Mrs. Obama’s Back to School Message: ‘Exciting Changes’ in Cafeteria By Elizabeth Harrington September 10, 2012

(CNSNews.com) – First Lady Michelle Obama delivered a back to school message for children to inform them of the “exciting changes” to their lunchrooms this year, thanks to federally mandated healthy food choices now in effect.

In a video message taped outside the White House, which was featured on the Lets Move! blog last week, Mrs. Obama welcomed kids back to another year of “learning, discovery, hard work and fun.”

“And today I want to tell you about some exciting changes that you’ll be seeing in your school cafeterias,” she said. “Starting this year, the talented people who cook the food at your school will be offering all kinds of healthy, delicious new choices. Foods that are good for you and that taste good, too.”

“These healthy foods are good for your body, they’ll give you energy and make you stronger and they’re also good for your mind,” Mrs. Obama said.

“Studies show that when you eat healthy foods like fruits and vegetables that can actually help you pay attention in class and do a better job on your homework and tests.”

“And that’s really what this is all about,” she said.

Mrs. Obama also noted that both she and the president “believe” in the potential of our nation’s school children.

“It’s about ensuring that all of you have everything you need to learn and grow and succeed in school and in life because you all are the future of this country,” she said of the healthy food choices. “And I want you to know that I believe in you. Your president, President Obama believes in you, too.”

>>It also, for the first time, gives the federal government the authority to regulate the food sold at local schools, including in vending machines.

During the signing ceremony for the law, Mrs. Obama said the federal government has a responsibility for what children eat at school. “When our kids spend so much of their time each day in school, and when many children get up to half their daily calories from school meals, it’s clear that we as a nation have a responsibility to meet as well,” she said.

“We can’t just leave it up to the parents,” Mrs. Obama said.<<

If it wasn’t real, i would swear it was satire.

Where in the hell does this very overweight woman get the authority to mandate a damn thing to anyone other than her 42 personal hair/face/dress/body maids?

Howz' 'bout you shutting your mouth, Mooch-elle, and maybe get your illegal alien husband to stop smoking in our White House? That should keep you real busy.

The local high schoolers are allowed to go off campus. I drove by the other day at lunchtime, and it looked like the entire student body was headed to Subway, the pizza joint, or the local diner.

If I had kids in school, I would encourage them to sell candy bars and potato chips to other students. You know, instill the entrepreneur spirit in them young!

I feel sorry or kids today.

They are supposed to be excited about fruits and vegetables because the Big Controlling Mama is telling them to be?

Pure Orwell.

2 points. First one, I hear our local public school cooks are m.a.d.. They have to document everything, they have to offer the veg or whatever of the day first and the child must take it to get the other items. I hear the grade schoolers receive 2 chicken nuggets and the high school 3 chicken nuggets. Most of the first choice goes into the...wait for it...Trash! #2-I told my wife the other day this all started when parents began putting their kids on the ‘free’ school bus some 60 to 70 years ago. So...we get what we wish for.

Who exactly determines what a healthy diet is and then states that the diet is best for everyone. As a diabetic, my health improved and my glucose levels dropped dramatically when I got off of the government healthy diet. My system does better on a high protein and low card diet. Any processed grains totally jacks up my glucose levels, like white rice, processed flour and the such. I can handle a limited amount of unprocessed grains, but they tend be more expensive that the processed one.

What is healthy for one person is not necessarily heath for the next.

You’ve got to be kidding me. This is what the FLOTUS has to talk about while the teachers in her home town go on strike. Appearance ahead of performance on every level. That’s what this administration is all about.

Why is it up to the FedGov to decide what kids eat?

We need to dump the Dept of Education now.

"What you say to a child if you want to guarantee that they will NOT EAT something ?"

“These healthy foods are good for your body, they’ll give you energy and make you stronger and they’re also good for your mind,” .
