CHARLOTTE, N.C. - As buoyant Democratic delegates head home from their three-day convention here to nominate President Obama for a second term, party officials and advisors are sweating the reality that the 2008 hope and change thrill is gone--and so might be Obama's voting majority.
While Obama and Mitt Romney remain locked in public polls, several Democratic officials are worried that three groups that pushed Obama over the finish line in 2008--younger voters, seniors and "Walmart" white women--are as frustrated as other groups about the economy and Obama's failure to change Washington and might stay home.
In other words, they say, the polls lie. Yes, when called by pollsters, the nation is split, but the GOP appears more eager and willing to follow through and vote than the Democrats.
During an event hosted by National Journal/Atlantic her this week, Democratic pollster Celinda Lake cited an "enthusiasm gap" with younger voters and unmarried women and seniors. Former Clinton aide Maria Echaveste said that "too many [Obama supporters] are not engaged." And micro-targeting expert Laura Quinn said younger voters especially are "not motivated as they need be."

Of course no one would even consider that they might vote for Romney/Ryan.
Unmentioned were the gullible white Target women who vote according to the known consensus and know nothing of reality except the consensus.
Perhaps there is no consensus and they will end up not voting rather than making a decision on their own
“micro-targeting expert Laura Quinn”....And, how did she become an “expert”? She studied Karl Rove.
I have to tell you, as a voter here in Nevada, it feels like that we’re trapped in some massive psyops competition of which campaign will be the most successful at keeping the other campaign’s base at home, and it switches every other day.
“the GOP appears more eager and willing to follow through and vote than the Democrats. “
Many of us have installed backyard pathways made of broken glass to practice for November.
Many of those White Target women are now the sole breadwinners in their families because their husbands have lost their jobs. They hopefully will realize that the crushing burden of debt loaded onto American families by Obama is crushing this economy. If these women lose their jobs, they will lose their homes, and they will be poor. Reality bites.
“They cite an August Washington Post/ABC News poll that only 78 percent of the president’s 2008 supporters back him now. By comparison, 91 percent of Sen. John McCain’s backers support Romney.”
From Dave Leip’s numbers:http://uselectionatlas.org/RESULTS/, Romney wins in a squeaker!
.78 x 69,499,482= 54,209,596 (Obama)
.91 x 59,950,323= 54,554,794(Romney)
I just don’t understand it. What does it take for dems to vote R this time when we have all this bad economic news?
It’s as if okay, gas is higher, food is higher, clothes and shelter is higher, but wages are lower and jobs are scarce.
Meanwhile the debt grows and a 16K page healthcare bill was passed that will corrupt our medical system and choices, along with the insane cost.
What are these people thinking voting for this turd again? I know they all can’t be on the public dole or working for the federal government.
I don’t think either side is going to be posting their candidates signs in their front yards, unless its an armory.
The polls too are walking on hot coals here, they don’t want to prematurely antagonize the sullen dejected inner city denizens that have grown addicted to the Federal Free everything all must share agenda.
The first polling group that actually does show the truth and then sees news of unrest will immediately just announce a dead heat.
In summary the polls as usual will be rigged, not to sway voters in any direction but to actually keep the masses calm.
Polls will be totally useless as usual and may now thankfully become extinct.
That formula applied to OH, VA, FL and CO would be more revealing. I think R needs to take them to win.
Well, take away deaths, etc,it would provide some estimate of the “likely voter” pool, as these are the people with a track record of actually voting. I think it amounts to the same kind of measure as Obama filling Mile High stadium in ‘08 vs. having to move it inside in ‘12. I think it’s also likely total voter turnout won’t match 2008 at 130m , possibly even the turnout in ‘04 at 120 m.
Staying home is good.
If would be Obama voters stay home by the hundreds of thousands or millions, I am okay with that.
I reckon those polls are designed to stir drama. If they showed lopsided results like they should...in Romney’s favor...then all the drama would be gone and no one would pay attention to the whoring media. All a sham in my opinion.
Look at detroit’s leaders and you have your answer.
Anecdotal, but I know a recent grad school graduate who avidly voted for Obama in ‘08 and cannot find a job. This person has decided he can’t support Obama again but his conscience won’t let him vote Romney, so he’s just not going to vote at all.
Simply impossible. Don’t you know all the “sky-is-falling” types tell us that Zero is ahead in a couple of polls?
A friend of mine is one of those women. She’s still trying to make up her mind. She wants to hear both sides (by listening to one sided news - CBS morning show and Oprah’s girlfriend, Gayle King.)
Never mind that on each indidvidual issue of the day the contrasts are already starkly different. Abortion. Marriage redefinition. Taxes. Redistribution of wealth.
Never mind gas prices at $4 and unemployment almost 10%. Let’s just ignore that and wait to hear what Gayle wants her to do.
She also thinks that Michelle Obama is gorgeous and you can tell that she works out because she’s so in shape. (Yes, well spandex girdles will do that for you.)
TRUE unemployment is in the neighborhood of 19-20%...there are MILLIONS who have given up; and they aren’t even counted. This ‘8%’ figure is complete and utter bullsh*t.
“What are these people thinking voting for this turd again? I know they all cant be on the public dole or working for the federal government.”
They are stuck on stupid.
I am starting to worry about these undecideds. How could you be undecided at this point? 96k jobs? Pitiful. This seems to be the ostrich head in the sand demo. They just don't want to hear how bad it is.
This leads me to believe that a lot of these "undecided" folks are going to vote for the kenyan again and just don't want the facts. That puts us in deep trouble.
Yep. She loved Romney after the GOP convention. But then she loved Michelle and Clinton after the dem convention.
She loved Ryan until she heard CBS ‘fact check’ him.
She’s like a tennis ball. Back and forth. I don’t know how the GOP is going to breakthrough to these people.
Her husband is an engineer and she thinks the economy is doing just fine.
No matter what I say to her - she can’t hear me. Abortion up to 9 months? kill born-alive babies who survive? Obama voting 4 times to make that law? She can’t hear me. Never mind she’s a Catholic in her pew every Sunday. She told me she wants to see what the Catholic paper has to say about that. Seriously - that’s what she said. Priests are not doing their job if any Catholic doesn’t know the position of the Church on abortion and particularly late term abortion.
Religious freedom issues. The Catholic church being forced to pay for contraceptions and abortions. Nope. Doesn’t phase her.
Nothing I say to her matters. She thinks the TV tells her the truth. Obamacare? Well, it doesn’t sound like it’s good but who’s to say Romney will overturn it? I said, well, we know Obama won’t overturn it. So if you think it needs to be overturned you have no choice but to vote for Romney because if congress sends Romney a bill to overturn it, he probably will. She’s a fence sitter. And she thinks she’s informed. CBS told her she is.
She lives her life as a conservative. Raised her children to be moral. They were boyscouts and girlscouts up until they graduated high school. I honestly don’t know what planet these people are living on. In front of their eyes their country is being transformed and they are oblivious.
“Never mind shes a Catholic in her pew every Sunday.”
Meaningless. Ted Kennedy was a “catholic.”
That’s probably why they trotted Caroline Kennedy out to put Cardinal Dolan in his place. The 50 year Princess of Camelot disagrees with her Chuch and so therefore it is safe for other Target-shopper white women to do so too.
Lets be honest. We’ve never had a worse pair of candidates. Romney is a flip-flopper when it comes to his words but whose actual record is very liberal and Obama is the single most dangerous person we’ve ever had in the White House. There is no question that Mitt Romney is the better of the two but I can’t recall ever being less excited about the person i’m casting my vote for. Even McCain and Bush I were better.
