House passes spending bill to avoid government shutdown
Yahoo News ^ | 14 September 2012 | Chris Moody

Returning to Washington for a brief session between their summer recess and fall campaign season, the House of Representatives on Thursday passed a spending bill funding the government into the next year. The funding extension, known as a Continuing Resolution (CR), keeps to the $1.047 trillion spending agreement reached between the parties and avoids a government shutdown until March 27, 2013, nearly five months after the November election. The federal government has continually relied on short-term funding extensions since 2009, the last time the Democrat-controlled Senate passed a traditional budget plan that set spending levels.

I have not seen a thing about this on Free Republic which I am kinda surprised. Paul Ryan even voted yes to this. How are we going to fix the budget if Republicans are even voting for spending?

Just heard Stuart Varney on Fox say that gas prices have already begun to head up. Time for Romney and Ryan to hammer on energy independence, the pipeline, drilling, etc.

This was explained by Sen Jim DeMint on WMAL 105.9 FM on July 18th. The CR is for only 6 months. After Romney and the new Congress is sworn in, this crap will be fixed. This is to avoid a bad deal in lame duck session by as DeMint described “weak Republicans”. People need to learn the facts before wetting their pants.

Oddly, I would have voted yes at this time too.

With current world events escalating....Romney is going to need some financial wiggle room come January. If we are to vote for Romney, if we're to trust Romney...this six month extension is a hill of beans.

Every corporate take over needs some working cash. While this is talking about the country, I am willing to take this risk for now. Six months from now? There had better be a serious budget about to be put in place. No matter what the world circumstances are.

So does this avoid the sequestration that was supposed to kick in January 1st?

They'll never get it past the filibuster in the Senate.

I believe it does. I know those government workers are thrilled. lol. And it seems some Republicans here are happy to give Romney money to spend....Ugh.

Do you really think that a Romney administration and the Republican leadership we have in Congress have the backbone to allow that to happen? They'd cave first.

If the Republicans had stood up to this now, Obama and the the Democrats would have whined and used this to generate rage against the Republicans and Romney to great effect just in time for the election. There is no way the Republicans should have fought this fight right now. This could have cost us the election.

Imagine Obama saying ‘the Republicans won’t compromise on a budget. This is costing us jobs, etc....’

A complete shutdown of the Government would be a welcome event, and the savings from non-interference with business, stop taking Taxpayer earnings, get the dead-wood/make-work lackeys of the SEIU into the un-Employed ranks, where they are actually QUALIFIED. So many benefits, so little chance.

Just trying to inject some reality into your rose-coloured vision of the world. Stating that 'it will all be fixed' just because Romney wins ignores the fact that the Democrats will be just as obstructive to him and just as dedicated to making him a one-term president as the Republicans were with Obama. Yeah, I believe a Romney presidency is far preferable to a second Obama term. But I don't for a moment believe that spending will be cut or the deficit will drop or unemployment will shrink just because he gets elected. Sorry if that upsets you.

When has government shrunken ? It’s always grown especially in the last 100 years. Even Reagan who was the most anti-government person ever couldn’t do it. Every year gov explodes at all levels, more laws , more regulations, more agencies , more programs at all levels.

What’s your solution since you have all of them? All you can do it bash the Republican to help Obama.

CSPAN was on at the gym afterwork yesterday and they covered this House vote so I followed it.

My understanding from their interviews is that while this CR covers 6 months (half of FY13) till end of March and it does increase some spending it does not address or cancel the automatic budget cuts Dec/jan, which apply to whatever the current budget will be.

Now they could have simply repealed those automatic cuts in this bill, but both sides appear to want those to remain an election issue.

Alternatively if they are worried about this CR spending too much then that is fixed.

Why is it when somebody speaks the TRUTH, you say it is helping Obama. Perhaps if the Republicans would do what is right then we would not have to complain.

You just admitted my point. The claim that a Romney win will fix everything is naive. As you yourself admitted, regardless of who wins there will be more government, more spending, more deficits, more regulation. A Romney win may slow the process slightly. But it won't fix anything.

But enough about me, what's your solution? Since I'm so wrong about everything?

Okay, fine. Given that it's been 3+ years since the President has signed an actual budget into law, I'm guessing these Continuing Resolutions have been happening like clockwork all along in the Republican-controlled House. True?

If so, WHY?! (I'd ask my Congressman but, he's a liberal Pelosi puppet.) Are there just so many career politicians on the Hill, so completely devoid of any spine, so unwilling to take a stand for the future of the nation, that they refuse to even consider shutting down (only the non-essential services of) the federal government--because of what, the fear of how they'll be portrayed in the media? And how that might cost them some votes??!!!!!

Is your Obama behaving like Chavez and giving a million illegals Amnesty by decree your solution. Obama needs to be replaced.

Obama is an enemy of America. Is Romney? no . look at their responses to this Islamic attack against America you democrat.

No one can make the world perfect at this point but Obama has to be stopped. you think your Obama borrowing 6 trilion $ won't collapse the U.S.A? then you are wrong.

Your damn pos Obama even just is intimidating Youtube to censor that video. Your Obama apologized to the Islamic terrorists. In contrast Romney gave a great response and criticized Obama for it's response. So tell me again how your Obama is the same as Romney. Romney chose Ryan and Obama chose biden.

I have a solution . it's in my page and on my tagline. too much government ( laws ) are the problem so put an expiration date on them of 4 years. Problem is no one will listen to me because on one can't understand this simple concept.

Your Obama is even intimidating youtube so they censor that video that criticizes Islam:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2930997/posts?page=4

Your Obama passed the dream Act Amnesty for illegals. Presidents can't do this but it did it anyway. You say Romney and Obama are the same but Romney won't violate the law like that .Obama is the same as Chavez or Stalin not Romney.

Romney gave a great response to this Islamic attack on 9/11., the 2nd 9/11 , but Obama instead apologizes to Muslims and had no security ( no bullets etc) . Blood is on your Obama’s hands. the media hides this but instead bashes Romney. you and the media agree that it's Romney which is the problem. wtf?

Your Obama piled on 6 trillion $ more in debt on the U.S.A ensuring its collapse.

Obama is an enemy of America Romney isn't . no one will be perfect but we have to vote out obama . your solution is bash Republicans which will keep Obama in power and so Obama can keep issuing its executive orders, censoring youtube, giving amnesty to illegals, blowing up the debt, and a million other crimes. and your response to Obama’s crime Is bash Republicans, bash Romney. give me a break you are democrats.

This CR funded Obamacare.

Pelosi, Reid, and Obama built this socialist vehicle, and now Romney Republicans are paying the payments and putting gas in the tank.

Wake up, people.
