As the summer driving season comes to an end, motorists who were hoping gas prices would fall are instead getting hit with a big jump, especially in the Northeast.
The average price of a gallon of regular gas increased 1.5 cents nationally for the second straight day, taking it to $3.86 in AAA's latest reading Wednesday. The back-to-back price moves follow what had been a lull in gas price activity after an August run-up in prices caused by Gulf Coast refinery disruptions as Hurricane Isaac approached.
Prices had been expected to retreat quickly once the Gulf region's facilities came back online. But Tom Kloza, chief analyst at the Oil Price Information Service, said the retreat in prices following the storm is being delayed because Isaac hit so close to Sept. 15.

Outside Chicago it’s 4.29/gal
Still a modest $3.68.9 in Hampton Roads, VA.
3.99 a gallon in Minneapolis...
I just bought a little 4 banger to supplement my 3/4 ton van.
100 bucks every day or two in the tank hurts to much to continue.
Little car cost me 4 tanks of gas. should pay for it’s self in no time.
Our houses are worth less, our retirements are worth less, we pay more at the pumps.......we are less safe...the country is almost bankrupt
Obama doesn’t care, he never has to pay for gas or his million dollar vacations.
And not only is Obama still in the white house.. There is enough people willing to vote for him to send him back!
The uninformed voters will re-elect a Obama. The media manipulates a bunch of dummies.
>> we are less safe...the country is almost bankrupt...
Yeah, but we’re green, gender-interchangeable, and diverse!
(in fact, da longer Barky has the helm, diverse it gets.)
This is Affirmative Action President at work. He is Simon Says with the country and media. Most people follow blindly without a brain.
Come on down to Texas. Paid “just” $3.51.9 in Houston suburbs. Generally about a dime higher in the city though.
>> Most people follow blindly without a brain.
Chin up! Some do; but I respectfully submit that MOST do NOT.
The Kenyan’s going DOWN in November.
I pray you are right. Dick Morris agrees with you!
I want it to be $8 or more per gallon the week before election day, just to drive the point home.
Gas was $1.49 in midstate PA on the day when the Kenyan raised his paw to steal the oath of office.
$3.95 today, up TWENTY-THREE PER CENT from the year’s low of $3.19 on July 1.
$3.49 in Hill Country today.
I live near the coast in Washington state. Mid grade has been over $4.20 for several weeks. At one place I saw it at $4.50.
We love traveling around our country and have done so for more than 40 years. I now tow an Airstream trailer.
It is common for us to spend as much as 5k+ on our 30 day vacation. This year, for the first time, we stayed home. Instead, we are working on our property, out on our boat fishing and spending far less money. Oh, I have been killing the Coho Salmon run. ;>)
Thanks to Obama and his filthy democrats, another 5k+ has been kept out of our economy this summer.
Obama has got to go.....
we must drive many miles to grocery shop, doctor apps. even to attend church..forget our volunteering any longer...miles add up to empty tanks...sad..really sad...never have I seen the economy so bad. even under Carter..
Please vote Obama out of power...
when GWB was President, the MSM daily trashed GWB on the gas prices and the number of dead Military in Iraq...
now under B.Hussein O. the MSM remains quiet about fuel prices and the number of dead in Afghanistan..
WHY DO THEY COVER FOR THIS MAN??DOES HE THREATEN THEIR FAMILIES LIKE AXELROD HAS BEEN REPORTED DOING TO POLL TAKERS..
Well, Chicago is one up on Seattle. Regular 89 octane gas is $4.22. It cost me over $85.00 to fill the tank of my Dodge Caravan and it wasn’t completely empty. It so expensive I can’t afford to go anyplace after I got it filled.
$3.49 in Hill Country today.”
We were out your way over Labor Day. Stayed at Stablewood Springs in Hunt. Beautiful place and looked at some property but just a little pricey for us. River was way down and limited to one man kayaks but everything else looked a lot greener than last summer.
When will Baraq initiate EBT for the gas pump?
Thanks tobyhill. OPEC is the enemy, but OPEC has plenty of shills.
What gets me is how fast and large the moves have become. It went from 3.77 to 3.99 in a matter of hours.
I've heard good things about those chevettes.
A modest $3.68.9 was sarcasm.”
It’s interesting how the frog in the water thing has been so successful. I can remember when gas was $.25 a gallon but we would wait a day or two because Hudson Oil would always start a gas war and it would go down to $.19. Not too long ago I was real excited when it dropped to $3.22 for a day or so and made sure I topped my tank off while it was “only....”
Grams, you might be my age. I, too, remember the gas wars of the 1950s and 19c/gallon. I used to buy retread tires for $6 or $7 that fit my 1941 Olds. That was the time that McDonalds had 15-cent hamburgers, soon to inflate to 18 cents. I cut lawns for $1.00/hour.
It’s actually the car that replaced the chevette.. The caviler model year 2000.
I cut lawns for $1.00/hour.”
Wow, you made the big bucks. I had my first job in 1955 or 1956, $.76 an hour typing collection letters on a manual typewriter. I could type 80 wpm so my boss was impressed and increased my pay to $.80 an hour after I was there a month. Wasn’t quite old enough to work but my mom lied about my age because everybody in the family needed to work. The $7.60 might not seem like a lot but it really helped out in those days.
We never went out to eat so I don’t know if there was a McDonalds or not.
After reading the article, the prices become doubly infuriating: The Gov’t can’t even design a regulation to switch from the more expensive summer gas blend to the cheaper winter gas blend without causing a spike in prices as the change occurs. Idiots!
If you think gas is high now, just wait until he’s finished
emptying the Strategic Petroleum Reserve.
I’m surprised that car made it through the governments war on good used cars a couple years ago.
If Bush were still in office, the press would be pounding on this 24/7. Since, “The One” is President, stone silence. The press does its major damage to conservatives, not just by what it reports, but what it refuses to even talk about.
I agree 100%. They are the prime sleezdogs in the world. But at least they are losing viewers every day.
the cavalier? it’s average MPG is to high to have qualified for CC.
