Americans Oppose Iran Attack by 2-1 Margin
Forward ^ | Sep 11 2012 | Forward

Despite labeling Iran’s nuclear program as a “critical threat” to U.S. interests, a clear majority of Americans oppose a military strike against Tehran and support a policy of UN sanctions and diplomatic dialogue. The new annual poll published this week by the Chicago Council for Global Affairs on American attitudes towards foreign affairs – dubbed “Foreign Policy in the New Millennium” - found that 70% of Americans oppose a strike on Iran that is not authorized by the UN Security Council, and 51% are opposed even if the UN body does sanction the attack. In addition, 59% of Americans are opposed to US intervention on behalf of Israel in case of Iranian retaliation for a preemptive Israeli attack.

Not endorsing it, but this could be the poll that Obama is looking at.

The results of the poll depend on the wording of the question. If they ask the question, "Do you support a military strike to stop Iran from building nuclear weapons if diplomacy and sanctions fail to stop Iran?", then you'll get an overwhelming majority of Americans in favor of a strike (easily 75% or more).

I think the Iranians are overconfident about America/NATO/Israel not doing a military strike if Iran continues its nuclear weapons program. The Iranians say things like "Obama was elected to stop two wars and not to start a new war", but that oversimplifies why Zero was elected. His win over McCain in 2008 was largely the result of Bush's mishandling of the mortgage crisis and Bush's terrible decision to let Lehman Brothers go bankrupt instead of at least bailing out bondholders in the way Bear Stearns was bailed out. Zero was not elected mainly on an anti-war platform--he won more on an anti-Bush platform. That was his election strategy: simply blame all US problems on President Bush and say that McCain would be like Bush.

If the Iranians push their nuclear program too far and too hard, they will get hit hard by the US, NATO, and Israel. Everyone in NATO knows that if necessary, it's better to fight a war with Iran today that we will win than to fight a nuclear war with Iran in the year 2050 that we could lose, and lose badly.

IIRC we didn't want to get involved with WWII either.

If Japan hadn't attacked US, we'd be reading this in German!

Without nuclear weapons, the Germans didn’t have nearly enough firepower to invade America and win. They couldn’t even cross the English channel and defeat Great Britain. IF Hitler had started up a nuclear weapons program and built nukes before we did, then we might be speaking German now. But Hitler was a crazy idiot and a disaster as a military strategist, and reportedly he was not interested (Thank God) in developing nuclear weapons.

Agreed.
Also, the race card was an important factor, which Obama & some of his supporters played during 2008 campaign, & thereafter.
Equally, we often only cite how many people actually voted for Obama in 2008, but not how many voted for McCain!

No surprise to me. 50 years of liberal training have made many Americans scared to death of any war regardless and suspicious of the military as a rule. Even when a 9/11 type incident forces it the willpower isn’t there to stay in it long enough to win it.

Hopefully not a majority but a large percentage of Americans just don’t have it in them anymore, much like the Europeans.

IMO this simple fact is going to change how the U.S. “goes to war” from now on out.

Perhaps Hitler would’ve if for example Oppenheimer’s parents hadn’t immigrated to the US.

Forward has been the communist cry for 130 years. This poll is BS. If you made it clear that we destroy iran and that there will be no nation building after we break and kill her... 70% will demand it to happen.

The Forward is a legendary name in American journalism and a revered institution in American Jewish life. Launched as a Yiddish-language daily newspaper on April 22, 1897, the Forward entered the din of New York’s immigrant press as a defender of trade unionism and moderate, democratic socialism.

In other words....a Communist Paper

So how do we treat this?

By doing the opposite!!! ATTACK NOW!!!!!!!!!

That's all we need is ANOTHER WAR TO LOSE. This country has not won a war since WW2. To list some of the big names (where we lost a lot of troops):

Korea...lost

Viet Nam....lost

Gulf War...lost (had to go back)

Iraq.....lost

Afganistan....still losing.

We will never again win a war with troops on the ground because the troops will be held back by the politically correct girly Admirals, Generals, Secretaries of Defense and Presidents. We can only win if we launch or drop a 'big one'........ mushroom clouds ---> Smoke 'um if you got 'um, baby !! And, we got 'um !!

That "prominent but misinformed Democrat" needs to be looking at Obummer, because he sure as hell wants to get us in a war with Syria and/or Iran, he just hasn't found the proper way to spin it yet. Obama and his followers think Syria and Iran would be just like Libya.
