Skip to comments. The Party that Obama Un-Built: Where is the next generation of Democrats?

Julian Castro is no Barack Obama. And for that, Democrats have themselves to blame.
The focus of this week's Democratic convention was President Obama. Lost in the adulation was the diminished state to which he has brought his broader party. Today's Democrats are a shadow of 2008struggling for re-election, isolated to a handful of states, lacking reform ideas, bereft of a future political bench. It has been a stunning slide...
In 2006, Nancy Pelosi muzzled her liberal inclinations to recruit and elect her "Majority Makers"a crop of moderate and conservative Democrats who won Republican districts and delivered control of the House for the first time in 14 years...
By 2009, President Obama presided over what could fairly be called a big-tent coalition. The Blue Dog caucus had swelled to 51 members, representing plenty of conservative America. Democrats held the majority of governorships. Mr. Obama had won historic victories in Virginia and North Carolina. The prediction of liberal demographers John Judis and Ruy Teixeira's 2004 book, "The Emerging Democratic Majority"lasting progressive dominance...
While the party's most vulnerable members aren't in outright mutiny against Mr. Obama, more than two dozen didn't risk attending the convention. In contrast to last week's GOP celebration of reformist GOP governors, the Charlotte podium was largely dominated by activists (Sandra Fluke, Lilly Ledbetter), the liberal congressional faithful (Mrs. Pelosi, Harry Reid), and urban mayors from failing states (Los Angeles's Antonio Villaraigosa, Chicago's Rahm Emanuel).
While the GOP has feted its upcoming starsincluding minority governors like New Mexico's Susana Martinez and Louisiana's Bobby Jindalthe president has done little to nurture his down-ballot partners. Where is the next generation of Democrats?

How has he unbuilt the party? Every dang party member is doubling down on worship, and any one of them is more qualified to lead than this twerp was. Hell, they’re tens of millions deep on replacements for this ass.
Lest we get the idea the party is going to change, let’s recall their lineup.
This is like one of those IQ test question where they ask you which number is next.
In this case it’s 0, -5, -10, -15, -20, -25... now which number is next?
Osama Bin Laden is dead, so it’s not as easy as one might think. Whoever it turns out to be, we can rest assured that the next figure will be a -30. It certainly isn’t going to be a positive figure out of the blue.
“Where is the next generation of Democrats?”
They were fetuses. And now they’re gone.
From the above post Dems won big by recruiting DINOs (Blue Dogs ) and then afterward slowly purging the few that survived the 2010 election.
With Boehner in the House and Obama in the WH Dems seem to have complete control of their members unlike Republicans.
This is interesting.
I didn’t watch either convention in their entirety. But the parts I did watch, I noticed this.
The Pubs had a good mix of young, well spoken, ethnically mixed “up and coming” politicians.
Yeah, they threw McCain in the mix..whatever.
The Dems seemed to rely on their “old white guys and gals” with a few young angry non-politicians or “used to be politicians.”
Although the audiences were very different...I can’t help but wonder if the complexion of things might be changing.
This was a good article. The dems did throw all those blue dogs under the bus.
and why? Well, because of abortion of course.
It’s abortion uber alles with these people and I can barely believe they are tripling down on it now.
Hey ladies! Which would you rather have, an abortion or a j.o.b.?
Its funny that this article emerged. I was thinking this same thing yesterday - where are the rising stars in the Democratic Party? All they had at the convention were has beens for the most part. And zero said it was like watching b&w tv with the Republicans - no, dear leader - its your party that is in the b&w mode.
There are plenty of young guns rising in the Republican party.
47 million foodstamp users
20 million illegals
30 million Obamacare participants coming
Sounds like a whole lot of loyal Dem voters to me.
I did listen to Castro.
He seemed to be the best they had to offer. Putting aside content, he gave a decent speech.
But, ya know what? It’s a big stretch for a mayor of a city in a Republican state to go to national prominence.
Of course crazy things happen...but that would be a stretch, even in the monied world of politics.
You just put my fears in four short lines.
“Where is the next generation of Democrats?”
In a beer hall in Munich!
“They were fetuses. And now theyre gone.”
Nonsense; they are the anchor babies being born in hospitals across this country, as well as being delivered by midwives down in Mexico, as we speak and post. We’ve been killing our babies for 40 years now, and the Dems are alive & kicking; if anything, the Repubs need to look at their birthrate issues - they are surrendering the country demographically.
They are also children of conservatives being brainwashed by public schools, TV, films and Pop-Music.
This article is a joke. After four years of miserable failure in just about everything, especially youth and young adult employment, Obama is easily still the choice of under-thirty voters by almost a 2-1 ratio. Obviously, the liberal-leftist Dem (or Dim) view of America still holds enormous appeal for America’s yutes.
OMG.....sadly you are so right....they are DEAD....LITERALLY.
They've been aborted - and good riddance.
“They are also children of conservatives being brainwashed by public schools, TV, films and Pop-Music.”
True; that’s a good point.
Uhhhh, in dumpsters behind abortion clinics?
He'll have to follow the Henry Cisneros path: mayor, followed by appointments to federal posts in a Democrat administration.
Henry's done well for himself financially, but he hasn't been heard from in years.
