Poll: Obama widens lead over Romney despite jobs data

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama, picking up support following the Democratic National Convention, widened his narrow lead over Republican U.S. presidential challenger Mitt Romney in a new Reuters/Ipsos poll released on Saturday.

The latest daily tracking poll showed Obama, a Democrat, with a lead of 4 percentage points over Romney. Forty-seven percent of 1,457 likely voters surveyed online over the previous four days said they would vote for Obama if the November 6 elections were held today, compared with 43 percent for Romney.

"The bump is actually happening. I know there was some debate whether it would happen... but it's here," said Ipsos pollster Julia Clark, referring to the "bounce" in support that many presidential candidates enjoy after nominating conventions.

Obama had leapfrogged Romney in the daily tracking poll on Friday with a lead of 46 percent to 44 percent.

He's hitting the numbers but it's not being polled honestly. The media already knew McLame didn't have a chance so they reported his true numbers off the bat.

Minds are made up and have been since 2010. Looking at almost every mid-term election, special elections and other agenda votes, I don't see Romney losing.

I think you may be right. The slackers assume Obama will extend the dole for longer than Romney will.

They are probably right about that.

I think these polls are right. They just show how stupid the voting populace is. My parents who are retired love obama. Ive asked them why they love him and they have no answer other than how stupid the republican are. It makes me sad how politically ignorant my parents are. Ive even pleaded with my parents to vote thinking of their only granddaughters future. Even that won’t sway their demoncrat party line voting.

Au contraire. When you look at how the poll sampling was done in 08, vs. the splits now, Romney is well ahead of McCain. In the ARG poll two days ago, Romney was up 10 in the “real” weighted sample and up five using Dem weights.

Ras doesn’t expect Obama’s number to stay up. Moreover, the swing state poll Ras did had Romney up in every state.

Perhaps what you should be observing is the fact that except for one pretty jimmied RV poll and one +13 Dem sample poll, Obama can’t get anywhere close to 50%.

Thanks for saving me the trouble of looking for that.....

The closer we get to end. the more important the "Likely voter" polls become and the "Register voter" polls become inaccurate.....

The polls aren't right. They are trying to push the notion that Obama is benefiting from the convention but I guarantee there is no more than 2% undecided pre and post conventions.

“My plan is to vote for Romney, and let the chips fall where they may. I am at peace. If Obama should win, it’s over.”

_Exactly_. FR never liked MR, but that was during the primary season and it’s time to get over it. People on here who continue to run him into the ground and claim that Newt Gingrich was electable are falling for the DNC Kool Aid, which is to demoralize you so you don’t go out and vote.

You don’t want to see Barry reelected. You really don’t. There is no telling what he has planned for his second term. Abolish term limits and rule as an emperor for the next 30 years? Make another push at single payer HC? Who knows. I would rather not find out.

Obama increased his lead over Romney in certain favorable characteristics. Asked who was more "eloquent," 50 percent of the 1,720 registered voters questioned in the poll favored Obama, compared to 25 percent for Romney. Asked about being "smart enough for the job," 46 percent sided with Obama compared to 37 percent for Romney.

In fact, Obama led Romney in a dozen such favorable characteristics, such as "represents America" or "has the right values." The only such category in which Romney had an advantage was being "a man of faith," as 44 percent picked Romney, who is Mormon, compared to 31 percent for Obama, who is Christian.

I want to see the internals on this poll but I'll take it from these comments above that this poll was very heavily sampled toward Democrats......

These “polls’ are nothing but camouflage so that when the Ratz and commie pigs steal the election, they can use this BS for cover.

To: thingumbob; All

i went to the Ipsos main site- they don’t even have this poll on their main page...last poll they have is from yesterday

http://www.ipsos-na.com/news-polls/us/2012-election/

oh, and btw- if you click on to their poll from Friday there’s no polling data but the following claimer:

“The data were weighted to the U.S. current population data by gender, age, education, and ethnicity. Statistical margins of error are not applicable to online polls. All sample surveys and polls may be subject to other sources of error, including, but not limited to coverage error and measurement error. Figures marked by an asterisk (*) indicate a percentage value of greater than zero but less than one half of a per cent. Where figures do not sum to 100, this is due to =the effects of rounding.”

there’s no link in the story to the polling data...

Of course not. You think they want you to see the +20 point Democrat oversample???!?

Good old Reuters... the MSNBC of the news feed world.

I agree 100%, and I believe Newt Gingrich would, too. The stakes never have been this high. If Obama wins, it's over.
