Now out of prison, Joseph P. Ganim is back in the public eye. He is pressing the state to allow him to return to the practice of law, a decision that would require a panel of three state Superior Court judges to determine that he has the requisite "good moral character" and "present fitness" to practice. * * * A committee of five Bridgeport-area lawyers previously recommended his reinstatement. * * * A federal jury convicted Ganim in March 2003 of 16 counts of racketeering, conspiracy, extortion, mail fraud, bribery and filing false income tax returns. The government called Ganim and two associates a "triumvirate of corruption'' and bombed the jury with evidence of lavish bribes. During two years in the 1990s, the prosecution said that Ganim took more in wine, meals and entertainment than many of his constituents earned.

Where does it say he’s a Democrat?

For me, the punch line is that he was actually MORE reasonable than most CT Democrats, and better than some of the Republicans.

How can an-ex con convicted of 16 counts of racketeering, conspiracy, extortion, mail fraud, bribery and filing false income tax returns adminster the law?

One of the bedrock principles of the US justice system is that a lawyer must go to court with “clean hands”...meaning no laws must be broken in the adminstration of justice.

These ex-felons who were formerly lawyers shouldn’t be allowed to practice anywhere.

They gave that privilage up when they were convicted.
