Stephens: Eric Holder's Gritted Teeth (Calls Off Investigation into CIA "Torture")
WSJ ^ | 9/10/2012 | Brett Stephens

It must be tough on the left, not being able to trash John Durham.

Mr. Durham, recall, is the special prosecutor appointed in 2008 by then-Attorney General Michael Mukasey to investigate allegations that the CIA had illegally destroyed videotapes of CIA detainee interrogations. The prosecutor's mandate was expanded in 2009 by current Attorney General Eric Holder to look into allegations that CIA officers and contractors had abused and, in some cases, tortured and killed, as many as 101 detainees thought to have been in U.S. custody.

[....]

What followed was an investigation that led to one exoneration after another. No criminal charges were filed in the videotape destruction case. In 2011, Mr. Durham concluded that no further investigation was warranted in all but two of the 101 detainee cases.

The last shoe dropped on Aug. 30, when Mr. Holder announced that the final two cases—involving the death of one detainee in Afghanistan and another in Iraq—would be closed once and for all. His statement praised Mr. Durham and his team for conducting an "extraordinarily thorough" review, ranging over "information and matters that were not examined during the Department's prior reviews."

[....]

You have to marvel at the gritted teeth through which those words somehow passed. It had been Mr. Holder, after all, who decided to expand Mr. Durham's inquiry despite the prior conclusions of Justice Department officials that it wasn't warranted. He did so, also, over the tacit objections of the White House and the vocal objections of seven CIA directors, including then-director Leon Panetta.

In other words, this was an ideological vendetta that Mr. Holder pursued right to the end.

Imagine that.

But I don't believe that any WH objections were "tacit."

If anything was "tacit," it was WH approval. The puppet doesn't move unless the master pulls the strings.

This Century will record Holder as the most corrupt
person in the the history of the DOJ
as he perverted it to an agency whose sole purpose
was helping, arming, and supporting terrorists and
murderers against the American people.

Holder still will need to stand trial in Mexico for the murder of several hundred government officials.

I doubt that he will get off on any of them!

Yeah, but he'll be eclipsed by the most corrupt person in the history of the American presidency.

When 99 out of 101 cases are dropped because they were found to be without merit, you have to ask why so many were brought in the first place.

Witch hunt?

Maybe what should be investigated is who decided to investigate all these cases and why?

Vendetta?

What’s wrong with this picture? Or am I missing something?

The bottom line is that if the CIA was going to off some dirtbag, slowly or quickly, I would sincerely hope that they had the professionalism to keep evidence of such an incident beyond the reach of someone with little or no grasp of the context.

The very purpose of the CIA in wartime is to decisively exterminate as many as possible of the enemy, in a manner complementary to the military.

And, by international law, non-uniformed combatants engaging in terrorist activities have few if any protections, and after a brief field trial with minimal evidence, are allowed to be executed by the military with no further delay.

Thus the CIA has only “other purposes” to keep them alive, and if there are none, then these combatants are expendable.

Personally, I think the CIA missed an opportunity to create some sort of “mass production reprogramming” of these scum. Not traditional “brainwashing”, just modify their minds enough so that they just want to go home and never leave their own country to commit terrorist acts again.

They would not in any other way be handicapped, could defend their homes against attack. But they would no longer want to leave their home country to fight other people in other countries.

There is no “human right” to engage in terrorism, so for them to lose their desire to do so is sufficient.

However, in such a situation, it would almost be irresistible to the CIA to turn them into “cannibal rats”, to go home, find their old terrorist leaders and instigators, and kill them.

All this us against them thinking is much different now that DHS and classified American vets, second amendment advocates, prolifers, Christians, anti-UNers, third party supporters and constitutionalists as it’s domestic terrorist enemy.

In addition, Obammy has the power now to imprision or muder any domestic terrorist he targets. Our government is molesting Americans - not jihadists - at our airports and spying and collecting information on us now.

In the government’s war on terror, Americans and their freedom are the enemy. We had Petraus come out and demand free speech be ended and Shira be imposed on Americans when that minister burned a koran in protest of NY’s victory mosque and hurt the jihadists’ feelings. The military ran a civil war game featuring the Tea Party as the government’s rebel enemy...

There is a war on Americans and freedom. It has to be ended or seriously reigned in to target Islamic terrorism only. Our leaders are criminally insane, corrupt and treasonous to let this happen.

Sec. of State Hillary Clinton cackled “WE got him!” when a POW named Momar Gaddafi was captured, tortured, abused, then murdered in Libya.

John FTA Kerry even celebrated this series of war crimes at the 2012 DNC Convention.

Talk is cheap. Democrats are whores.
