President Barack Obama heads out of the national political conventions with a much clearer path to winning, top advisers to Mitt Romney privately concede.
The Romney campaign, while pleasantly surprised by Obamas lackluster prime-time performance, said the post-convention bounce they hoped for fell well short of expectations and privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers most glaringly in Ohio are working in the presidents favor.

I read this (link from Drudge). I’m stunned. But it’s very believable.
I cannot fathom that these guys went this risky and now are stuck with a hope and prayer. God help us. I have never been more down today. I need to give it a rest and watch some football.
Why would the Romney campaign be giving inside information to Politico?
Me too its very depressing. If people want Communism I dont know what can be said. I never thought in my lifetime instead of a Capitalist society we would end up living in a Communist one
It’s tough to run against a nanny state in a nation full of foreigners and illegal aliens. America has become the Great Pinata. Bash away and the goodies fall out.
I’m inclined to believe it, unfortunately. I also believe Romney can pull it out.
I don’t believe it. If Romney aids are pleased with the lackluster Obama speech, they would not be concerned about state polls right now. They have not even began to campaign aggressively. . They chose specifically to play nice in the convention just a week ago. They didn’t even try to go after Obama nor begin laying out the specific agenda. If they were concerned about polls, they would not have chosen the strategy they did. They were doing what they did for the long view....to counter he democratic narratives and present a better view of Mitt. It was building a base for the next two months. A losing campaign would have gone a whole different direction.
Sabotage... or disinformation.
If this were true why was Biden in Ohio today?
I agree. The risky part in my post (was getting defined all summer and then waiting too long to reply). The only thing I can think of is they didn’t get the bounce they were hoping for from Ryan/convention and are now stuck playing catch up from much further behind than anticipated. Unreal.
“privately lament that state-by-state polling numbers most glaringly in Ohio are working in the presidents favor.”
that’s funny because according to RCP the Ohio numbers are trending towards Romney is recent polling:
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/oh/ohio_romney_vs_obama-1860.html
and the Quinn/See BS poll from 8/1 oversampled rats by 8%:

Also notice that they are focusing on VA, WI, OH, IA, NV. These are two must win swing saws and some ‘nice to wins’ Obama is back to IA for the third time in a three week period, NH, and FL. He’s trying to sew up his core states that he should have in the bag . FL is not on Romney’s radar this week,,,Obama is making an effort to save it as he is down. Obama is working from behind.
I think it’s wrong to say that people are choosing a Communist system. What they’re choosing is freebies—lots of them—and a “live for today” mindset that is reflected in both the fiscal policies and the social policies of the Democratic party. Notice what the Dems highlighted at their convention? They LOVE abortion and gay sex, and they hate God. That pretty much sums up where we are as a country.
Why is Drudge pushing this story?
Doesn’t comport at all with Ras’s swing state poll, or ANY demographic within any of the polls, but, it must be true cause this is Politico. It never lies.
I don't believe the bit in the article about Ohio, though, obviously, I'm no expert. My own guess is that if Romney were that far back, he'd be living here, or Paul Ryan would be. The last several statewide polls have shown things pretty much tied, and that seems about right.
The race sure looks like a tie at this point, but Romney has to overcome the incumbency and racial advantages that Obama enjoys.
Well, if Mitt’s “top advisors” have already conceded, I guess I don’t need to send any money to his campaign. I’m glad they told me this. I’ll send it to somebody else.
Maybe they needed some laughs today in Ohio...
We got a couple of October Surprises to go through, so things ain’t settled yet.
