Timeline: Obama Admin Took 16 Hours to Disavow Embassy Apology
Breitbart: Big Government ^ | 9-13-12 | John Sexton

A timeline of yesterday's events shows that it took the Obama administration 16 hours to disavow a statement posted on the US Embassy in Cairo website. It appears that the administration's failure to correct the embassy and the doubling down by embassy staff 13 hours after the statement was published prompted Mitt Romney's curt comments about the administration's response.

Here is a partial timeline of events. All times are Eastern Standard Time (EST), 6 hours earlier than Cairo time.

5:50AM - Cairo Embassy publishes a statement on its website which rejects those who "abuse" free speech. This is a reference to an anti-Islam film, portions of which have been broadcast on TV in Arabic. The entire speech is tweeted out line by line on the Embassy account.

1:42PM - The Associated Press tweets word of an attack on the Cairo Embassy. The US flag is pulled down and replaced with a black Islamic flag.

5:28PM - Cairo Embassy tweets out three defensive comments, the last of which doubles down on the initial statement. It reads "3) Sorry, but neither breaches of our compound or angry messages will dissuade us from defending freedom of speech AND criticizing bigotry." To this point there has been no comment, tweet, or statement defending free speech, only the statement/tweet criticizing those who abuse it.

7:00-7:20PM - The Embassy puts out another tweet tripling down on their initial statement. "This morning's condemnation (issued before the protests began) still stands. As does our condemnation of unjustified breach of the Embassy." This tweet is later deleted.

8:06PM - AP reports an attack on the US Embassy in Benghazi, Libya has resulted in one death and one injury.

10:09PM - The Romney camp sends ~snip~

why would the embassy issue a tweet BEFORE the protests against the amateur movie? Am I missing something? Apparently this movie has been out for a while and only now on 911 we get the muzzies up in a tear?

To the hostile msm mob who interrogated Mitt Romney yesterday, his answer should have been: “As an American, I felt someone needed to speak up because there was no response from the White House for 16 hours in this crisis.”

If Romney can’t learn to shift attention to the failures of the worst president we’ve ever had in every one of these distraction operations by the media, he will lose in Nov.

i see the timeline from 5:50a through 11:50p

during this period, i see no mention of 0bama’s response.

does this mean during that 18 hour period he made no response?

when did he finally respond??

Hillary and Obama are to Blame

Our intelligence knew about the attacks

Yet no extra security for 9-11 in Muslim countries.

when did he finally respond??

One minute after Romney gave out his press release.

If Romney had remained quiet I'm certain that the administration would have done nothing about the tweets. Here is the critical part of the timeline:

"10:09PM - The Romney camp sends out a brief statement which reads, "I'm outraged by the attacks on American diplomatic missions in Libya and Egypt and by the death of an American consulate worker in Benghazi. It's disgraceful that the Obama Administration's first response was not to condemn attacks on our diplomatic missions, but to sympathize with those who waged the attacks." The statement is embargoed until midnight.

10:10PM - Politico reports an unnamed Obama administration official is disavowing the statement posted on the US Embassy website, claiming it was unauthorized. No explanation is offered why the embassy was still pushing it as of 7PM.

~10:25PM - The Romney camp sends out another email ending the embargo on its statement."

Well, it takes a while to get a focus group together... (ROFL)

And to hire a czar to formulate a response and have it vetted by Jarret.

I read on Pamela Geller’s site that the movie had been on youtube since last year. I don’t believe an old youtube video caused a spotaneous attack months later.

There is something mysterious about that film. It’s pathetically amateurish. Even the actors in the movie seem confused about it and claim they were conned. Is it possible that Obama cronies were behind the movie? Maybe they wanted to use it to quell religious freedom and speech, just as they tried to use Fast and Furious to undermine the 2nd Amendment. Maybe they wanted to cause a stir in the Muslim world that could be blamed on rightwing Christians in the United States. David Axelrod is a Marxist and a professional astroturfer. Creating the appearance of reality is what he is paid to do. Just a thought.

16 hours. Isn’t that the same amount of time Barry took to decide to let the Navy Seal snipers shoot the terrorists holding that boat captain?

He had already passed on the matter twice in the six months preceding the final raid.

16 hours to make a decision it would take any average citizen 10 seconds to make.

What a man!!!

an “unnamed official” isn’t 0bama. when did 0bama actually make an official statement?

how long after the attacks started? did he completely condemn?

was the ambassador already dead?
