Follow-up to an earlier story at Free Republic: Farm worker and wife arrested after burglars shot

"The poorest man may in his cottage bid defiance to all the forces of the Crown. It may be frail — its roof may shake — the wind may blow through it — the storm may enter — the rain may enter — but the King of England cannot enter — all his force dares not cross the threshold of the ruined tenement!

-William Pitt the Elder, Speech on the Excise Bill, House of Commons (March 1763).

Some in the modern UK have apparently amended this so burglars and thieves may enter. Fortunately, not quite everyone agrees.

Major civil rights violation. Spouses have legal privilege.

“The couple are hoping to emigrate to Australia to start a new life. Any criminal convictions would have wrecked their chances of visas.”

That is just so wrong.

Self defense is a crime in a tyranny

Clockwork Orange looks like common sense sometimes

...he was told a possible charge against him had been upgraded from GBH to attempted murder.

A question for the Brits among us... what is GBH?

Based on my reading of British mysteries, I believe GBH is something like Grievous Bodily Harm

ASTOUNDING that anyone there defends their ‘system’. Sure, we have our problems, but in much (a growing) of this country, the cops like it when we plug the bad guys.

It’s little surprise that the pansy English are more concerned with the rights of murderous thugs than they are normal people. Did they expect him to defend himself against four thugs by surrendering himself to them and offering them tea? Then again, these are the same people who cowered and did nothing to stop the V2 rockets from scorching their land until America came along.

Let's not go overboard here.

It's a good thing 1776 happened.

Hopefully 2012 will also happen and keep 1776 from being a waste of time.

What good is going to Australia? Didn’t they pass a gun control law after that maniac killed 25 people at a tourist vacation spot?

We overran the launch sites and bombed the crap out of Peenemunde and Friedrichshafen, you pretentious wuss.

In any case: the V2 program was an expensive failure and a misallocation of materials that actually served to shorten the war in the Allies favour.

Seriously: you should open a history book instead of serially-masturbating in front of war-films.

Great Bodily Harm probably.

When are Brits going to realize you need to kill the criminal, preferably quietly, and just bury them...
