Kara Pavelich, the wife of former U.S. Olympic hockey and NHL star Mark Pavelich, died Thursday, Sept. 6, at their Lutsen, Minn., home when she accidentally fell approximately 20 feet from a second-story balcony that has no railing. She was 44.
Cook County Sheriff Mark Falk said Saturday that deputies were called to the Pavelich home at 11:32 a.m. Thursday. It is likely that Kara Pavelich was on the balcony seeking better cell phone reception; a cell phone was found beside her. The death is being considered accidental.

I'm guessing it wasn't up to code.
Phone should’ve bounced away after hitting the floor, and should’ve broke quite a bit. It being next to hear sounds fishy.
I know how this sounds, and I love hockey, but thinking logically, well, the phone shouldn’t be next to her.
Suspicious.
Never know..
Stranger things have happened..she might have had an iron grip on it. It was the only thing that she could hold on to.

Can you hear me now? How ‘bout now? Now? THOOMP!!!
She stayed on the phone while picking up her child. What a sorry excuse for a mother.
There was no indication of the condition of the phone.
It could have bounced and hit her body and then fell ‘next’ to her.
More likely, she instinctively gripped it until impact and it stayed near her.
Maybe she was pushed while trying to call police.
Easy, easy, let’s not throw stones. Millions of mom’s do this and they’re still good moms.
Those railings are low and don’t look to code. If the location isn’t legally under the national code the resort should be just to avoid lawsuits.
RIP.
