Romney struggles to overcome Obama effort tying him to Bush

President Obama is using the still unpopular former President George W. Bush to gain an edge on Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

Obama rarely points direct blame on Bush for the sluggish U.S. economy, but implicit in his “forward” campaign message and his relentless attacks on Romney is that a vote for the Republican ticket would bring the country back to the policies of the Bush administration.

The strategy — one that Obama has unleashed since the spring — has created a difficult problem for Romney's campaign, which must both sell an economic vision for the future and defend against charges that it is offering a rehash of Bush-era policies that remain unpopular with many voters. So far, Romney has had a difficult time distinguishing his brand of Republicanism from Bush's, a problem that helped sink Arizona Sen. John McCain's campaign against Obama in 2008.

At least one former Bush administration official argues Romney must use the few remaining months of the campaign to draw a stronger distinction — including by criticizing Bush’s policies, if necessary.

What's ironic is that it's Obama who is following Bush's policies, because they were liberal policies.

The media wants Romney to buy into Obama's line and criticize Bush's "conservatism" - and paint himself (Romney) as more liberal.

What's really needed is for Republicans to admit to the nation that Bush was a liberal, and his "failed policies" were liberal policies. If America wants more of the Bush failed policies, vote for Obama, because he's liberal like Bush - a big spender, big regulator, big deficit man.

How come Romney doesn’t bring up the fact that Jimmy Carter, YES THAT Jimmy Carter, not only endorsed Obama but appeared on screen at the DNC to endorse him. Id take Bush over Carter ANY DAY of the week
