Caddell On Romney: "This Is The Worst Campaign In My Lifetime" (video)
RealClearPolitics ^ | September 11, 2012 | RealClearPolitics

"I swear to God, everything we have been saying for months, and I know a lot of the audience doesn't want to hear this, this is the worst campaign in my lifetime," Democratic pollster Pat Caddell said on the Monday edition of FOX News' "Campaign Insiders" web show. "A challenging campaign, with a chance to win. They have set themselves on a course that says, 'We don't have to do anything, we're going to win because they don't like the other guy.'"

"That 50% approval rating -- if the president is at 50% approval, it is hundreds of millions of dollars raised and spent by Republican and conservative consultants and organizations have failed. They have failed because they have no real credibility as a message. If he's at 50%, somebody needs to sit down and rethink," Caddell said.

"Republicans have no response mechanism. Hundreds of millions of dollars, they're still not on the air explaining to people that with the labor participation rate, if it was the same as he came into office the unemployment would be 11.2%. There is a missing case and I watched Romeney yesterday, I watched Romney yesterday, I swear to God, there is no urgency to this man. He is running, as I said this morning, bored," Caddell observed.

..once a Dem always a Dem

Well, I was once a Dem. So was my favorite president, Ronald Reagan. Let me tell you something....there's no conservative like an ex-liberal who's been mugged by reality.

As far as Pat Caddell, who knows?

The entire 24-minute campaign insiders show where Caddell’s clip comes from is at this link. These guys are brilliant. I enjoyed watching them in the primaries too. They are as honest analysts as you’re going to find.

In the full clip, Caddell also says about the Republicans “this is a party on the verge of extinction if it doesn’t get its act together.” Let’s hope so. Time to form the Tea Party and let the Charlie Crist/Mitt Romney RINOs of the party and their hangers-on go join the Dumbocrats.

I thought the McCain campaign playing nice nice with Obama was the worst campaign ever so I doubt Romney has topped McCain.

I am getting a feeling of deja vu watching Romney's campaign. I am getting a feeling of deja vu watching republicans dismiss the polls. We had what we all thought were good reasons to dismiss them the last time around, too.

The scenario is different -- Obama is the failed incumbent now. But reality is not perception. I know people who intend to vote for Obama because they don't know any better. Romney has not made Obama's failure known and he has failed to explain why he will be any better.

Romney could be enjoying a comfortable lead according to his internal polling. I hope so. But even if he is, his lack of campaigning could easily set up a tortoise-and-hare scenario.

Even if he is far enough ahead to wait this thing out, the further he can pull out ahead of Obama will not only weaken the democratic party but also help turn other tight races.

How could anyone expect a team from Massachusetts to run a national campaign on the Republican side? Like Ann Romney said, they didn’t even know any Republicans until a few years ago. In Mass., if you want to run against Democrats, all you can afford to do is go a slight, tiny nudge to the right of them, or you’ll be too right-wing to win. Now Romney is applying that rule to the national stage, thinking he’ll lose the election if he moves any more than one teeny tiny inch to the right of Obama.

As always, I don’t blame Romney so much as I blame the morons who voted for him in the primary. Romney is who he is. It was clear and obvious for all to see and was pointed out in great detail by his primary opponents. As I pointed out numerous times, he was always one of the two least electable primary candidates in the general election. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out no one’s going to pick Obama Lite when they can get the real thing.

You are right, and I cannot argue against anything you’ve said.

But we face a choice of, I want to say literally here, but I’m afraid to, we face a choice of elect Mitt Romney or die.

Jedi, I feel like the world is spinng towards a great maelstrom, and we are going to reach the center well before the election comes.

I’ve felt bad all day, really down, I’m scared ****less man. The world is falling to pieces rapidly, and we have a ****ing moron in the white house and a sissy runing against him.

God Help us all.

At the end of the full Caddell show, they all agree “serious people” are going to be talking about a 3rd party after the election if Romney loses. Funny thing is I heard Rush, Laura Ingraham, and Steve Deace all talk about it so far this week too. The rest of the conservative world is suddenly starting to sound more like FR.

Losing to Obama in this economy might be the only event crippling enough to the Republican brand to make a third party happen. Maybe it’s a necessary evil to lead to a rebirth of conservatism.

But how someone makes a third party operate without getting hijacked by RINOs again, I don’t know. We would also have competition from the libertarians over them wanting to form a party without social conservatism.

This year would’ve been a slam dunk for a third party. I’m surprised nobody prominent made a serious effort. Even from the most simplistic standpoint, you could blame the Republicans for starting the economic crisis and the Democrats for not fixing it. Perfect opportunity for a third party to step in.

The scary thing though is how big the loss could be. On Caddell’s show, they said Republicans are now telling them not only might they not win the Senate, but the House is now in play for the first time. Note that they do still say the election is “winnable” for Romney. But they predicted that he won’t change his campaign strategy and because of that, probably won’t win it.

Very much so. A lot of the same people working for Romney worked for McCain. I am seeing very similar remarks and statements that I saw 4 years ago.

3rd party will only cement the socialist slide for America.

Obama’s win will be the end of the America we once knew on so many levels - cultural, demographic, political and economic.

“The scary thing though is how big the loss could be. On Caddell’s show, they said Republicans are now telling them not only might they not win the Senate, but the House is now in play for the first time”

That’s crazy talk.

Biggest problem with Romney’s campaign as I see it is that they have spent NO time criticizing the Democrat party as a whole, and only some time criticizing Obama. Meanwhile the DNC bashed Republicans as a whole non-stop, going back to criticize the last 60 YEARS of the Republican party at one point. If one party is bashed and the other isn’t, people are going to assume the one being bashed deserves it and that no material must exist for them to attack the other side with. What exactly is Romney’s argument for why voters should give the Senate and House to Republicans?

Yay Illinois. Where there’s talk of Ray Lahood coming back here to run for governor, as a Republican, with the support of the Democratic party. Go figure. At least he has a shot at a free orange jumpsuit. Kind of goes with being governor here.

Pat Caddell has worked for Democratic presidential candidates George McGovern in 1972, Jimmy Carter in 1976 and 1980, Gary Hart in 1984, Joe Biden in 1988, and Jerry Brown in 1992.

Their intention is to gloat if Romney lost in November and earn the right to say I told you so.

There will be no gloating by this freeper if Romney loses, the Republic will have been lost, along with this forum, and any other freedom venue.

Our bettors have chosen this man, now they have to elect him, if that is really what they intended.
