The number of Americans whom the U.S. Department of Labor counted as not in the civilian labor force in August hit a record high of 88,921,000.
The Labor Department counts a person as not in the civilian labor force if they are...

Hope and Change! And Obama and the Dems think we need to continue down the same road.
Well, that explains why Øbama’s speech was subdued last night: he knew the numbers were going to come in bad.
but they look good.
So, we LOST 119,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate went DOWN? This is insanity.
they always post the number of people leaving the workforce
I would like to find out how many retirees that includes
all my POS legeral friends say the number leaving is mostly people retiring
Record 88,921,000 Americans Not in Labor Force
This is a tragedy.
It’s called mythematics.
If only one person has a job and everyone else has “left the labor force,” according to this bunch of Marxists, we will have 0% unemployment. Happy days are here again!
Only a total moron can’t see through these fraudulent employment numbers.
So THAT’s how lefties lower unemployment!
I understand why the labor participation rate can make the U3 index go down even while the job market gets worse. But my question is.... “Does anybody remember this phenomenon occurring in any previous administration”? Were there times in the Bush administration when the unemployment rate went the opposite direction of job market? Anybody remember?
If the Roosevelt Administration had cooked the books like the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) does today we would not speak of the GREAT DEPRESSION OF THE 1930s.*
Tried to check the BLS “U-6,” which provides a more complete tally of how many people really are out of work... received a message that it was not available....very convenient for the regime, no?
I think you will find that most of those on unemployment who were looking for work found a job before their unemployment expired under previous recent Presidents.
Any idea how many new “disability” claims were posted last month?
I took a look at the BLS numbers... and other than the “unemployment drops to 8.1%” lede, it’s uniformly bad news.
Population grew by 212,000 people, but the labor force dropped by 368,000 people. If we assume that ~60% of the population normally participates in the labor force, that’s more like a -495,000 drop in labor force size.
The number of people employed was down by 119,000.
The number of unemployed went down by 250,000, but that’s less than the total loss in workforce size. So, the entire reduction can be laid as a result of a drop in the number of people in the workforce, and that still left another almost 120,000 people out of work.
BUSHES FAULT!!! SARC!
The should be the msm headline. Lowest total working since the 70s. Turn msnbc and cnbc and it’s party time. Percent went down, nothing about all those not working. “great news”. “markets are doing great”. Nothing about net job loss. At least CNN and Fox are getting it right.
NBC will never turn on Obama. They pay no taxes. I consider them an Obama SuperPAC.
A month or two ago the numbers showed that more went on disability than jobs were created. This follows a pattern btw that was rampant in western Europe a decade or two ago. I think it was Holland or maybe Denmark, that hit 20% disabled at one point.
