Boo-hoo.

One of the benefits of cutting off diplomatic relations with Iran and imposing economic sanctions is that the Canadian government can now go after Iranian government money and assets here.

Somehow I doubt that all these monies are student loans, and that all their recipients are innocent students struggling to make ends meet.

If not, the Iranian embassy still had quite a hold on their students to do the Iranian government's bidding or lose their money. Otherwise, why would the Iranian embassy have been signing their cheques?

Iranian international students

International students? So the term "foreign students" has somehow become politically incorrect.

Not sure about the loyalties of these "students" but I'd bet the farm that the Mad Mullahs screened them pretty carefully and all are true "believers" (of the Religion of Pieces) and it the Canuks were smart, they would give them the boot as well.

No doubt Dear Reader would welcome fellow Islamists with open arms.

Importantly, during the Cold War, it was known that the Soviets would base espionage operations in a country next to the target country. There are all sorts of advantages to doing so. And this was why the Soviet “Canadian Interests Section” was enormous, because it was used to spy on America.

However, long before then, just after World War I, the RCMP had busted up a large communist effort to overthrow the Canadian government, which made the RCMP develop a top notch counterintelligence branch.

This prevented any Nazi efforts in Canada during WWII, and with the Cold War, the counterintelligence branch went into overdrive, working hand in glove with the US intelligence agencies against the Soviet threat.

In any event, the Iranians probably had similar plans, to use Canada as a staging area to attack the US. But this really gums up the works, as it could result in hundreds of al-Quds fighters being told to go home.

Of course, many may try to claim refugee status, but this won’t fly because they were there for a long time on student visas, and said nothing about being refugees.

So, buh-bye to Canada.

You’re totally correct.
Many “students” there are not students at all, even if they attend colleges and universities.
I suspect & have heard over the yrs that there are more than a few affiliates & associates of Iranian officials who have significant investments in Canada. Rafsanjani is an obvious one.
I wish many more western countries would do what Canada has done & cut off diplomatic & trade ties with Iran. Sanctions as they stand do not hurt the regime much.
