PPP: Obama leads by 5 in Ohio (50-45)
PPP ^ | 09/09/2012

Posted on 09/09/2012 8:40:57 PM PDT by SeekAndFind

PPP's first post-conventions poll in Ohio finds Barack Obama with a 5 point lead over Mitt Romney, 50-45. This is the largest lead PPP has found for Obama in an Ohio poll since early May. Last month Obama led 48-45.

Both candidates have seen their images improve with Ohio voters in the wake of the conventions. Obama now breaks even in his approval rating at 48%, after being under water with 46% of voters approving and 51% disapproving of him a month ago. Romney's numbers are up from a 41/52 favorability rating a month ago as well, but he still remains unpopular. Only 44% see him favorably to 49% with a negative opinion.

Romney actually leads 46-44 with independents but Obama has the overall advantage thanks to a more unified party base. He leads 86/11 with Democrats, compared to Romney's 83/13 advantage with Republicans. Obama's 75 point lead within his own party is up from 70 points a month ago, suggesting that his party has coalesced around him a little bit more in the wake of a successful convention. By a 47/35 margin Ohio voters say they think the Democrats had a better convention than the Republicans.

Obama's leading in Ohio because he's not as weak there with some large voter blocs as he is in other states. He trails only 48-46 with men and 50-46 with whites, and actually leads 49-47 with seniors. His performance with those groups is far better than it is nationally- Romney would need much wider leads with them if he was going to take Ohio.

Despite chatter that Obama's convention speech was not up to his normal standards Ohio voters still say by a 60-31 margin that Obama gives better speeches than Romney. His position in the state may also be helped by the fact that the folks who gave the major convention speeches Tuesday night are more popular than he is: Bill Clinton has a 57/34 favorability rating and Michelle Obama's is 57/35. Romney's wife is an asset for him too- 54% of voters see Ann Romney favorably with 28% holding an unfavorable opinion. But Mrs. Obama wins out in the more popular wife category by a 49/41 margin. Out of the other Democrats who gave primetime speeches last week Julian Castro made the most positive impression and has a 28/17 favorability rating. Voters are split on Elizabeth Warren at 23/23 and Martin O'Malley doesn't seem to have attracted much attention with 86% of Ohioans saying they have no opinion about him one way or the other.

It's hard to see a path to victory for Mitt Romney without Ohio, and Obama continues to be in a strong position there with eight weeks to go.

C'mon, PPP, at least try to find some good data. Romney with a 2 point lead among independents, when every other pollster on the planet shows him leading by 15-20 points? And then, there is this:

Obama's leading in Ohio because he's not as weak there with some large voter blocs as he is in other states. He trails only 48-46 with men and 50-46 with whites

Absolute, unadulterated, bullcrap. There is no way Obama has anywhere close to those numbers with men and white voters.

I think it's entirely possible that Obama has a slight lead here, but nothing like 5 points. I would note, BTW, that PPP's final call of the Wisconsin recall showed Walker winning by 3 points, and his margin was closer to 7 points; the PPP pollsters are not known for being accurate.

It would actually be best for everyone to stop listening to you - you are miserable and just trying to make everyone else miserable for the heck of it. I remember your type running around here in 2000 and 2004 as well.

The party % breakdown from the Democrat polling company PPP:

"Q18 If you are a Democrat, press 1. If a Republican, press2.
If you're an independent or identify with another party, press 3.

Demrat ......................41%
Republican.................37%
Independent/Other.....22% "

Will this be the percentages for Ohio who vote on November 6th?

I doubt it.

Another BS democrat-dominated poll. Move along. Nothing to see here.

If Rasmussen is correct with his numbers on party identification Romney is probable up a couple points in Ohio.

Romney and Ryan are practically camped out in Virginia. In fact, they are working out top three swing states and blue states that they are close or even You are full of it.

Romney’s internals have Obama up 8. Romney has given up on PA. VA and FL are still leaning O’Idiot (barely). This one is toast. Hang in there til 2016 and never, ever, ever listen again to those GOP elite morons.

I know for a fact true internals have Romney up by 4 in Florida.

North Carolina is not a swing state over for Obama.

Remember Carter was up by 4 Points versus Reagan and I know Romney is no Reagan but as Rasumeen said its Romney's to lose

Kerry would have been President (and John Edwards VP) had he garnered an extra couple of thousand votes in OH.

Hardly...he lost it by about 118,000 votes.

Hard to see Romney winning in Ohio. I understand the Kasich is hated there and Republicans are highly unpopular. Where Scott Walker succeeded, Kasich failed.

Even though this poll is pure BS of the first degree, because if skews towards democrats, it will be the talk of the news shows in the morning, even Fox News. This, coupled with Gallup’s latest numbers, will be all the talk you hear tomorrow. Romney might as well slit his wrists, the race is over for all intends and purposes. Listen to the media, and you will be drove crazy tomorrow about the Kenyan’s BOUNCE, versus no bounce for Romney. As for me I’ll watch Gunsmoke reruns for the next few days.

LOL...One of the questions. Is this insane?

Q15 Who do you think deserves more credit for the killing of Osama bin Laden: Barack Obama or Mitt Romney?
Barack Obama................................................63%
Mitt Romney.................................................... 6%
Not sure .......................................................... 31%

I agree Obama will most likely win this one.

I disagree about 2016. By then there will be so many receiving government help that they would be too afraid risk jumping ships to a candidate who focus more on the private sector.

The only other option would be for the 2016 republican candidate to try to run TO THE LEFT of the democrat candidate. We do NOT want that.

We either win this one or lose at least the next few. We could be out for more than a decade. And by the time they do decide to vote for a conservative it will be a very ugly place to live in this nation of ours. Most likely by that time Americans will have found other places to live outside this country. It will NOT be a pretty picture.

Obama’s not the only one winning. The liberals are winning BIG TIME too. The fruits of their labor will begin showing in Congress by 2014 and 2016.

This election is very important.

I understand the Kasich is hated there and Republicans are highly unpopular.

You "understand" incorrectly, on both counts, and I feel confident that Romney will carry the state. BTW, Kasich failed at nothing - he came into office with an $8 billion budget shortfall and balanced it without raising taxes. Ohio is currently leading the nation in job creation, to boot.

What's wrong with so many Ohioans? You have to have a lame brain to think that.

So, how does everyone have the Team Romney internals???? Aren’t the called internals because only those in the camp see them, not the public?.......Just wondering
