Some pertinent information leaked out through Obama's misinformation campaign. Please read the article to get the sense that this was NO accident or spontaneous outbreak.

Hmmm....

Interestingly, Smith was also a respected debate and discussions moderator on the Something Awful site.

“Gaming” is a sanctioned activity for DOS employees abroad, in a near-war zone, a sanctioned use for DOS-issued electronics?

Hey, come into the 21st century. Computer time is cheap; bandwidth is cheap. Giving our folks something fun to do in their downtime when stuck in third-world hellholes is worth letting them amuse themselves online with spare computer time (if he really was using DOS hardware and not his own).

For centuries, people played chess -- in part to hone strategic-thinking skills. Many of today's electronic games are very sophisticated simulations. Not only should any employees involved with strategy be allowed to play these games; perhaps they should be required to play them.

I’m perplexed about the vulnerability of the embassy personnel.

Things are not "right" about this.

Why should we be surprised when this administration has the Border Patrol defending themselves with Bean Bags.

As in, “Something awful this way comes?”

Sounds like a prepper.

First of all, “gaming” isn’t gaming. I understand the war-gaming concept just fine. “Gaming” not only suggests but was explicitly described as online sci-fi/fantasy/whatever. Of course, it’s an appropriate, maybe even useful leisure activity, especially for policy wonks. But in the middle of an attack (”Gunfire”)? Further, his “gaming” partner (at least one of them) knew his identity. You don’t consider any of that as security-sensitive? Lastly, those I know in CERTAIN government services are permitted no personal internet access (including personal email), AT ALL, on government computers and no personal cell phone use on certain secure government property. And that goes for offices here as well as at offices abroad. I’m just aghast that business-as-usual freedoms weren’t remotely curtailed in what any idiot would classify as a war-zone on September 11, of all dates.

This is especially true of EVE Online, the game the DOS official played. EVE has been called sometimes derisively “Excel in space”. It’s a game where long term strategy and planning can pay real dividends.

Apparently, this DOS official was quite influential in the game, where everyone plays on a single server from all over the world.

So did he report what he saw? Did he tell any American security person that they were being surveilled? No, they love us! They just hated Bush.

Do the Marine Guard on today’s Embassy Duty have ammo readily at hand or are we more worried about making sure the IRS etal agents have ammo here in the ‘big Gedunk’?

Of course we know the ‘real enemy of the state’ is the Vet that helped make it possible to allow these idiots in charge run things.

We found out the answer to your question today. The Marines were told to NOT carry live ammo. Brilliant.

I won’t even TRY to tell you I ‘knew that’ BUT it sure doesn’t surprise me.

We continue, as a country, to sacrifice our troops for the sake of politicians, I will go back to exposing our Sailors and Marines to direct radiation in the Atom Tests in late 40’s and early 50’s, and will just cite USS Liberty (AGTR-5) and USS Pueblo (AGER-2) as 2 ships that were sacrificed in the name of political correctness/pols saving face.
Go back to WWII and sampling LSD on our young troops - to see the side effects - Yes, some thought they could fly.

We are coming full cycle....there was a day when virile young MEN went off to war to protect a nation. Of course, in the ranks, were some that weren’t quite sure if they were men or not (at least sexually)but as long as they kept to themselves etc they survived.
Women (other than nurses) were for the most part in the rear freeing the ‘virile men’ to do battle for God and Country.

The future shows that the Military will be manned by and lead by Females and Gays of all persuasion.

Guess the ‘virile young men’ will be forced to sit in the background and not speak of their virtues or likes/dislikes.

Yes, the ‘Road to Hell’ is not only paved with good intentions, but a lot of gross stupidity.

A ray of hope: My son is in the Army right now. I have not met a finer bunch of young men that is the VOLUNTEER military force of today.
