Poll: Americans Pick President Obama Over Mitt Romney for Dinner Date
Yahoo! ^ | 9-10-12 | Gregory J. Krieg

Posted on 09/11/2012 12:33:01 AM PDT by GR_Jr.

The American public may be divided on "Obamacare," but when faced with choosing a candidate to care for them if illness struck, President Obama is their man. By a 13 point margin - 49-36 percent - registered voters polled by ABC News chose the president over Mitt Romney to nurse them back to health. When asked who they thought "would make a more loyal friend," the results were about the same. By a 50-36 percent count, respondents said Obama was more likely to stick with them through trying times. As for suppertime, still more ugly numbers for Romney. Fifty-two percent of registered voters polled by ABC News said they'd rather have Obama visit their homes for dinner. Just 33 percent said they'd prefer Romney at the table. But it's not a total wipeout for the Republican. On what ABC News poll chief Gary Langer calls the most instructive question - which candidate they'd rather have "as the captain of a ship in a storm" - Romney loses to Obama, but by just three points, 46-43 percent. "Obama's advantages, in turn, include a persistent lead over Romney in empathy; registered voters by 50-40 percent think Obama better understands the economic problems people are having, and continue to rate him as more personally likeable, by a broad and steady 61-27 percent," Langer reports. "When the two views are tested against each other, empathy independently predicts vote preferences to a far greater degree than does likability." These latest numbers will only build confidence among Obama and his supporters, as the Democrats appear to be enjoying a significant post-convention bump in the polls. The most recent figures have the president with a growing lead nationally, 50-44 percent, according to an ABC News/Washington Post survey. Romney had been up a single point, 47-46 percent.

That’s passion. Good post and right in the money for such a contrived “poll”.

Only mature people should be allowed to vote. This would save us all a lot of money on so many levels.

Obviously a poll of stupid Yahoos.
It is incredible that so much of the US population has been
dumbed down to moron level in the last 10 years.
I thank God every day that I got out when I did.

I`ll bet those figures are +30 among women. Moochelle said Baraq is their husband too. Fuehrer`s brides and all.

I notice the WaPo waited until the afterglow of the DNC to conduct this survey, at the height of the renewal of that emotional bond. We laugh at it, but this is very indicative of the weird connection the majority of Americans feel with Obama. No matter the path down which he`s taking this country, they can`t quit him... they just can`t.

I like that thought. Hopefully the country can see what this is all about. Desperate times call for desperate measures on the part of the incumbent and his sycophant supporters in the msm.

Everyone loves spending time with a narcissicist, right? These people have no clue. Obama cares about you so long as he rotates about the center of your universe and he has a use for you.

One need only look at the charitable giving rates between Romney and Obama over the years to figure out who has the bigger heart.

Of course, that would imply that the American populace would be looking for objective proof—something I don’t see as mattering too much to most voters, particularly given we’re even in the polls with zero job creation and 5-trillion in the Obama Debt.

If my doctor staggered into the room smoking a cigarette and smelling of alcohol, I'd run away. Really, if he doesn't give a **** about his own health, why would he care about mine? If almost half of voters would trust Obama more than Romney with their health, we're doomed.

I wouldn’t want to eat with either one of them. I don’t eat dinner with liberals and both Obama and Romney are liberal.

Since I have a low gag threshold, I couldn’t possibly have dinner with, or near, Obama. And now that I’m a senior citizen, I tend to nod off relatively easily, so boring Romney is out.

I always thought I’d pick Tony Snow if given a choice for a dinner date — interesting, smart, funny, and cute. Now that he’s gone, I just don’t know.

THIS is the reason to get Rand out there:

He’s the human running.

Rand needs a (much) higher role in this race.

This silly poll underlines a more serious problem for Romney. People still WANT to like Obama. They have an emotional attachment to him. No matter how bad Obama has done as President, a majority of Americans still like him. They think he’s cool, they WANT to continue liking him and they don’t want to hear that that they were wrong about him. It is one of the reasons why Romney is having such a tough go of it when it comes to how to attack Obama. Of course people on forums like this are partisan and many don’t believe what I’ve just said, but it is true. It is a huge advantage for Obama to have Americans pulling for him and still emotionally attached to him. This is like battered spouse syndrome folks. In those situations, people sometimes hate the messenger more than anything else - they simply do not want to hear that they were wrong in their judgement about a person.

I feel left out since i wasn’t asked who I would prefer to have dinner with. It’s a “fix” for Obama. NO WAY would anyone in their right mind want a meal with him or his cow sized wife.

Right now I am the main caregiver for my ailing Dad. He has CHF. I would prefer Romney to find out how he dealt with work, family and a very ill wife. He did very well considering. : )

Obama and I have nothing in common. I'm not Julia. I don't believe in Big Government. I believe that America is exceptional. But most of all I despise Islam and believe his policies are appeasement. Two eye popping examples are his NASA policy and his damnable responses today to Israel and the Egyptian Mini Crisis. Yeah, yeah I know he ordered the killing of Binnie Boy - usisng Bush's gathered intelligence, Reagan's and Bush I's and II's Military and HHS policies.
