Julian Castro, Mayor of San Antonio, had the honored position of giving the keynote speech at the Democratic Convention. The 37-year-old had a lot of pressure as he was being compared to Barack Obama giving his speech in 2004. Fortunately his grandmother was not there because she would have taken him over her knee and given him a good thrashing.
Castro spoke of his grandmother often during the speech, speaking of her coming to America from Mexico as an orphan. She persevered despite never even finishing grade school. She worked as a maid, a cook, and a babysitter, Castro told us, and she scraped by to provide an opportunity for Castro’s mother. Castro tells us that she prayed for a grandchild and ended up with two as his mother had twins.
His grandmother lived with him and his brother and learned along with him. She taught herself to read in both English and Spanish and remained a deeply religious person. He tells us how unfortunate it is that she did not live to see him and his brother in public service. What is very fortunate is that she did not see him dishonoring everything that she created and sacrificed herself for.
You see Mayor Castro never once paid tribute to the private sector. His grandmother worked in the private sector to give his mother and him a better life. Castro and his brother graduated from a private university (Stanford) funded by successful Americans, where they obtained their undergraduate degrees. They then attended law school at a university (Harvard), funded by successful Americans where they obtained law degrees. But never did they think of working in this private sector that provided their grandmother her living and them their high level education.
Castro displayed his complete ignorance of the private sector by making fun of a comment Mitt Romney made about starting a business. Romney suggested to students instead of waiting around to find a job that they start their own business. He suggested they borrow some dough from Mom and Dad. Castro thought that was silly. That is because he made no effort to understand how many people have done just that -- how many minority communities like Jews, Greeks, and Japanese had pooled their money to provide start-up capital for businesses. That tradition has now continued with Indian and Afghan immigrants. It appears Castro would rather do what Paul Ryan characterized as having these young adults staying in their childhood bedrooms staring at faded Obama posters and hoping to someday get a job.
Castro went on to talk about “investment,” which, as you know, is the Democratic code word for government spending. After all, he borrowed $596 million as Mayor to spend on government projects. He speaks of “investing” seven times. His answer appears reminiscent of our president – the government will do the job.
Castro only mentions his mother once and barely tells her story. That might be because she is the real source of his commitment to government as the solution. In fact, he previously stated "My mother is probably the biggest reason that my brother and I are in public service.” She was a political activist that helped establish La Raza Unida which means The United Race. When asked about the Alamo, Rosie Castro stated "I can truly say that I hate that place and everything it stands for." This is not exactly mainstream American thinking. There is nothing wrong with ethnic identity and pride. We have many such manifestations. But being against an iconic American symbol speaks loudly of her twisted perception of American life.
Now Ms. Castro has her two sons in office where, instead of aiming toward providing impetus for their community building businesses and participating in the miracle of American free enterprise, they want to tether people to government through their “investment” of our money on the projects they deem appropriate.
Yes, Grandma would be rolling in her grave; and, though she might be proud of her grandsons for achieving public office, she also might say to them “Go get a job and see what real life is like.”
It means "Death to Honky America and Capitalist Freedom."
Rosie Castro, the repulsive mother of these two boys who are sucking the government teat, also calls the defenders of the Alamo, such as Davy Crockett and William B. Travis, “drunks and low-lifes.” Them’s fightin’ words in Texas.
His creepy brother, Joaquin, will probably wins his election to Congress since many Mexican citizens will be voting for him. The Injustice Dept. has ruled that Texas cannot require a photo I D to vote because it would disenfranchise too many Mexicans.
Nothing but wishful thinking. They don't think that way.
They seethe with rage and hate (not my words, see Mama Castro's comments) against the existence of America, and the fact that non-Spaniard white people are standing on "their" ground.
That's it. They are part of a nation, it's visceral to them, and it ain't never gonna be any other way.
So they need to be on their side of the river and us on ours.
It's the way humans are...and the rest of the Animal Kingdom, where territoriality is always innate.
Julian Castro deserves nothing but an FBI dossier recording his every movement, because he's the very embodiment of Mexican irredentism in the United States, and as such he's an enemy of the United States.
The easiest thing for him to do to have a nice life would be to move about 200 miles or more to the South - he'll have all the dirt going down to Tierra Del Fuego to feel comfy on. Not a gringo in sight to piss him off.
But that isn't their culture either, is it? Part of their culture is relentless conquest of land and the spread of their genetics and hegemony.
So that's what he's doing, and if you're weak enough to let him, he's going to figure you deserve it.
Some of his ancestors were met by the real Americans back in 1836. They got the message and left. If they meet people like that now, they'll do the same thing.
But of course, this time they have a powerful new weapon: a mean word. They can just call you "Racist!" and the Americans run screaming...because even their own government will prosecute them for being that.
Senor Castro and his buddies plan to exploit that weakness for all they can.
I don't think of it so much as rage and hate, but more as opportunism to get $$$.
Look forward to the renaming of the battle as "Santa Anna's Last Stand", where he nobly went up against the Evil Slave Trading Racist Americans.
That's the narrative they want.
Mayor Castro reminds me of so many condescending arrogant liberals. It was hard to listen to him, with his liberal arrogant mannerisms, telling us how to live our lives.
'Bout 5 Rhinestone Vaqueros walked in: the black shirts/pants/hats (not sombreros, tho...), the silver toed boots, the whole stupid Caudillo cowboy shtick.
Sat down next to me. Some how we ended up talking.

I laughed. Those guys always crack me up with the barroom macho act.
But they were serious. See, we humiliated them, man. Made them look bad.

The money's cool, but nothing like getting the dirt back. That's what's valuable to the Conquistador, the Caudillo: it may be shantys, it may be run down/beat up, but...it's ours. My land, ese....get your own.
That's what they want.
Most Americans have no concepts of how bad of problem we have with Mexican revanchism and irridentism. Heck, most people don’t even know what the terms mean!
Makes some good points, but no, Castro’s grandmother wouldn’t be “rolling in her grave.” I really doubt she had much time to form ideological convictions or to view herself and her work in the way Bialosky claims.

That is, "For The Race, everything .... for the others, nothing."
That's as racist as it gets, y'all -- she makes Theo Bilbo sound like St. Francis of Assissi.

Regarding La Raza’s stance on the Alamo. They are into this myth that the Anglos invaded Mexican territory in order to spread the slave economy west of the Sabine. The fact that the Alamo was in ruins when it was occupied as a fort is testimony to the failure of the mission system to occupy and develop the area. The Anglos were invited in by the Mexican government in order to serve as a buffer between the Mexican settlements and the wild Indians in the region: the Lipan apache and the even more formidable Comanche. Neither Spain not Mexican had the means to secure Texas. Mexico claimed the region, but the actual lords of the region were the Indians. Both Tejanos and Anglos were part of the rebellion against Santa Anna, and to be sure, the Tejanos were treated unfairly by the Anglos, a mistreatment that continued well into the 20th century. But Mexico was not robbed. It was simply unable EVER to control the region. And it took the United States until after the Civil War to subdue the Comanche and open up the western part of Texas to settlement.

What does Castro’s mother call the Mexicans who died at the Alamo.
The Rangers being a mounted militia force who held their own and better against the best light cavalry in the world (the Comanches). Two things defeated the Comanche 1) Disease, which decimated the southern bands, and 2) the United States Cavalry. Sherman himself was involved in planning the campaign that brought them to heel. Even so, Quannah Parker surrendered more or less on his own terms. IAC. most people have no idea of how formidable the Comanche-Kiowa were. Any Sioux who dared go south of the Arkansas, did so at their peril. New Mexico had a hard time holding its own, and as I said before, neither the Mexican government nor the Spanish before them could muster the force to subdue them. La Raza says, Texas was OURS! Like heck it was.
