Canada's Conservative government said Friday it is shutting its embassy in Tehran and severing diplomatic relations with Iran, which Canada says is providing military assistance to Syria.

Foreign Affairs Minister John Baird said that the Canadian embassy in Tehran will close immediately and Iranian diplomats in Canada have been given five days to leave.

Baird, who serves in a government that is a staunch ally of Israel, said Iran is the most significant threat to global peace and security in the world today.

Ummm, nooo, from Def Min Ehud Barak himself.

Too much chatter lately that an attack is imminent. They have to do something to disinform.

Glad somebody read that.

The US could be energy independent in a very short time. In two years or less the US could be independent on energy from outside North America.

If Romney wins, he will be able to immediately affect the price of gasoline and all other energy products, if he wants to. Three easy steps.

1) Approve the Keystone Pipeline.

2) End the "boutique blend" madness.

3) Start drilling everywhere, Alaska, the gulf, federal lands, off both coasts.

Would you like to be holding a lot of oil in storage or in the form of futures contracts if the president took these steps and showed he was serious about getting energy costs down? I wouldn't. The longs would start selling, the shorts would start shorting and the prices would collapse. As a bonus, the Iranians and the Russians would be screwed. Jobs would be immediately created and the economy would soar.

That embassy of ours in Tehran must be like a time capsule inside. Probably three or our inches of dust. I wonder what it looks like now inside.

Pretty sad when Canada’s government is more Conservative than ours. WTF

Of course, the dems DID want to kick God out of their platform and pretty much kicked Israel in the butt...

I’ve been thinking the same thing.

Canada is now having to vie for lead Western Nation, because our Pussy in Chief, can’t pull his head out long enough to do so?

Shaking head...

I used to say Obama is full of s—t. Now I just say he’s full of himself. Same difference, and I don’t offend anyone.

Posting on the run is never a good thing.

How about: “The phase of the moon is not important THOUGH it is best to fly the mission in total darkness.”

What I was getting at, the technology we and the Israeli's have are not affected by light of day, night, or anything in-between. That said, it is best to fly in total darkness though not required.

The US Embassy had a commissary where I used to do all of the bulk shopping during the 2 years that I was in Iran (Aug 1977 - May 1979). I was an interesting place to get to as it was surrounded by alleys. The courtyard of the Embassy was probably just large enough to get 1 CH53 in there by a straight descent, not much room for much else.

Great. Does Canada happen to have any aircraft or helicarriers? If the US doesn’t have our (Israel’s) back, we’ll take what we can get.

I'm not sure how long you've been out of the country, but the Jewish vote, formerly solidly Liberal, moved strongly to the Conservatives in the last federal election. An exit poll showed it at 52%. I'm not sure it's possible to measure such a thing so precisely, but at the very least it appears that Jewish Canadians now vote Conservative in approximately the same proportion as other English-speaking Canadians.

And yet Jewish people here in the US vote 85% Rat.Two countries,so close and yet so far away on at least one noteworthy issue.

2) End the "boutique blend" madness.

That might not fly in our Federal courts.I'm a big believer in states' rights but when it comes to anything concerning energy (which, for us,*is* a matter of *national security*) all laws/regulations should come from DC and apply to the *entire* nation.

(Hear that,California tree worshipers,I just told you to go bleep yourselves)

I believe the Bush administration temporarily ended "boutique blends" during a previous price spike. Nobody died.

Impediments and mandates to the refining process do nothing but add costs. The US and Canada have a huge advantage in energy costs compared to other nations. Energy costs affect every manufactured product. Labor might be cheaper elsewhere, but energy, outside of the mid east, should be cheapest here. The mid east doesn't count because they have virtually no manufacturing base and no desire to build one.

No, no carriers since the 1960's.

But I know one Canadian who would not object to a squadron of RCAF CF-18's and a couple of RCN frigates to help Israel secure your airspace and sea approaches. I know one president who would be furious, though.
