Skip to comments.Obama vs Romney Polls: Obama Tanks Among Women and Independents
Posted on 09/07/2012 7:15:06 AM PDT by 11th_VA
registered voters in the latest ABC News/Washington Post poll see Obama favorably overall, down 7 percentage points from his recent peak in April, while 49% rate him unfavorably. Hes numerically underwater in this group for the first time since February.
The decline has occurred entirely among women registered voters from 57%-39% favorable-unfavorable in April to a numerically negative 46%-50% now. Thats Obamas lowest score among women voters a focus of recent political positioning in ABC/Post polls since he took office.
On top of that, according to CNNs latest poll, Romneys lead among independents has jumped in the last week from 3 points to 10 points today among likely voters.

Obama’s convention bounce will turn into a dead cat splat.
This news coupled with a terrible dem. convention and the
terrible jobs report will begin to sink Obama!
Good ads. Romney should run them on national television.
As one Freeper said:” Carp just does not bounce.”
I meant:” Crap just does not bounce.”
Carp works too...unless it’s racist.
A poll of “women” is meaningless, because there are such HUGE differences between the mindset of married women and single women.
I don’t think Carp does either.
Both are racist of course
If it is true, I will believe it after the election. 2008 taught me that the stupidity of the American voter can never be underestimated.
Ras has Romney only one up today, but Obama still at a dismal 45%. Time for Romney to launch his counter-offensive with an ad blitz that exposes the bogus job numbers and the hyper Fed stimulus.
Perhaps women are finally becoming offended by the Democrats’ “all-gyno-all-the-time” view of them.
Remember how some of the protesters were dressed at the RN convention. It was a woman’s body part. That is how Democrats see women. I think that view of women is biting the Democrats now.
How can he have dropped so much among women? What about the GOP war on women?
Clearly these polls were taken before Sandra Fluke and her speech. I’m sure we’ll see a spike among women now that the convention is over and all of these events register with women voters. (sarcasm)
The shock was particularly acute, as I had spent too much time reading the posts in the FR echo chamber, and had foolishly projected the views of the smart and well-informed Freepers onto the electorate as a whole.
The first one is actually from "Independent Women's Voice". I think it's the best one. Here's a direct link to it (I wish we could embed videos):
This is the one from the RNC. The actress looks a lot like "Obama Girl":
The second video ends with a URL, which redirects to the GOP.com website:
“I would vote for a real corpse over either Obama or Romney”
That’s really smart! Great plan.
They also see more and more people getting groceries on the govts dime that they themselves can't afford to buy.
Just a few weeks ago a girl I went to HS with, an extreme leftist, made the comment to me that she was fed up with it.
Her mother laughed at her and said it took Obama 3 years to teach her what she couldn't teach her in over 50 years.
That's known as a "dead fish bounce".
The world just loves a joker:)
If we are going with the old “who do single women or women in bad marriages see as the ‘protector’” theory that some women may vote for, it is interesting.
In the past the GOP, like George W. Bush in 2004 or even Reagan in 1984 may be seen more as a protector in a physical sense. Clinton clearly won on economic security (no matter whether we argue the reality, just the perception is relevant here), and Obama won after the bailouts/collapse as something new during tumult...the new guy. It really didn’t matter what McCain did, he was toast after the collapse.
So where does that leave us? Basically I see Obama as part Carter part Bush 41 in terms of the situation he is presiding over. I put Bush 41 in there because while the economy is bad, the media hasn’t pushed it as it was pushed in the late 70s and there is no way Romney is winning 40+ states.
Romney also isn’t Ronald R, so this is similar to a combo of Clinton 92 and Obama 08. Essentially he is a “light switch” option....he seems safe enough. And after “the new guy” got drunk, forgot to let out the dog and drove the Camry in the ditch, Romney seems like the EXACT sort of person to come help. He reminds me of that dad on Seventh Heaven who seems bland, but when you are in the ditch he gives you a sense of organization and calm in a storm. That is a valuable trait in a President perception wise (and maybe reality).
But the real news is that it is on the ECONOMY. Romney can very well take the economy away from the Democrats....and he can talk intelligently about it...which, to be honest, hasn’t been the case for National GOP in a while.
Romney and Ryan talking about the economy blows away either Bush, Dole or McCain.
So we may be embarking a real shift, where women will see the GOP as the economic protectors.
A lot of FReepers knew the election was over when McCain pretty much endorsed Obama.... “We have nothing to fear from Barack Obama. Barack Obama’s a good man....”

Enjoy and propagate.
One of the things I noticed, which I’m surprised that no one commented on - is that the speakers at the DNC convention all had one thing in common; they like to scream and shout at the audience, camera, microphones, etc.
The RNC, on the other hand, was more businesslike with a “Let’s Just Get This Done” attitude.
The Dems launch into their usual histrionics and hysterical estrogen-induced rage at the drop of a dime...
I don’t know about anyone else, but the moment I here someone shouting and screeching at me, the “Listen” switch goes to the OFF position immediately.
They sounded like lunatic fringe freaks. Unhinged.
I am a married woman and knew BHO was an empty suit in 08 but also knew as that the American Idol Presidential candidate, he would win.
What I don't get is that a lot of the national polls still show BHO with a slight lead. Are they just cooking the numbers? How could that possibly be when there is nothing but bad news for his campaign every day. Did you see Dana Milbanks in the WP today? Oh yeah, the thrill is GONE>
DNC Freak Show.
“2008 taught me that the stupidity of the American voter can never be underestimated.”
I concur that Americans are not very learned (they are bright at what they do for a living, but have little interest in the larger world outside of their little worlds), but I also read “desperation” in the 2008 results. If that was the true source, then Obama has no chance; he will be unseated by the same force that he rode in.
“What I don’t get is that a lot of the national polls still show BHO with a slight lead. Are they just cooking the numbers?”
I have to believe, based on the election results since his coronation in 2008, that these numbers are meaningless. Only time will tell, but I think the media can’t just admit he is done; they have to hype everything to draw viewers (in addition to influencing people), and we’re just watching theater at this point. Even before the mid-terms, the losses in NJ, MA, and VA ust ONE YEAR after he carried all three were an indication of his unpopularity; the mid-term “shellacking” (as he put it) confirmed it for me.
Polls can be made to say one thing or the other. The only poll that matters is on Election Day, so I just don’t place too much stock in them.
Anyone who was paying attention in 08 and did even a small amount of research knew who this assclown was.
But as usual, the majority of people took him at face value, took what the media said at face value, and went with it.
The country got hood-winked. And the Dems got their little wet dream brought into reality...
“...DNC Freak Show....”
To quote David Byrne: “Same as it ever was...same as it ever was....same as it ever was...”
Yes, I agree with you which is part of why I am scratching my head over it now. I know the polls are oversampling Democrats and that they seek to make news rather than just reflect it but generally as we get close to elections they are fairly accurate. In 2010, they were predicting a huge gain for the Good Guys and we got it.
I would just feel a lot more confident if we were up by 10. I drive by people with BHO stickers on their cars and just look at them in amazement. Seriously? Not only are you VOTING for him again but you have a new sticker on your car to trumpet it? Yikes.
” To quote David Byrne: Same as it ever was...same as it ever was....same as it ever was...”
Obama: “ This is not my beautiful house” (rented)
” This is not my beautiful wife” (No $heet : )
Because the alternative is a billionaire felon, who belongs to a cult, won't pay his taxes or his employee's health care, ties puppies to the roof of his car, and is obviously a racist (he's white).
Also, folks are always reluctant to admit that they made a very stupid, ill-advised mistake (i.e., voting for BO in 2008).
It'll get better as folks wake up to reality.
Living here in NJ, I’m pleasantly surprised to see almost NO Obama bumper stickers (there were a lot in 2008); NJ has apparently been written off by many on this site, but I’m telling you things are really bad here, and it might be sufficient to cost Obama the state. The election of Chris Christie one year after Obama won NJ was a real indicator of how bad things had become in NJ; our property taxes, already among the highest in the nation, were increasing so much annually that many companies and Americans were fleeing the state. Property values will probably recover last here, since even the stabilized taxes are high for people earning “new normal” wages; businesses are closing down, and the only growth areas are tattoo parlors, laundromats, and check cashing places. Even tenured teachers were being laid off if they were too close to the bottom in the “last in, first out” environment; those public workers let go know there will not be hiring here for years to come.
Again, just hoping it should be enough...
Then all the six-figure union thugs in the audience can growl back and pretend they have a legitimate grievance somewhere that needs fixing.
Nice ads :)
I see them as “The Psychopath Party”.
Mentally unbalanced, unstable, sociopathic, and potentially dangerous.
Always keep in mind that a close race is in the
medias interest, it’s all about ratings.
