I asked a top Romney adviser what he makes of reports that the Romney campaign knows its losing and that Ohio is slipping out of reach (PPP has a new poll with Obama at 50 in the state):
Its horses**t. Nobody in Boston thinks were going to lose. Were in a tight race. We had a 4-5 point bounce after our convention and it evaporated when they had theirs. Now they have a 4-5 bounce. Its going evaporate in September. We feel good about the map. Were up with advertising in Wisconsin and I think North Carolina is going to come off the board. On Ohio, theyve been spinning for months now that its out of reach.
There was a Columbus Post-Dispatch poll last week that had it 45-45. Thats a more accurate picture of the state of the play there than any of the spin. PPP has these polls that just put chum in the water for the media. Sometimes I think theres a conscious effort between the media and Chicago to get Republicans depressed. And I hope our friends realize that all these media analysts out there are Democrats WHO WANT US TO LOSE. And the more Washington DC controls our economy, the more important inside-the-beltway publications are and the more money they make. The 202 area code is dominated by people who will make more money if Obama is reelected, so its not just an ideological thumb theyre putting on the scale for him, its a business interest.
I actually think the other side is in a panic. You look at New Mexico closing up. And theyre not above 50 in any of their target states. Look, were raising money, theyre raising money, and its tight. This is a dogfight. But the numbers actually point to a romney win barring something unforeseen.
What is Romney’s plan for keeping the ballot-counting process safe when 13 states will have their ballots counted by Scytl, a Spanish company with Socialist ties partly funded by George Soros? If Mr. Corporate Manners can’t fight for the voters’ right to an honest election, he shouldn’t ask for their votes.
The bounce from the conventions are a bit illusory. The first meaningful polls will be in the late September. It has always been the case. Everyone stop hyperventilating.
I do have a concern that the polling world has gotten the message with the suit filed against Gallup that bad Obama numbers published will get you a lawsuit and there is a strong possibility that the whole polling process has been compromised.
Excellent post! Hopefully some of the nervous nellies here on FR take heart.
This is what I needed to hear! thanks for posting.
I guess Republicans should’ve stopped asking for votes a long time ago?
Rasmussen has Obama approval at 52?? We’re dead.
Hopefully some of the nervous nellies here on FR take heart.
I’m talking to you, Costanza!
:-)
Just go away. THE CONVENTION JUST ENDED AND WEEKENDS ARE ALWAYS BETTER FOR DEMS.
it only demoralizes political junkies who read and fret over every poll and every negative result
WHOOPSY!
Now tsowellfan, you are not a troll, but you've been had. Time to 'fess up, otherwise every time I encounter your name, I will expect either a lie, or I expect I will need to check your premises.
RIghtwardHo, I'm a little more suspicious about you.
Another tip is that Demos are over represented in weekend polls because Repubs are out and about over the weekend. Look for polls that were all run on weekdays.
You forgot the sarcasm tag closure.
The problem is that Romney has to have the guts to expose Obama for who he is. This needs to get ideological, and do so in a hurry.
Romney needs to have ads running 24/7 just pounding away at Obama. So far, we have seen plain vanilla from Romney. The heat needs to be turned up fast.
Sometimes I think theres a conscious effort between the media and Chicago to get Republicans depressed”
Well, duh.
And we know why they do it: it works. Just hang out at FR, and you can see it....all of the allegedly tough-minded, thick-skinned libertarians say “we’re doomed” with a little push back.
Yes, we’re all worried...obama is up now. But it’s close, and objectively he has some real problems. But he is not a lock. Romney might be able to win...that has always been the case and it remains the case today. (With all that...I’ll sure be glad - gladder the most! - when the polls get closer to earth....).
While optimistic, I’m not sure who to believe anymore. Both sides are going to spin the numbers to their advantage. If this guy didn’t he’d lose his job. I still think Rasmussen is the most honest and accurate, so just keep your eye on that poll over the next 3 weeks. All I see are terrible employment numbers, gas at $4 per gallon, and an opponent that basically goes on record at his convention as hating God. As long as Romney and the GOP are willing to exploit these basic facts, the fundamentals are not there for a permanent Marxist bounce.
I hope that is a direct quote from the Romney guy. If they understand that...I feel like they have the right people in the campaign. The entire strategy has to center around this fact. The media is the enemy of the right. The media wants us to fail. They try to set the rules, the control the narrative. We have to work around that and get the people on board.
Good to know who the designated surrender-meme monkey is this week.
I don’t disagree.
There should be a troll cleaning after the election.
All of these people that say Romney is rolling over...has anyone watched this guy try to get the nomination for R candidate the last two times? He’s suddenly going to just let the Presidency slide away with a “lackluster” campaign? Paul Ryan is going to leave a cushy job to run with a guy destined to lose?
GIVE ME A BREAK.
The one thing I will know when R/R takes office is that they have a steady hand when dealing with “crisis.” Conservative sites are purposely being whipped up into eyeores...Romney isn’t the one undercutting his campaign but weak kneed supporters are!
As I said on a different thread, we’ve heard all of these same worries in WI for three years now with polling and the reactions to it...and we went out and voted in margins none of the pollsters were forecasting.
I agree. I wish they would start using Web ads to expose the myriad of facts about Obama’s performance. The TV ads are expensive and so time is so limited. The web ads can hit statistics, charts, graphs, and allow viewers to click for more info. Hopefully this is in the works for September. Obama needs to be put on the defensive, in a big way. That’s when he screws up. Right now, he’s on the offensive through a compliant media narrative.
Amazing, isn't it? We've been told over and over to avoid social issues, but after a democrat convention spotlighting gay "marriage",abortion, and birth control,we find our side is LOSING!!!!!!!
The lesson?: Trying to silence a third of your conservative base in order to try and appease people that will NEVER vote for you anyway is NOT a winning strategy!
Corrected your sentence for grammar and punctuation.
Oh give me a break. I have been nothing but an optimist to this point but when the guy can be at 52% after Friday’s jobs report, we’ve got big problems. I don’t wanna hear about “weekend polling”, we’re down and what the hell are we going to use to catch up?
Apparently lousy economic numbers don’t hurt him so what are we going to do? The guy should be in the 30’s and he’s over 50!
The Donald blasted Mitt this morning with the Friends saying that he needs to step it up NOW on the attacks and to quit being afraid of being called a racist. Hopefully Team Romney is listening. :)
I agree that Romney has got to go for the jugular. He certainly had no trouble doing that during the campaign, when he ran negative, personal attack ads on his opponents and destroyed them even without even having any program of his own to offer.
He obviously can’t get that personal about Obama but he could certainly attack him heavily on his record.
One of the biggest problems with this is that any criticism of Obama is immediately labeled as racist by the Dems. As I posted earlier, I read that there were buses at the DNC that had big banners saying “Don’t Disrespect My President.” So the Dems are trying to insulate Obama by implying that any criticism of him is “dissin’ a brother.” Putting aside the fact that Obama has absolutely nothing except what appears to be a suntan in common with his supposed “brothers,” the Dems have been very effective in intimidating opponents with this.
Romney may not want to win for ideological reasons, actually, but he definitely wants to be President of the US, and he wants it so bad that he’s spent part of his personal fortune and the last several years doing nothing else but lining up his campaign. So if he really wants it, he’d better get moving ASAP.
Would be better if every polling thread has a list posted of the eyeores here to purposely screw with our more easily manipulated.
It always amazes me how a conservative website that knows the reality of liberal media bias, constantly falls for the BS.
...and this Election is about Jobs and the Economy.
We will win.
The lousy economic numbers are actually helping Obama, because the Democrats have convinced people that the Republicans are going to take away Unemployment benefits and other relief.
Heads they win, tails we lose.
First, most of these polls are biased, even though it may not be intentional. Secondly, they cannot predict the turnout models.
And say what you will about Romney, he is a smart man. There are still 60 days to go, and things are just getting started. Let this play out.
In the end, I predict Obama loses by 4-5 points nationally.
Yeah. Just let the 0bots think it’s in the bag, that he’s a shoo-in. They’ll lay back and think, yeah,ok,we got this...they’re scared to death and, much like a wounded animal who knows this is the end, they’re flailing about, trying to sink tooth or claw into whatever they can to survive.Take heart. We will prevail. We knew it would get ugly, and very dirty. Keep pushing, keep working...we will win!!
What I’m seeing is doesn’t seem to be true trolling, but some misguided, pessimistic, and easily led people. RIghtwardHo, tsowellfan: Two examples.
The problem is that Romney has to have the guts to expose Obama for who he is. This needs to get ideological, and do so in a hurry
I agree 100% and have been saying this for a year. Remind people what BO’s “mentor” said about 911. Remind people of the commies that BO hires to work for him—get on it NOW. The constant drumbeat about medicare isn’t getting it done. Show BO’s commie vision for America because that’s what it is and do so with passion. Scare the heck out of people about BO. If they stay McCain-we lose.
I just wrote to Rove to tell him the same thing.
He reads emails.
The campaign is pandering to an imaginary group of “independents” which if they exist at all, is probably 1% of the voting public. And even if it’s more, let em go.
They aren’t Republicans...they are DIDs. Dems in disguise.
If you ask an “independent” about their voting history, they’ll probably lie about the fact that they vote for D’s.
Agree totally. It’s the economy stupid and it’s a mess. Many, many people who never hear from a pollster are in a very bad way and have gotten to that point during this man’s term. He’s toast.

I just can't buy that. I will buy into a lot of things, like maybe a unicorn with glittered wings is waiting in the yard to be my ride today, but Obama at 52? Nope, not buying it.
Has RIghtwardHo ever responded concerning his top secret access to Romney’s internal polls?
I just heard that Romney wants to keep parts of Obamacare instead of repealing it like he said when he campaigned for (and won) the GOP nomination. Someone tell me again why I should even bother going to teh polls this time? I’m so sick of lying RINOs I could just puke!
No. But Politico lied about having the numbers (expect much more outright lying out of Politico, BTW) and I suspect they sourced their comments from that piece of crap posing as an article. It was roundly denounced in very strong terms by the Romney team this morning.
It was less than a week ago that Obama was losing support from women. We know Romney is up double digits with Independents. All the nervous nellies need to take a deep breath. Stay strong, don’t let all the polling data get you up/down, and just show up on election day. We will win this.
FYI, I live in Northern Virginia. My county went Obama, the first time it has gone for a Dem since 1964. In my neighborhood in 2008 it seemed every other house had an Obama sign in the front lawn. This year - zilch. Romney signs throughout, including my lawn. Not his biggest fan either. I do like Paul Ryan plus I’ll do anything to get this bum out of office. I think we’ll be amazed at the number of silent voters who just want this guy out!
My super-duper secret insiders in both campaigns say internals for California and New York look bleak for incumbents in general. Obama is down 17% in California and a astonishing 39% in New York.
I think if Romney ran more to the left of his base on Obamacare he’d be just fine.
Oh, wait.
Wow, you better get an article over to Politico, with unimpeachable sources like THIS!
I wish there were more people who remembered the 1980 election. The same dynamics are in play.
On this date in 1980 it looked like Carter was a shoe-in for reelection. People liked Carter as a person, and those who voted for him in 1976 were reluctant to admit they had made a mistake.
Late in the election cycle (we’re talking late October folks), these voters sobered up and made the decision “we can’t survive another four years of Carter.” Within a week it went from a Carter lead to a landslide for Reagan.
The people that voted for Obama (and felt good about casting a historic vote) want him to be a good president (so they can continue to feel good about their historic vote). In late October, when the reality of having to cast an actual vote is staring them in the face, these same voters will sober up and decide “we can’t survive four more years of Obama.”
I’m predicting a landslide. It will be anti-Obama, not pro-Romney, but it will be a landslide none-the-less.
I almost want to believe you because Ryan was in California this weekend.
