Womens reproductive rights took center stage in the U.S. Senate race Monday, as a pro-choice group took aim at Republican candidate Linda McMahon over her support of a bill that would have allowed employers to refuse to cover contraception for their employees.
The campaigns have been vying for the support of female voters, who did not get behind McMahon in her 2010 Senate bid.
In a Monday afternoon conference call hosted by Christian Miron, the director of the NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut, the state branch of the national pro-choice advocacy organization. Miron scored McMahon for saying she would have supported the Blunt amendment. The failed U.S. Senate bill would have allowed employers to refuse to cover contraception costs as part of employee health plans, based on moral or religious grounds.
Miron called it an extremist proposal, and said that McMahons support shows that she cannot be trusted to protect access to reproductive health care. A vote for Linda McMahon is a vote against reproductive rights and access to womens health care, Miron said.
On the issue of a womans right to choose, McMahon has intentionally left her position vague, Miron said. The only times that she has talked about reproductive freedom, it has been to espouse extremist anti-choice policies, he said. NARAL has endorsed Murphy, a Congressman who represents the western part of the state. Miron said his press conference was not organized at the request of the Murphy campaign.

DEM Murphy is a sure fillibuster against any GOP SCOTUS nominee. I agree with NARAL, that McMahon is a threat to their agenda.
I’ve really been impressed with McMahon. She’s tough, smart, and understands business. I don’t know all of her positions, and suspect there would be some where I disagree with her. Still, she looks to be measurably better than the departing Joe Lieberman and surely will be far better than Murphy.
she sure isn’t running as an idealogue, but pro-business message is getting thru. Better than anything else the CT GOP has thrown our way the past 2 decades.
All she has to say is “NARAL will never support me no matter what position I take on abortion.”
I agree... and Linda's been running some great ads this time. Love her Ferris Bueller "Murphy... Murphy..." radio ads! LOL
Link to radio ad is in article above.
where exactly is that quote from Linda?
Tom, we have no upstate vote to balance out the downstate CT vote.
Let me see if I have this straight.
A Democrat/Commie wuss, um, I mean a Democrat/Commie man, is claiming that McMahon, the female Republican candidate, is part of the 'Republican war on women', but he has not coordinated his slapfest with the Murphy campaign.
Right, I believe that, sure, it makes perfect sense to me.
