On Thursday,New York City's Board of Health approved Mayor Michael Bloomber's plan to ban large sugary drinks. The proposal was approved in a 8-0 vote. One member, Dr. Sixto Caro abstained from voting.

The unprecedented regulation, which was proposed in the spring, will apply to all restaurants, fast-food joints, delis, movie theaters, Broadway theaters, workplace cafeterias, sports stadium and food carts. All of these businesses will not be allowed to sell sugary drinks including non-diet sodas, teas and even certain coffees that are larger than 16 oz. …

Next we’ll have a soda speakeasy in every neighborhood.

“Who sent you?”
“Joey Plugs”
“Come on in.”

They think 11 is old enough and mature enough for sex, but not for soda

This should cut down on the crime rate in the city. It’s hard to carry two 8 oz drinks and a gun at the same time.

You'll notice they didn't limit the size of malt liquors.

About 500 people, with 2 liter, sugary soft drinks...soak the streets with the soda all around the city hall. If the flies and ants don’t get them, the stickyness will.

" Where's the outrage? This Big Brother law is Unamerican, and should be laughed at and defied until it is repealed... "

Absolutely!

The proper response to this is for businesses to openly and publicly defy this law. Hang a sign out saying we will serve any freakin size drink you want to buy, up to and including a 55 gallon drum. Any regulators want to come in and stop us? Just remember who signs YOUR paycheck you jackasses.

Does NYC tax sodas? Because if it does, the last laugh is Bloomburg’s when folks simply start purchasing two sodas instead of one. The city is now collecting double the tax revenue on sodas!

You nailed it! ~ NYC does tax bottled soda, so two 12 oz. = two times the sales tax...

I’m glad Bloomie realizes his people can’t think for themselves when it comes to nutrition.

Unfortunately I’m afraid he will still let them vote.....

“New York City’s Board of Health approved Mayor Michael Bloomber’s plan to ban large sugary drinks. The proposal was approved in a 8-0 vote.”

That’s all it takes for the nanny statists to impose its will on 8 million people. 8 unelected bureaucrats.

That was my thought, too. All the fast food places are self-serve on the drinks. If you order a large are they going to watch you to make sure you only get Diet Coke?

NYC has plenty of money, right?
They can hire a couple thousand city soft drink monitors.
Helps the unemployment rate too.

Reading this story made me thirsty so I ran out and got 64 a ounce big gulp.

What's not to like. Think of the exercise you will get running back and forth to the bathroom.
