Mitt Romney's Ohio Problem By Z. Byron Wolf
ABC OTUS News - Mitt Romney's Ohio Problem (ABC News) Forget post-convention bounces - the numbers that really matter are in the battleground states, where President Obama's polling advantage is more concerning to Mitt Romney's team than any national numbers. No Republican has ever won the presidency without winning Ohio, and Romney isn't in a strong position to become the first.
According to ABC News' latest race ratings, President Obama is in strong position for 237 electoral votes, when leaning and solid Democratic states and combined. Mitt Romney has only 206 votes he can expect in his column, as of now.
Add in Ohio's 18 electoral votes, though, and Obama stands at 255 - within striking distance of the magic number of 270. Romney would need to win nearly every other battleground state - a list that includes Paul Ryan's Wisconsin, once thought to be safely Democratic - to pull out the presidency without Ohio.

Hey, everybody in Ohio, watch this clip, then decide on your vote:

Freedom
Life
Marriage
That is what is at stake.
THERE'S your problem.
2004 was 8 years ago! I understand where you are coming from but the situation was not on their side as it is today.
Like George Bush was in 2004, Obama is the incumbant and like John Kerry, Romney is the challenger.
If we base this election on the 2004 election - Obama wins just like Bush did.
1) Bush did not cheat - Obama does.
2) In 2004 there were not nearly as many dependents on government as there is today. Welfare people also vote with their wallet and that vote goes to Obama.
With Obama as bad as he is Mitt Romney should be so far ahead that even the most leftist polls in America should be polling Romney with a double digit lead EVERYWHERE.
It’s time for Romney to seriously start thinking about making some staff changes.
Republican internals have Obama ahead by 5% points
Bush was ahead by 8% this day 8 years ago. 8%. Like Obama, he just came out of his convention. He won by only 2.5%. Convention bounces are fleeting. Get a grip.
Source? (I am expecting chirping crickets in response)
Whew boy, the media has a theme the over last 24 hours, don’t they?
I don’t watch tv but hopefully Romney is running ads in PA, OH and WV on how obama is deliberately crushing the coal industry. Good bit of our coal here in SW PA is going to India and China.
I expect Obama to win because the GOP elite saddled us with a weak and lousy candidate.
They wanted Mitt Happens so they can’t blame conservatives if the One is re-elected.
I have no dog in the hunt in this election. Between two liberals, its not much of a choice.
Citation please.

2008 results where Obama won Ohio with 51% percent. I refuse to believe he can still get to 51%.
Oh another one with the secret Republican/Romney internal poll numbers.
Source?
Chirping crickets
Nobody producing anything more than a claim.
Not cool.
Why would you need a source for secret Republican/Romney internal poll numbers when just about all the UNsecret ones reflect the same thing and that is "Obama is ahead".
How 'bout a shot of truth in that denial cocktail?
I don't know how they work it on other forums, but around here, you make claim, you back it up.
You made a claim. Back it up.
Stick it to him.
Every poll I've seen this weekend has Obama ahead. Why don't you show some polls where Romney is ahead. I would love to see them if not for anything else but to sleep a little better.
The truth is, with this economy (which is much different than it was in 2004) Romney should be leading in all states by at least 10 points.
YOU. MADE. A. CLAIM.
BACK. IT. UP.
Huge difference in my mind.
Prove it, liar. Post your source for Republican internals.
I have to go to bed. We will see if he backs up his claim, that Romney's internals have him down 5 in Ohio, or if he continues to divert with nonsensical nonsupportive comments.
He made a claim. He backs it up; he retracts; or he is known as a baldfaced liar.
Those are the only three options. Diversion is not acceptable.
We’re not talking about the news media and public polls and what they say...sure it’s post convention show Obama up, we get that. We are asking you to tell us how YOU KNOW that the Republicans/Romney’s own internal polls show him down by 5% points.
You are either trolling to be negative or you are making up stuff to appear to be some insider.
Would I be surprised Romney’s internal private polls show him down now? Nope, but that’s not the point.
The fact is all these polls are weighted almost 10% towards democrats when in fact there are more Republicans. When you give these polls the proper weighting, Romney is ahead 5-7%.
The problem is also that Obama cannot poll above 50% which is a huge because independents will vote 80% against the incumbent. It seems there are a lot of trolls and shills now for Obama posing as Freepers.
Hopefully you and Chunga or whatever her name is do not do to Mitt Romney what Sarah Palin supporters have done to her in the past.
Warning to the concerned. Do NOT be throwing would be Romney voters off the Romney ship because you’re in denial.
It could be partly why Romney is down in the polls.
Warning to the concerned. Do NOT be throwing would be Romney voters off the Romney ship because youre in denial.
It could be partly why Romney is down in the polls.
Back up your claim that Republican internals have Romney down by 5%.
We already know you're a baldfaced liar. Redeem yourself. Post your source.
These polls are designed specifically to discourage you. Not one polling outfit has "republicans" best interest at heart. Never forget that.
Also notice that Obama is running ads in states that he won handily in 2008, like WA state. He wouldn't be doing that for no reason.
Having said that, we should fight as though we ARE down by 5 points. Go the extra mile. Get mad. Get even. Play dirty.
Tell every democrat you know that they really don't need to "worry" because Obama "has it in the bag". They don't need to vote because it's "all taken care of". If they want to vote, make sure they come out heavily on November 7, the special "democrat's voting day".
They're also both limousine liberals from Massachusetts with a large charisma deficit, as was often pointed out here during the primaries. Seems like all of the political consultants had their mindsets formed in the '60s when a Massachusetts politician like JFK was a smashing success and a staunch conservative like Goldwater went down in defeat. Despite all the evidence of how times have changed, e.g. Reagan's success and Dukakis and Kerry's defeats, the consultants who pushed Romney on us cannot change the imprint that was made in their mind at that time about what makes for a successful candidate.
I don't see Romney doing as well as McCain did with blue collar voters. He was pushed because the consultants think swing voters are all like them, wealthy liberals with advanced degrees who like tax cuts, abortion and gay marriage. But there are at least as many swing-voting "Reagan Democrats" who don't like rich people but do like God and guns. Most consultants have probably never met one of the latter people in their life though and are not convinced they exist.
You guys are good in digging up relevant data from Bush Vs Kerry election in 2004. Congrats!
"Also notice that Obama is running ads in states that he won handily in 2008, like WA state. He wouldn't be doing that for no reason."
Is that true? I saw somebody mention that on another thread, as well. Very interesting.
But the Democrats spent their convention blaming not only Bush but every policy the Republican party has pushed in the past 30 years for the state of the economy. The Republicans spent their convention talking about how much they love America. There is no way any objective viewer could watch both conventions and not feel that the Democrats did a better job of winning over voters. They actually acknowledged that they were there because there's an election coming up, for one thing. So this poll bounce for the Democrats should be expected.
Sadly, the Obama people are holding back on the issue of Romney’s flip-flopping habits. They’re probably going to be running “Romney Then and Now” ads sometime in late October.
He’s stood on every side of every issue. That’s going to become a problem with the general public.
As bad as Obama is doing, ANYBODY running against Obama should be up at least 10 points by now.
It’s time to start replacing people who run his campaign.
I am not going to back up the previous claim. The report came from Politico and aynonomos sources within Romney campaign so take it with a grain of salt. The bigger news is Obama released fundraising in Aug. of 114 million. Yes it was close Romney raised 111. Super pacs will outspend Dems but it is not like the primary where Romney had a significant advantage. This was before conventions.
All those threads about burn rate and Obama spending too much early are now obsolete.
You can’t polish a turd. There is very little that Romney’s campaign operatives have done that isn’t perfectly consistent with what Romney himself says and does. There’s no one to replace, because the people running the show, in charge and at the top of the Republican party are running exactly the kind of campaign they always wanted to, the kind where they cower in fear at the liberal media and try carefully not to offend them or their politically correct sensibilities.
The only replacement options we have are bottom-up from the grass roots, but it’s too late to affect the current election with that. If Romney wins it will be because ANYONE could’ve beaten Obama, not because of anything Romney said or did.
Ah yes those mysterious Republican internal polls. Been hearing alot about them today.....with no back up
Re: FLASHBACK: DUKAKIS +17 OVER BUSH AFTER DNC 1988

The scariest part is that every example given so far have been of challengers from Massachusetts who ultimately lost the election.
The second scariest part is that to debunk current polling data of a particular poll, 25 year old examples are used instead of other current polling data actually showing Mitt Romney ahead.
You can tell the left is all over the internet tonight planting seeds of a Romeny collapse. Their mistake is that many of them are not creative enough to be careful with their message hence you get this: “Romney should be up 10 points in this election”. I’ve seen this “talking point” in many posts here tonight, but also on several other sites too.....this is a set-up folks. Don’t buy into it.
Yeah well, everybody who has disagreed with this polling data in the above article have yet to prove it incorrect and DEMAND that others who believe it to back it up.
In the meantime instead of proving the data wrong with current polling data from somewhere else they6 are posting polling data from 1988 and 2004 elections.
Very telling
Huge difference between Dukakis & Romney. One never ran a business or worked for a profit making private sector outfit. The other spent 25 years in real world main street economy with successful results.
The only thing helping Obama is the 48 million food stamps people, teachers unions, trial lawyers, government workers unions, millions of Medicaid recipients, 25 million collecting disability, 99’ers (99 weeks of unemployment checks), free breakfast & lunches in school, rent subsidies, heat subsidies, aid to dependent children aka welfare, and 95% of blacks who are always yelling racial prejudice.
When you consider all of above, Romney is doing remarkably well.
Another piece of evidence that Obama is in trouble is the MSM and liberals going bat$hit crazy. Look at Chris Matthews. Not that he wasn't insane before, but if Obama had this thing locked up Chrissy and his fellow travelers wouldn't be so off in straight jacket land.
Romney SHOULD be up 10% in this election at this point.
I’m no leftist. Thank God FreeRepublic has a tool which allows users to read back into the history of other “leftist” Freepers. I suggest you learn how to use it.
Lol, did I mention you by name ? Fact is I’m seeing this “talking point” all over the net. Pretty much the same language. All at the same time. Not difficult to figure out what is going on here.
