An online petition calling for the removal of Chick-fil-A from the Marshall Student Center (MSC) has received considerable feedback both support and backlash - from the USF community.
Though only a little over 100 signatures have been added to the petition on Change.org since last week (the petition had 771 signatures as of Wednesday night), it has received strong reactions.
Scott Ferguson, an assistant professor in the Department of Humanities and Cultural Studies, created the petition.
As news of the petitions existence has spread, he said he received negative feedback including bigoted emails from other USF professors, negative messages to his personal cell phone and a hate fax from a number he said he thinks is from within the university.

Of course a USF professor would do this, Jonathan Vasquez wrote on The Oracles Facebook page. This is ridiculous. Its the most affordable option on campus; why would he try to take that away from students simply because he doesnt agree with the CEO?
Though cheap chicken was most important to many students, some felt that Chick-fil-A also has the right to operate under whatever values they want.
So USF should ban anyone who doesnt meet their definition of diversity? Stewart Collins wrote on The Oracles Facebook page. You start banning a company or group because they have a set of values (mind you they havent discriminated anyone because of their sexual orientation) and you open Pandoras Box. If you dont agree with Chick-fil-A, dont go there....

So why is an assistant professor handing out recognition plaques? That is the deans job.
Good question.. Maybe the Dean isn’t that Uppity about a ‘Liberal Arts’ division? o.O
40 years ago you could get a job with a high school diploma.”
Very, very true. Attended high school is a small rural community in Kansas. Only 2 of my classmates went on to college right out of high school - one to be a dentist, the other a doctor. Most of the rest of us went but in the evenings and weekends because we had great full-time jobs during the workday. We actually learned how to do something useful in our classes.
Employers also didn’t require drug tests or ask if we had had a felony. So much has changed in addition to the curriculum and educational standards.
Thanks for all those pics! Fast work ;-)
“This idiot should be drummed out of any real university.”
That idiot is what comprises the majority of what is called professors at almost every Univeristy.
Wonder how much the taxpayers of CA coughed up to make this trip for all these perfessers.
Because we know that there are no beaches, sandy or full of shells, anywhere in CA.

Still a pricey resort ...

Sunlight is a disinfectant. Maybe it’s time we illuminated the cockroaches out of academe and into somewhere they belong...
Acceptance and diversity brings back such sweet memories of my college days in Northern California in the early seventies. The age of the birth of soul food to the general population. Couldnt get enough people, even blacks, to eat all that fried stuff nor eat collard greens? Solution was easy. The only food served on campus was soul food! The move made the owner of the local burger joint rich and darned near busted the school cafeteria!
A Lib wants change, they’ll choose how you’ll do it!
Yes, that’s the truth...
