened. Later, the handler stopped by to clarify: did the show have two liberals and one conservative, or two conservatives and one liberal? When I stated that it had two conservatives and one liberal, he quickly shook his head and sprinted away."

So much for the transparency and openness of the Obama era.

To invite someone with the intent of canceling an hour before the scheduled interview is rude and disrespectful. Hopefully this will be mentioned at Drudge Report by tomorrow - embarrassment may be the best way to get this kind of censorship to stop.

Gangster administration. Why is anyone surprised?

I hear the booths are unavailable for much of the military to vote too!

Fine. Our candidates should boycott the Sunday leftist yik-yak shows. We don't need them to get our message out.

Then there’s Charlotte’s WBT radio that fired one of the best afternoon conservative hosts they’d had in a long time (Vince Coakley), just a few months before the DNC. The station then brought in some squishy duo...one a very obnoxious lib.

War on conservative talkradio.

Just a skirmish. The real war begins after Obongo's next inauguration.

WND had an article a couple of days ago, Ax falls on conservative radio hosts

A Charlotte radio station is dropping conservatives because "The new station owners say they are simply trying to get away from straight politics – the station’s bread-and-butter for years – and move to something 'a lot more fun.' They explain that the lighter fare will 'appeal to a wider audience.'"

I have heard more than one conservative radio talk show host say that consultants are telling radio stations that people do not want politics and Obama / Romney all the time; listeners want more fun stuff and lighter fare.

I now more than ever believe know that "radio consultants" are shills for the aged 1960s Marxist-Alinsky campus radicals (psycho spoiled brats) and their bratty ideological issue; i.e., the Demobrat Party (formerly the traditional, patriotic Democratic Party).

Of course, the defunct Democratic Party was full of dirty tricksters and SOBs but they weren't enemies of America.. they were at least our SOBs.

Shills for liberals did exactly the same kind of thing during the "Fairness Doctrine" era except it was a lot simpler.. the shills had only to file FCC complaints against the station owners.

I sort of listen to WBT when I am visiting home just south of Charlotte and caught some Vince and liked him. What was he fired for? Hancock is one I could do without. Larson is probably my favorite one. I miss Tara Servatius.

WBT used to be a good station.

Every now and then I will use IHeartRadio and listen.

Brad and Britt (or Sad and Twit as I’ve heard them called) are TERRIBLE. They used to be the morning show on 101 FM out of Greensboro, a station with several liberal programs and no big-name conservatives that I remember. How they moved up to drive-time afternoons in Charlotte is beyond me.

They are new to me. Wasn’t there Spires or Krantz back with another someone else for a while in the afternoons?

I used to love WBT but it has gone so far downhill.

WBT did not renew Vince’s contract. Not sure why, but a lot of people were upset to lose him. I think he picked up the 3pm slot after Tara as temporary fill in that graduated to perm. But then WBT replaced him with a pair of yokels...one of which they’d actually fired several years ago (Krantz).

I liked Vince a lot. He was very conservative. He even had a religious program on Fridays (Faith Fridays?), after his regular show.

I hate to say it, but I think wbt is swinging leftward.

Sorry...I should have read all the remarks before posting my last. You were way ahead of me. And yes...it was Spires & Krantz. Hopefully, wbt is feeling the advertiser pinch.
