British Woman Calls Indian Surrogate She Hired a “Receptacle”

Biological colonialism is on the rise. Rich couples from western nations hiring poor Indian women to be surrogates. It seems like a win-win. The infertile couple gets the child they so desperately want on the cheap and the surrogates make more money than they can hope to make in such a short time. But look closer and you find a disturbing western attitude that the poor, dark, and different women are not people, but vessels in which to grow the next generation; natural resources to be exploited to continue on the western blood line.

TOPICS: Culture/Society
KEYWORDS: colonialism; elitism; moralabsolutes; surrogacy; surrogate
But just think how British Literature might have been impacted had this been available a century ago:

The Charge of the White Brigade
A Passage to Uteri
King Fallopian's Tubes
Heart of Fundus
Miscarriage on the Bounty & Pitocin's Island
Around the World in One Trimester
Out of Amnion
The Last of the Lactations
Gyne Din
Julius Cesarian
Teahouse of the August Womb
(I know this is American, but it will come to our shores as well)

And the quintessential colonial poem by Kipling might have been:

Take up the White Man's burden--
Send forth the best ye breed--
Go, raise your progeny in dusky wombs
Fear not befouled thy seed;
To grow, in ape-like harness,
Midst fluttered folk and wild--
Your new-caught sullen placenta,
Taints not thy genteel child.

100 bucks says that the "mother", Octavia:

-- does not believe in the Judeo-Christian God
-- is a believer in global warming
-- thinks minorities are oppressed
-- has no minority neighbors
-- plans to send her child(ren) to schools where few oppressed minorities are represented
-- is an avid follower of "celebrities"
-- votes as liberal as she can every chance she gets

If there was a poverty stricken country of whites next door to England I'm sure the Brits would target those women to be their surrogates. It would cost them less.

That the English think less of brown people is not a good thing. But attitudes and biases are free for all of us to have, however obnoxious they are.

As someone said, this is a win win. The couple gets a baby, the Indian surrogate gets money.

“As someone said, this is a win win. The couple gets a baby, the Indian surrogate gets money.”

...westerners are perfectly willing for a strange woman to risk her life, another low birthweight/developmentally disabled/physically afflicted IVF baby is born, the mad scientists cash big checks and continue to practice their ghoulish experimentation on human embryos...

Yeah, win win win win win win.

When she heard about this, Sandra Fluke responded, "I resemble that remark."

I suppose surrogate motherhood is a logical modern extension of “wet-nursing” of old wherein aristocratic, then as the society got richer, middle class women put out their newborns to be nursed until weaning by poor women.
