Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc., the privately held arts and crafts retail chain, on Wednesday filed a lawsuit against the Obama administration for its controversial HHS mandate requiring that all employers provide birth control coverage to their employees.
By being required to make a choice between sacrificing our faith or paying millions of dollars in fines, we essentially must choose which poison pill to swallow, said CEO and founder David Green. We simply cannot abandon our religious beliefs to comply with this mandate.
How much did Green say his company would have to pay in fines?
David Green says hell have to pay as much as $1.3 million in daily fines if he doesnt pay for types of contraception he and other evangelicals morally oppose, including the so-called morning after pill [emphasis added], the Washington Times reports.
Whats notable about Mr. Greens decision is that not only is Hobby Lobby now the largest company to sue the Obama administrations over its HHS mandate, but its also the first non-Catholic-owned business to do so.
And Mr. Green certainly runs a Christian-style business.
Hobby Lobby stores are never open on Sunday and the chains website attributes its continued success to its practice of honoring the Lord in a manner consistent with biblical principles.
Washington politicians cannot force families to abandon their faith just to earn a living, said Lori Windham, Senior Counsel, Becket Fund for Religious Liberty. Every American, including family business owners like the Greens, should be free to live and do business according to their religious beliefs.
Started in 1972 in a 300-square-foot retail space in Oklahoma, Mr. Greens business has grown into a nationwide enterprise that spans more than 40 states.
It is by Gods grace and provision that Hobby Lobby has endured, said Green. Therefore we seek to honor God by operating the company in a manner consistent with Biblical principles.
The conflict for me is that our family is being forced to choose between following the laws of the country that we love or maintaining the religious beliefs that have made our business successful and have supported our family and thousands of our employees and their families, he added.
Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. filed its lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma.
There are now 28 separate lawsuits challenging the HHS mandate, which is a regulation under the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare), according to a press release from the non-profit, public-interest law firm The Becket Fund.
These HHS challenges were not affected by the Supreme Courts June 28th ruling on the constitutionality of the individual mandate, the release adds.
No word yet on whether federal officials have issued an apology for hurting Mr. Greens religious feelings.
4th or 5th post of this story.
It’s actually the third, but the first from this source. Do you have a problem with that?
Don't worry about it, they posted it for me. I hadn't seen it yet.
Glad I did.
First they demand unlimited free contraception and abortions for every slut in America. Next we will have to pay for sex change operations. All the while, diabetics, cancer patients, and cardiac patients will still have to pay deductibles and co-pays for medications just to stay alive.
Like radio, the traffic on FR turns over at regular intervals. If you have scene a story before, DON”T CLICK ON IT! Problem solved.
99 times out 100, I do a title search. Nothing came up.
Thanks for posting. This is the first time I’ve seen this.
Me too. The nearest Hobby Lobby is about .30 miles to the South. Time for a road trip!
First I have seen of this story.....thanks for (re)posting!!
My wife, crafty person that she is, shops there quite often.
Now we will have to give them more of our business.
If I was a business owner I’d pass out ‘birth control nickels’ to the ladies, especially the single ones, with instructions on their proper use.
I have a list posted on my refrigerator of “no buy” companies and brands. Whenever my eleven-year-old grandson comes over he checks the list to make sure neither Hobby Lobby or Chick-filet-A haven’t made it yet. Both are his fav places to go and he can spend an entire afternoon at Hobby Lobby just looking at things. Of course we never have come away empty handed.
My father used to tell me that the best form of birth control was two aspirins, one held firmly between the thighs and the other held firmly between the knees.
Ooh, thanks for the reminder Grams! The only Chik-Fil-A in my area is right near the Hobby Lobby. Road trip AND lunch!!!
9 times out of 10, the title search won’t show anything. I could do a keyword search for “Clinton” and it brings up nothing.
No matter how it turns out, BaraqqiCare is guaranteed to be a “full employment” program for high priced attorneys.
