Sprint Cup - The Federated Auto Parts 400
09|08|12 7 p.m. ET ABC
Richmond International Raceway
Racing actually began in Richmond in 1946, when Ted Horn drove a Champ Car to victory over a .5-mile dirt track at Strawberry Hill Speedway.
NASCAR was founded in 1948, and five years later the sanctioning body staged a race in its Grand National Division at Atlantic Rural Exposition Fairgrounds on April 19, 1953.
Since that first race in Richmond in 1953, the track has undergone three name changes, four configuration changes and one surface change, from dirt to asphalt.
Lights were also added to the facility in 1991. RIR is the only track to hold all of its major events under the lights.
Richmond's unique, .75-mile layout produces tremendous side-by-side racing, yet drivers obtain high enough speeds to give it a superspeedway feel. That rare combination still allows for the beating and banging that fans love, with the drivers' skill playing a major role.
The track's fall date is now the final race leading up to the Chase.

Kenseth > Gibbs, Logano > Penske. Stenhouse to the 17?
MtnClinger in before Fender Bender.
I think Kenseth is a good fit at Gibbs because he’s so low key emotionally where Busch and Hamlin are pretty hyper.
Logano was on the verge of becoming a “journeyman” at age 22 (if that’s even possible) because he started in Cup so young but hasn’t yet become a top line driver, although it could still happen.
Going to Penske is probably a good deal for him, although the Bradster is just as tough a comparison as Kyle Busch IMHO.
I like Brad. I think he’ll help Joey.
He’s a big talent. I think his long history with the family racing team gives him great insight into handling and adjustments.
Do you know if there is a race this weekend?
Look for a nice fly over after the National anthem (F-18, etc.) from Norfolk, NAS.
Thanks, weather forecast is mixed .. fingers crossed.
Overcast with a chance of rain in the evening, then mostly cloudy. Fog overnight. Low of 63F. Winds from the NW at 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20%.
My eldest son and I will be there.
Wow she looks horrible. Went from 16 to 40 in just a couple years.
Newman to return to SHR, hopes sponsors follow
By David Caraviello, NASCAR.COM

RICHMOND, Va. — Signing Ryan Newman to an extension was the easy part for Stewart-Haas Racing. Now comes the difficult part.
Newman re-signs with Stewart Haas for one year
The driver of the No. 39 car will be with SHR for at least another more season after agreeing to a one-year extension with the organization, but he still faces the unknown of who will sponsor his vehicle in 2013. Primary backer U.S. Army is bowing out after this year under pressure from two members of Congress trying to eliminate military sponsorships, part of a larger sponsor shuffle at SHR that also includes Office Depot, the primary on teammate Tony Stewart’s vehicle, departing at season’s end.
Oh yeah. Lookout Hollywood and Broadway! Billy Ray is fit to be tied, I reckun..
coo and Good luck! Let us know how it goes at the track!
Reminds me of my little sister who is now my big old sister. I did the right thing when I left FResno one dark and stormy night...
Sponsors are hard to find these days but not as hard as slots in the chase...
Thanks Norm. Missed the last race do to business travels. Hoping for a knock-down drag out helmut throwing regular season finale.
So that was you that got away...
They’re still looking for ya over off of Van Ness...
Somebody new has your fridge box...
We used canvas truckers tarps we found at the old truck stop on 99 south
Copy that.. Thanks!

Romney to attend Richmond Cup race
By NASCAR Wire Service
September 07, 2012 3:49 PM, EDT
Earlier this week, the presidential race moved into the heart of NASCAR country when the Democratic National Convention came to Charlotte, N.C.
On Saturday, the campaign will go on the road with the Sprint Cup Series when Republican candidate Mitt Romney drops in on the last race before the Chase field is set.
This won’t be the first race of the season for Romney, who attended the Daytona 500 in February. Romney enjoys considerable support in the NASCAR community. In mid-August, NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France and team owner Rick Hendrick hosted a fund-raiser for the GOP nominee at the Duke Mansion in the upscale Myers Park section of Charlotte.
Romney’s posture toward the automotive industry, however, has been an issue in the campaign. Under the headline “Let Detroit Go Bankrupt,” Romney wrote an op-ed piece that appeared in the Nov. 18, 2008, edition of The New York Times opposing a bailout for U.S. automakers.
Get your bets in early on this race. A squall line is expected through the region during or very near the start time of the race. It should be on the Ohio-TN river valley this evening.
Yup, nasty squall line. Weather channel says 40% chance of rain/thunderstorms tomorrow afternoon/evening w/some of the storms severe. Same forecast for Sunday also; you know NASCAR is going to be cautious about having a race w/lightning.
The energy being seen tonite will be in the Richmond area ATT tomorrow. It is going to happen. Place your bets accordingly.... :^)
Just great!!! I requested the day off from weeding the garden to view the race and you tell me it will rain???
Hey, wait a minute, mister. It’s a NIGHT race so you’ve got all day to take care of your weeding unless of course you’re one of those guys who weeds with a flashlite wearing J.J. jammies.
Speaking of Hendrick Motorsports did you read about this?
You might be able to weed you garden both today and tonight. Weather channel has Richmond with a 70% chance of rain at green flag time...it might be a very late race to us west coasties.
Was the short notice because you wanted all the cookies for yourself??
Goof’n off today and be back before the projected race time.
Looks like a weather front moving through the NE US is giving a 70% chanse of rain in Richmond tonight.
We are bailing out. My son lives out of town and we have heavy rain just outside of town now. I think this race will be a rain out. So, we will be watching on TV after all. I have been to rain outs before. It is not fun. The grandstands are not water proof at all. So you go stand under them during the rain and water pours down on you through the gaps between the metal. You can go back to your car but that is no fun either and the car can be a ways away.
Probably a wise chose Capt’m.
It is now raining at my house, which is in the VCU area near downtown and RIR.
Does that mean I can start happy hour early?
arrgghhh!! Good luck and stay as dry as ya can..!! Thanks for the track update!!
Hang in there, We may get lucky , once the nastier stuff moves thru, this is a shorter track so drying time will be quicker.. remnants of Isaac or jusy more global varming? Stay Tuned. :-}
|RANK||+/-||DRIVER||POINTS||BEHIND||STARTS||POLES||WINS||TOP 5||TOP 10||WINNINGS|

|63||--||Robert Richardson Jr.||0||-879||1||0||0||0||0||110,318|
I think that the worst of it is right now and they will be able to get underway an hour or so late and get the race in.
Weather Delay at Richmond Ping!!
abc has weather delayed football on now.. hang in there..
Flipping between Monster Jam and the game. I really, really want to get the chase settled. Hope we don’t go into tomorrow.
