Dog stands guard over deceased owner’s grave for six years

An extremely dedicated dog has continued to show its loyalty, keeping watch on its owner's grave six years after he passed away. Capitan, a German shepherd, reportedly ran away from home after its owner, Miguel Guzman, died in 2006. A week later, the Guzman family found the dog sitting by his grave in central Argentina.

Miguel Guzman adopted Capitan in 2005 as a gift for his teenage son, Damian. And for the past six years, Capitan has continued to stand guard at Miguel's grave. The family says the dog rarely leaves the site. "We searched for him, but he had vanished," widow Veronica Guzman told LaVoz.com. "We thought he must have got run over and died. 'The following Sunday we went to the cemetery, and Damian recognized his pet. Capitan came up to us, barking and wailing as if he were crying."

Adding to the unusual circumstances, Veronica says the family never brought Capitan to the cemetery before he was discovered there. "It is a mystery how he managed to find the place," she said. Cemetery director Hector Baccega says he and his staff have begun feeding and taking care of Capitan. "He turned up here one day, all on his own, and started wandering all around the cemetery until he eventually found the tomb of his master," Baccega said. ...excerpt

Like Greyfriar’s Bobby...

Another great dog. I thought the same thing when I read the article.

When I was away on TDY, my dog would curl up around my shoes. He was a chocolate lab and died in 2006. I really, really miss that dog.

...even if done secretly by the graveyard caretakers.

(If we knew, here on FR, so would the legalistas, and then the dog would be disinterred and not able to guard his human. Someone, maybe a jealous libtard, would demand retribution/justice/disrespect.)

I don't want to spend the rest of eternity without dogs, either. Will Rogers once said "If dogs don't go to heaven, then when I die I want to go where they go."

You know what? I think that’s about the best thing I’ve read in a while. It’s been a long time since I’ve had the companionship of a dog but she was about as awesome a friend as I could ask for.

Thanks for this. Really.

Cheers!

I can tell you from experience that a lot of older folks who have no pets because of room, finances or other restrictions, NEED an animal to visit with at least once a week.

The attrition rate in senior establishments is complicated by the fact that a lot of seniors are not aware of therapy pets and therefore, their lives are shortened.

Some go to “long-term care” facilities (read: death houses) and literally give up. What have they got to live for? But don’t get me started! LOL!

If I had the room, I would request a therapy pet and take s/he/it to every senior facility I could reach! (Providing I had a vehicle!) Dogs and cats should NEVER be under-rated! They are natural healers. God gave them to us because He couldn’t be Everywhere, nor could He be a Mother. So He gave us angels disguised as pets.

Book of Romans.

19 For [even the whole] creation (all nature) waits expectantly and longs earnestly for God’s sons to be made known [waits for the revealing, the disclosing of their sonship].

20 For the creation (nature) was subjected to frailty (to futility, condemned to frustration), not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of Him Who so subjected it—[yet] with the hope

21 That nature (creation) itself will be set free from its bondage to decay and corruption [and gain an entrance] into the glorious freedom of God’s children.

“It’s a mystery how he found the place...”
Dogs know things, things that we will never know.At least in this life.

That reminds me of the similar photo of a lab(?)
lying beside the casket of his Marine human. Devastating.

About once every three or four months, i go to mark levin’s
website and read the stories on the dog corner,i think its called. i read some of them and bawl my head off. Very
cathartic, I guess!

A book I read a couple of years ago had me laughing and crying at the same time.

A dog, no particular breed, named Enzo tells his story. The book is “The Art of Racing in the Rain: My Life as a Dog” by Garth Stein.

Most dog lovers would enjoy it.

Dogs are VERY special... always a loving friend.

Woe betide anybody that would eat one. They will get Short Shrift (in November)!

Yes you are correct, my dog and I visited with a man last Saturday in an assisted living facility and he broke my heart. His mind was obviously intact but he had to live there because physically he could not take care of himself. He was so miserable and bored I wanted to cry.

Some of the people can't speak but you can see from their expressions how much they appreciate the dog visit. Hairy and I have been doing this for over a year now and I plan to continue.

The patients don't always tell us how much they enjoy the visits but almost always we will be followed out by a staff member thanking us for coming and telling us how much we raise everyone’s spirits.

I love the dedication of pets to owners. This is an extreme case but admirable none the less. His human will be waiting for him at the rainbow bridge.
