I am to the right of the Tea Party Republican marker :)Consider it a badge of honor. I was a silly millimeter from falling off the right end of the spectrum.
No surprise...I'm taking the day off on 10/12 to see Atlas Shrugged, Part II. The trailer is awesome.

Me too. I suspect my answer on gay/lesbian marriage kept me from scoring. My feeling is that marriage is defined in the Bible, not by government. According to the Bible, gays and lesbians are an abomination before God, so I’m guessing marriage is not even an option for them there.
The government has no business defining marriage of any sort, not their job. They stuck their nose in by issuing marriage licenses which were nothing more than another tax on citizens for the privilege of recording marriages for posterity and historical purposes. In typical government fashion, they expanded that to mean they can dictate what marriage is and whom may be married.
So, the question asks legal marriage. Since I see no right of the government to define legal marriage, then my answer is no. And since biblical marriage is off the table, then I guess the gays/lesbians are out of luck.
Heck, let them get married. I don’t care. Then they can become divorce statistics like heterosexual couples. Lawyers will love them, the new cash cows of the divorce courts.

Almost but not quite conservative republican. The question that always throws me is about gay marriage. I believe if two people of the same sex want to marry in a religion that allows for that marriage, that's between them and their religion. As marriage was/is originally a religious institution, I don't think the gubmit has any more right to specify who can marry anymore than who can/should be baptized, bar-mitzvahed or ordained. Just my .02

A marriage could be legal (i.e. sanctioned within a given religion), but the government should have nothing to say about it. Civil unions is something the government may want to regulate, but that is a wholly different matter.

Pew would be wise to add another category, marked at the very right edge of the spectrum:

I thought I was being very moderate and not hitting the “strongly” buttons, but I’m half way between Tea Party and the end of the world.
