Official student paper at university blames counting error for plan to honor 9/11 hijackers

The official student newspaper at George Mason University had planned to honor the 9/11 hijackers along with victims as part of a candlelight vigil on Tuesday, but later reversed the decision saying they had accidently counted the perpetrators among the victims.

A post appearing in the local newspaper and on the student paper’s official Facebook page indicated early on Monday organizers planned to light 2,996 candles during memorial service sponsored by the student paper The Broadside, for Tuesday evening. That figure represents the 2,977 innocent civilians who perished in the 2001 attacks along with the 19 hijackers.

Official student papers are almost always as leftist as possible. Usually because someone else is paying for it

It’s hard to count that high on your fingers while you are sucking your thumb.

“...George Mason University had planned to honor the 9/11 hijackers...”

Really? They planned on honoring the hijackers?? To even entertain the smallest inkling of honoring murderers is outrageous in the first place. Are these people so cracked to even pop up into their little mush minds?? Who would even THINK about honoring the hijackers—unless they’re blatant traitors. Maybe if any of their family members are murdered, perhaps they’ll be the first one’s to promote their murders for a Nobel. Maybe even put a statue of their murderers in their front yards.

Absolutely! About the only way you can know for certain that a story is false now is if it actually makes sense.

A lot of GMU students worship at the nearby Dar-al-Hijrah Islamic Center whose boys-done-good include Major Hassan and al-Awlaki.

Mine too.

actually this school is pretty conservative. Walter Williams was the head of their eco dept. and the law school is pretty conservative, they do their public service bit by helping military people rather than deadbeats (no offense deadbeats).

I’m SURE they did not wish to honor the terrorists.

I agree. This is probably just another case proving the saying that one should never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence. My guess is that some low-level person planning this vigil looked on the internet, found the 2,996 number, and didn't look into whether that number included the terrorists.

Hey, these are college kids, right?

Jerry: “Susie, why don’t we light some candles in memory of those that died on 9/11?”

Susie: “Yeah, that’s a great idea. How many candles do we need?”

Jerry: “Uh, let me see. I Googled ‘how many died on 9/11’ and got back the answer - it was 2,996. So that’s how many candles we will need.

Bobby: “Hey Dude, that’s everyone that died, including the 19 hijackers.”

Jerry: “Uh oh, I already gave the first number to the school paper.”

Susie: “Well, we can tell them that we just happened to already have the extra 19 candles and didn’t want to waste them.”

Jerry: “Nah, no way. We ain’t gonna light those. Tell them that.”

Bobby: “Look, guys. We gotta come clean and fess up that we didn’t do good enough research. We just took the first number we found for the number that died on 9/11 and didn’t think to question if that included the hijackers.”

Jerry & Susie (both talking at once): “OK OK” “But you’re the one that’s gonna have to tell them.”

/imaginary scenario

Thery not only try to insult America with their vigil to the murdering muslim hijackers.
They turn around and insult everyone by treating them as if they are stupid enough to believe it is just a miscounting error.

Who do they think they are telling such obvious fabrications?

Debbie Washerwoman Shultz?
