PLEASING THE ISLAMIC FAITH - KFC (Houston) using animals slaughtered under Sharia Law
KTRH ^ | Nik Rajkovic

Posted on 09/12/2012 9:08:18 AM PDT by Cincinatus' Wife

KFCs in Houston are now serving meat slaughtered under Sharia Law. The practice of Halal is said to be a much slower, calmer process which begins with a prayer for the animal.

Some say this discriminates against non-Muslims. But Paul Shapiro, Vice President for Farm Animal Protection at the Humane Society of the U.S. simply calls it inhumane.

"Animals have their throats cut without being rendered unconscious prior to the cutting," says Shapiro. "That's unlike other types of more conventional slaughter where an effort is supposed to be made to render the animals insensible to pain."

Rasheed Ahmed with the Muslim Consumer Group disagrees, arguing that traditional machine slaughter results in 142 chickens being killed each minute, and asks how is that more humane?

"A requirement for Halal is that the person has to pronounce the name of God," says Ahmed. "There's no chance that God's name is pronounced on each of the 142 chickens."

At least one KFC countertop in Houston displays a letter from the Islamic Society of the Washington Area certifying their chicken from Tyson Foods meets Halal requirements. However, there are reports that other fast food giants use the process without telling customers.

KFC Corporation, Media Relations representative, Rich Maynard, responded with the following statement:

“KFC Corporation does not provide certification that our products meet Halal requirements. The flyer in the Houston restaurant contains an outside organization’s representations regarding a supplier’s products and practices.

KFC is committed to the well-being and humane treatment of chickens. We buy our quality chickens from the same trusted brands that consumers buy in supermarkets. While we don’t own any poultry facilities, we require all of our suppliers to follow welfare guidelines developed by us with leading experts on our Animal Welfare Advisory Council. Poultry processed in the U.S. (for KFC or other restaurants or grocery chains) is stunned and rendered insensible to pain before slaughter.”

Neither KFC’s parent company Yum! Brands nor Tyson Foods responded to calls seeking comment on this story.

Texas is one of top ten muslim population states in the country. Last I knew it was ranked about 8th.

I try to avoid dealing with Tyson but its nearly impossible.

I’m damn tempted to start raising a few chickens myself. I know I’ve got a couple of neighbors raising them now because I’m hearing roosters in the morning.

“Judging from my e-mail, a lot of folks are hopping mad about this weekend’s story from the Shelbyville, Tennessee Times-Gazette concerning Tyson Foods’ decision to replace the paid Labor Day holiday with the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Fitr. Brian Moselely reports that there are 700 Muslims working at the 1,200-employee plant, including some 250 Somali refugees:........” [2008 Michelle Malkin]

I don’t care who made it.

Take it down and repudiate it, or a boycott should start.

Put these Muzzie-lovers out of business.

Halal meat in the public marketplace should be an issue to Christians because it is “meat offered to idols” that the Apostle Paul said they must decline to eat for the sake of being a witness to others lest they imply endorsing a pagan religion.

Acts 15:28-29
(28) For it seemed good to the Holy Spirit and to us to lay on you no greater burden than these necessary things:
(29) that you abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which, if you keep yourselves, you shall do well. Be prospered.

How many evangelicals are interested in this?

You'd be surprised at how many of our chicken and turkey processing plants are islamist submissive. Many of them are in rural areas supporting islamist communities where they can get lots of target practice and tactical training.

Well, Paul wasn’t the author here in Acts, Luke probably was. Paul was for the passage about meats offered to idols in 1 Corinthians 8:10.

KFC does not kill its chickens, they buy them dead.
Did you read the note?
They don’t certify anything, this about a third party.
Statement: “KFC Corporation does not provide certification that our products meet Halal requirements. The flyer in the Houston restaurant contains an outside organization’s representations regarding a supplier’s products and practices.”

How many Muslims who do not currently eat at KFC will start? How many decent Americans who currently eat KFC will boycott? My money is on this being a bad business decision.

I have lists of foods to avoid that contain the neurotoxin MSG because I am highly reactive to it. It says that no food at KFC is safe.

Just another reason to avoid it.
