The killings of the US ambassador to Libya and three other American diplomats in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi Tuesday underscore how anti-authoritarian revolutions across the Arab world have unleashed extremist Islamist forces violently opposed to America and its ideals.
The big question for the United States, and its only been made more urgent by these events, is how to adjust to a world where [moderate Muslim] governments have paved the way for more extremist elements to wield their influence, says Patrick Clawson, director of research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy in Washington. Its not a good dynamic, but its not going away and has to be addressed.
The American ambassador, Chris Stevens, was killed in the same city of eastern Libya where he had set up shop as the US envoy to the Libyan rebels as they fought to oust Americas longtime nemesis, strongman Muammar Qaddafi. Ambassador Stevens and the three other Americans were killed when a mob infuriated by an anti-Islam video made in the US stormed the Benghazi mission and burned it to the ground.

No, it isn’t turning against us. For that to happen, it would have had to be for us at one point. They’ve always been against us. Khadaffi and Mubarak, for all their warts, kept the Islamics in check. Obama unleashed them.
Islamists were never going to be OUR friends. But, they seem to be Obama’s favorites.
It was ALWAYS against us.
People will always gladly accept the rope from you, to hang you with later.
Islam is antithetical to democracy and free speech. How could it not turn?
Muslims are either under the boot of a dictator or at the throat of the US and her allies.
No one could have possibly seen this coming...
UNEXPECTED
SURPRISING
Ya think???
Stevie Wonder could have seen it coming.
How's Obama's Arab Spring workin' out for ya, Chris?
This never was about an Arab Spring, but about a muslim springboard!
I was going to make a comment but you already posted exactly what I thought.
There were a lot of us here on FR who were asking what in hell were we and NATO doing helping these radical Muslims.
Yes, Qadafi was awful and so is Asaad but the people we helped put in place are even worse.
“No, it isnt turning against us. For that to happen, it would have had to be for us at one point. Theyve always been against us.”
Precisely.
And the fool Obama was on of the “Arab Spring’s” biggest proponents.
It was never for us.
Now we are patting one another on the back for getting rid of another despot, Mubarak. The MB is now in charge. What that means for the US and the region could be another disaster. Israel will be deeply affected as the Egyptians are allowing all kinds of weapons and terrorists into Gaza.
Obama failed to take the lead on having any influence on how this revolution takes place. The MB are really the only organized group and their influence spreads throughout the region. Egypt could become the new center of Pan-Islam. We are living in dangerous times and we have a radical Marxist in the WH.
This arab spring thing is just one of Obama’s orchestrated, choreographed and conducted projects in building and consolidating his North African caliphate. Being muslim, he knows exactly what he is doing, and at America’s expense.
Strategically, his goal was to encapsulate Israel. Soon they will take a run at it and if they find it easy going, then they will take another run at America.
Worst part? Obama has a penchant for dictators and “rulers” and the alien/muslim feels the same should be for America. It will be a bitch prying his ass from the White House. I believe he will attempt to hang on to power at any cost.
