In an interview that aired Friday morning, Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney told "Good Morning America" that the definition of middle income in America is "$200,000 to $250,000 or less."
Romney's answer is a bit confusing, because 200,000 is included in the universe of numbers less than 250,000. If you take the statement at face value, however, it appears that Romney is using the same upper limit as President Barack Obama when it comes to middle-income earners. Obama's proposed tax hike for the richest Americans begins with taxable income over $250,000.

I’d define the middle class from $75K to $400K, with the upper limit very location dependent. Does see how anyone stays afloat these days who makes less than $75K.

Middle class is a pretty subjective term. I’ve known people who made a half million dollars and chose to live in ancient house trailers and dove old beater pickup trucks.
Between $40 and $50 grand for a single person is what I consider to be middle class depending on things like location and lifestyle.
They have both parents working, kids go to subsidized day care with free meals, food stamps, subsidized housing, mortgage forgiveness and lots of coupons.
It all depends on many factors. A single guy renting an apartment for $800 per month making 75k does very well. A family with a $2,000 mortgage plus private school or daycare, 2 car payments, a 30 mile one way commute, and a $75k household income is indeed struggling mightily. How well one is doing has almost as much to do with expenses than with income.
I considered myself “middle class” when I made $30K (in the ‘90s). I think it’s more a state of mind than a defined income range, as well as how you manage your income.
I’m beginning to wonder how Mitt Romney ever even held down a middle class or better job himself given his difficulty in putting a clear sentence together.

Better yet, I guess that theory could be used to explain why BO has never held a real job.
Yeah I was comfortable enough at around $30,000 in the mid 90s. I’ve always been pretty frugal anyway.
Now let’s look at what Romney actually said, in an interview with “GMA” host George Stephanopoulos:
Stephanopoulos: Is $100,000 middle income?
Romney: No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000 and less.
Peoples leaves out the words “and less,” making it sound as if “$200,000 to $250,000” is the range Romney considers “middle income” when in fact it is the upper limit.
Oh, and how does President Obama answer the question? Peoples again: “President Barack Obama has defined ‘middle class’ as income up to $250,000 a year.”
So Romney’s definition of “middle income” is identical to Obama’s definition of “middle class.” One may quibble over where to draw the line, and we’d question the premises behind the whole line-drawing exercise, but here the AP misrepresents the facts in order to score a partisan point against Romney.

Very astute! Location has everything to do with how far your money goes. Live in a liberal state - you need a lot more money to buy the same as you could buy in a low-tax, low-regulation state!

The so called 'middle class' is a highly subjective term that means almost nothing. Most people assume that once they obtain permanent employment, and own a home, that they have become part of the middle class. Many that can pay rent comfortably, and have a good job also consider themselves part of the 'middle class.'
BUT - this idiotic administration is deliberately tearing down the middle class - desperately trying to create a second Soviet Empire - where there are only two classes, the slave class, and their slave masters.
Romney speaks just fine. Not sure why you make such a strange statement. For all his RINO faults public speaking isn’t one of them. He is as slick as a used car salesman and even kind of looks like one. :-)
