That’s dishonest. The call for withdrawal came from all stripes of Republicans,including West and Palin. It’s not just from the RINOs.
Who did Akin kill anyway? Who did he attack? Who did he molest?
He uttered some inartful words whose meaning was completely misconstrued, mostly on purpose, for political gain.
“Legitimate rape”? Are you kidding me? That was what set this BS attack off? I was not offended one bit. I know there is no such thing as a legitimate rape. I know that Akin doesn't think there is either. Anyone with half a brain knows that also.
As far as a pregnancy not resulting from a rape for some medical reason, IS COMPLETELY legitimate. There is dispute in the medical community about this. It isn't CRAZY.
So why exactly is the GOP (maybe) THROWING AWAY a Senate seat? Shooting yourself in the foot is not a good strategy.
This course is STUPID! We are jeopardizing a Senate takeover and or a chance to get rid of Obama over THIS?
Where on the list of election issues is rape? Where on the list of election issues is whether a woman's body can prevent a pregnancy when raped?

The Democrats gave the Republicans a club and the Republican dutifully beat Akin almost to death with it.

You are quite naive if you think that KOMU is telling the truth here.
Ask anyone at a radio/tv station and they will tell you that NO political ad is ever run unless it is paid for in advance — and that goes for everyone from dogcatcher to POTUS — and includes KOMU.
So the claim that the Akin campaign owes KOMU anything is a blatant prefabrication. The station would not have run a campaign add unless they already had the money in house.

In he past, I paid for radio time. What happened here is that Akin signed a contract, paid part of the money, and they ran the ads. When they did not receive the other half of the money, the additional ads that were on the log were pulled. Does he owe money to them? Probably not, unless they have something in the contract binding him for damages if they schedule the ads and he doesn’t pay. The article does not say that he did not pay for ads already run. Nice try, but KOMU is not lying here.
So a guy is “arrogant” because he doesn’t drop out of the race (for which he won the primary) when the GOP-E snaps their fingers and tells him to?
Nope. Not buying it.
Here’s a hint - if the GOP-E wants their guy to be the nominee, then they either need to run someone who actually appeals to voters, or else they need to pack the primary with like 8 conservatives so they can all split the vote and their guy with 25% squeaks in (like they did with Romney in the early primaries).
Huckster really should fork over some of his huge fortune to akin since he insisted akin stay in the race.
re: I guess those outside the area do not realize that Akin dropping out is a sure McCaskill win at this point. Roughly a quarter of the voters would not support a GOP-E appointed candidate, which is what would happen if Akin withdraws.

Actually, the Missouri Republican Central Committee (I think of around 60 members or so) would appoint a replacement. I have suggested a way out. Akin make a deal with the Central Committee to name his successor. That would be a win for both, since he would name a pro-life conservative. But Akin won’t do that because it is not about conservatism or pro-life == it is all about him.

Ahh. You called up Akin and suggested this yourself? How did the Missouri Central Committee, a bunch of RINO GOP-E people respond to the offer? The problem comes with the track record of the Committee. They are not trusted. They have already let it be known that they would put up a Middle-Left candidate rather than either of the two who competed with Akin in the primary.
Oh, in case you missed it, I was being sarcastic at the top of this post. We have multiple parties involved in this, none of which will give in. The three biggest are Akin, the Missouri GOP, and the national GOP.
When is the last day he can withdraw? On the next day, conservatives need to get behind him with everything we’ve got.

"from their log" which means that they haven't run yet but were scheduled to run if paid for.
It is SOP for political ads -- paid for upfront or they do not run. The campaign owes them no money and never did.

So true, Karl Rove and the elites threw Christine O’Donnel under the bus, and they are doing the same to Akin. I am starting to believe the GOP wants to keep the status quo of big government. I mean Gorge Bush Jr. had a majority in the senate for a time, and George and the Republicans did nothing. Look at all the Democrats have accomplished with the GOP leadership. If Romney wins and sings kumbaya, and how we must work with the Democrats, I am through defending and voting for Republicans!

Yes, not only was it “easily surivable,” he’ll likely own the seat come 2013.
Scott Brown started the GOP ostrich move, for reasons of his own given that he’s running in a typically liberal state, and then prominent GOPers, who should have had the sense to bide their time, panicked instead.
Akin will probably have plenty of money to run commercials if he’s still in the race in October, and I think he will be.
And just how do you negotiate with 60 separate people???
Anyway what you are suggesting or close to it is what put an Illinois Governor in federal prison.
Certification of the ballots will be no later than Sept. 17. The military overseas ballots begin going out Sept.22. The absentee ballots go out on the 25th of Sept. The cutoff date for Akin to petition the court to with draw his name is the 25th as well.
While it may be a slam dunk for the candidate to remove his name from the ballot, the SOS Robin Carnahan (a rabid Dem)can disagree with the court's decision. Furthermore, ANY election authority down to the county level can oppose the courts withdrawal order.
And Carnahan will not state whether or not she will fight this order. Food fight anyone?
