For the first time in five years, Florida policymakers are looking at a horizon free of projected budget shortfalls, thanks to growing tax collections and cuts to spending on classrooms, road-building and the state's social safety net.
The state's top economist told the Joint Legislative Budget Commission on Wednesday that lawmakers and Gov. Rick Scott would have more flexibility next year when they write a new budget than at any time since 2007 -- a product of deep "recurring" cuts enacted over the years, and the slow economic recovery.

And Scott is HATED in this state. HATED by a large majority (that’s what they tell us on the news).
Those who have been receiving unemployment for almost 4 years (I know one personally) do not care about a budget surplus. They are annoyed that they now have to prove they’ve tried to seek employment.
The Slantinel must be sick writing this. Can hardly wait to see what the Tampa Bay Times (St. Petersburg (Pravda) Times) has to say. They never have a good word to say about Scott.
But, but, but... Rethugs are EEEEVIL... but, but...
Gee,that's an easy one to call...
Lead story will be about how the budget surplus has impacted women and minorities negatively ...
And I am sure somewhere in there will be a sub-story on Scott being sued by the Clinton administration for not paying them off...err..I mean not playing by the rules

A surplus means that they are collecting too much. A compensatory tax adjustment is in order. Unlike the RATs, who would adjust with a spending increase!

The new motor vehicle fees that took affect circa 2010 have one extremely family unfriendly aspect.
We have been charged a title fee of in excess of $75 when purchasing a vehicle. Fine.
What is absolute thievery is when that same fee is assessed with in-family transfers, mostly dictated by auto insurance companies.
Case and point here:
A teenager get his/her first vehicle. The 16/17 year olds name is on the title jointly with parent. Insurance mandates parents name on title to be on family policy.
Teenager reaches age 18 and would like to be independent, get own insurance, and that new insurer wants the parent’s name OFF title. Whammo another $77 fee.
Please propose an exemption or reduced fee for transfers within blood families especially when all that is involved is the removal of a name from a title, not even a true transfer at all. The old title fee was $25 ish before 2010.
Without even having to define ‘blood family’ the state could accomplish this by lowering or removing the fee for a simply ‘name removal’ from title.
