White House Disavows Cairo Apology (Free Republic broke embassy apology story)
Politico ^ | Tuesday, September 11, 2012 | Byron Tau

The White House is disavowing a statement from their own Cairo embassy that apologized for anti-Muslim activity in the United States.

"The statement by Embassy Cairo was not cleared by Washington and does not reflect the views of the United States government," a senior administration official told POLITICO.

The U.S. embassy in Cairo put out a statement early Tuesday that apologized for an anti-Muslim film being circulated by an Israeli-American real estate developer.

"The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions," the embassy said in a statement published online.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the film depicts the Muslim prophet Muhammed as a "womanizer, pedophile and fraud" — depiction bound to offend many Muslims.

The embassy came under widespread criticism for failing to defend free speech in the face of threats of violence. Egyptian protesters rioted anyway, breaching the embassy walls and tearing down the American flag.

"Some have sought to justify this vicious behavior as a response to inflammatory material posted on the Internet. The United States deplores any intentional effort to denigrate the religious beliefs of others. Our commitment to religious tolerance goes back to the very beginning of our nation. But let me be clear: There is never any justification for violent acts of this kind," Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said in a Tuesday statement.

Apparently a tweet already vanished praising Islam as a wonderful religion.

There is a dead guy in the building, broken windows, people injured and someone tweeted that Islam is a wonderful religion????

Seriously???

U.S. Embassy Condemns Religious Incitement
September 11, 2012

The Embassy of the United States in Cairo condemns the continuing efforts by misguided individuals to hurt the religious feelings of Muslims – as we condemn efforts to offend believers of all religions. Today, the 11th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the United States, Americans are honoring our patriots and those who serve our nation as the fitting response to the enemies of democracy. Respect for religious beliefs is a cornerstone of American democracy. We firmly reject the actions by those who abuse the universal right of free speech to hurt the religious beliefs of others

I think the administration just got caught trying to explain away two 9/11 anniversary riots as being caused by something other than a desire to celebrate 9/11. Looking at the reports, the media can’t even make their mind up which movie it is that allegedly caused the mob action, but I don’t see banners and writing complaining about movies- I see the black flag of jihad.

Awesome....A great reminder of the remarkable history at FR. From the 2000 election to 9/11 to the the Dan Rather memo.

One of my most vivid memories was the thread describing the failed Space Shuttle landing, where freepers commented that they could see something was wrong watching the shuttle in the sky over the west coast, minutes before it reentered the atmosphere over Texas. It was incredible to read...not unlike re-reading the 9/11 threads.

This is a remarkable place, filled with many brilliant and knowledgeable people.

Such a good thing I signed up here. Too much of our media today is either liberal, or, too busy pandering to the liberal media. Great work

They are only “Disavowing” the statement because they are afraid of losing Jewish support(Which by the way are at Carter numbers) behind the scenes they are rooting for these Arab thugs. This is what Obama has wanted from the beginning, the Muslim Brotherhood to take over, Sharia law world wide

Yep and as Allen West just said on Greta a few minutes ago this apology will only entice additional violence. He is so right.

Alrighty, then what exactly are the views of the United States Government then?

When fraud artist Andres Serrano put a crucifix bearing the likeness of Jesus in a container of urine and photographed it, and that photograph was then displayed publicly, Serrano awarded a sum of prize money some of which had been supplied by the United States Government.

We were then subjected to endless explanations about how Mr. Serrano must be respected for his artistic contributions, how his right to "free speech" must be considered sacrosanct, how even though his "art" might offend millions of Catholics and other Christians, the outrage they felt could not be considered in any way by the agencies that awarded the prize or supplied the money for the prize, because, after all, Mr. Serrano is an American citizen and enjoys the same First Amendment rights as any other American.

I think the sharp difference in reaction here, by the US Embassy, can be accounted for very simply: Catholics won't kill you if you offend them, but muslims will. Any other explanation is pure cant, which (as I understand it) is a highbrow synonym for "BS."
