Marine unit dispatched to secure consulate in Benghazi after deadly attacks

A team of about 50 Marines has been dispatched to the Libyan city of Benghazi to secure the U.S. Consulate after attacks Tuesday left four Americans dead including the U.S. ambassador, a senior U.S. military official told Fox News.

The official said a Marine "fast team" is being sent from the U.S. Naval base in Rota, Spain. They are not yet on the ground.

The move comes after President Obama ordered "all necessary resources" provided to Libya to support the security of U.S. personnel in the country.

I agree wholeheartedly. Things are just not adding up at this point. There is a cover up being perpetrated by our own government and media. I can only hope to God that it all blows up spectacularly in Obama's and Hillary's face. Please Lord let it be so.

There is a Marine Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU= a reinforced infantry Bn + a squadron of helicopters)in the Med. There has been one there since at least the 1950s. If I was a betting man, I would bet that the ships are heading towards there now. Why they are not securing the compound- I don't know. A MEU secured the embassy in Liberia in the early 1990s and after the dust settled the FAST Marines came in.

Having said that, the Fleet Anti-terrorism Security Team (FAST) Marines are specifically trained to secure embassies and the 50 man number is a basic unit for this type of mission. It would not surprise me that the FAST is flying in on MEU helicopter's and the MEU remain off the coast as reinforcement/support.

I heard the Marines were going to the capital city to protect the embassy there .. because there are no people left at the Benghazi station .. and no building there to guard.
